Lagoon Discussion Thread
linearinduction replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Lagoon doesn't seem to prioritize having things ready for opening weekend, but I still don't think it's impossible. While these trains aren't even ready for testing, word is that another train was in a much more complete state in a different pavilion a few weeks ago. They could have been testing with that train already. When I went to the park they had lifts up to the western turn of Roller Coaster and 2 guys up there walking back and forth checking out the track. That doesn't mean much, but I think there is a possibility it could run opening weekend with one train. It is of course also possible that it won't be running for months. With Lagoon nobody (who's willing to say so) knows. I would disagree that Lagoon doesn't try to have new rides open on opening day. Since I've attended opening days for 21 years now, Rocket Catapult, Spider, Dragonfly, Kontiki, Bat, Dino Drop, Lady Bug Bop, OdySea, Jumping Dragon, and BomBora were all open and operating on Opening Day. Wild Mouse, Red Rock Rally, and Tipsey Tea Cups were held up in Customs longer than expected, and thus all opened 3 weeks later. Air Race was Zamperla's fault, due to the fact they neglected to schedule one of their electricians to commission the ride for Lagoon's Opening weekend. Wicked had weldment issues on the columns and had to be disassembled more than twice, re-manufactured, re-painted, and re-assembled, and Cannibal was due to it being a one of a kind ride and Lagoon being a first time ride manufacturer. Not sure about Flying Tigers and Ruka Safari, but being from Zamperla, it was probably customs again. From a mechanical stand point, in regards to new trains, it's like it's a new ride, as Millennium Flyers are not a straight across vehicle replacement from the same manufacturer. Everything from brakes, lift speed, etc. has to be calibrated and programmed from nothing. The only programming that might remain the same is the whole transfer sequence. Once someone witnesses one of the new trains operating, I would imagine it could take up to 4 weeks before it passes the Maintenance and S&S Inspections and is handed over to the operations department for training, and then maybe up to 2 more weeks until it opens to the public. As far as I ever heard, from multiple sources, and this goes back at least a year, if not 2, there was never any deviation from them being Millennium Flyers. Considering Lagoon was their first refurb project in the company's history, I wouldn't be surprised they built Lagoon MFs with Headrests and no seatbelts. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

They've been there for a while, so I've heard. The revamped station has always been talked about in regards to new trains as well. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

Crowd levels on opening day depend totally on the weather. When it was in the 70s on opening day a couple years ago, the crowds we're so big the park stayed open an extra hour and Season Pass Processing went on an additional hour after park closing. If I remember correctly, the park processed more than 5,000 passes that day alone. Costco will have the best GAD Ticket Price, as always, so you can save at least 20% that way. Agreed, a Eurofighter doesn't make much sense for the park, especially since Wicked is basically a launched Eurofighter. As much as I'd love to see a B&M hyper or invert at Lagoon, it's probably not in the budget. But something like a Chance Hyper GT-X would be perfect for Lagoon as the park really doesn't have any airtime coasters. The last official statement by the park was $26 Million had been spent on Cannibal as of August/September 2015. That was before modifications were made to the columns to further stabilize the Inverted Loop, and the additions of Hydraulic Rams for the lift platforms at the base of the tower this year, as well as a laundry list of other tweaks made the winter of 2015/2016. Lagoon obviously didn't want a Eurofighter to begin with, as they were not able to control as much of the engineering as they could with ZIERER and Wicked, and we all know how well the Track and those Columns turned out. That is why Lagoon Designed, Engineered, and essentially Manufactured BomBora and Cannibal. They were able to use firms they trust, like ART Engineering GmbH for their Engineering Services, Intermountain Lift, Inc. for Track Fabrication, Peterson Incorporated for Columns, etc. Why pay someone else when you have the staff that are equally qualified? If they build a "Primordial" themed coaster it would be nice to have a food stand next to it that serves soup. This would be Awesome!!!!! Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

I apologize, When I said Employee, I meant Ride-Op working Jet Star 2. No one made you ride Jet Star 2 now did they? lol I believe I rode it with Guy, if I remember correctly. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk Yes. Thank you Sid for taking that bullet for me. You are a gentleman and a scholar. Oh, It looks like I have a gig there in SLC at the end of the summer next year. I will be looking to spend a couple of extra days to head out to Lagoon again. This pleases me greatly. Just give me a couple weeks warning, I mean notice. GCII's Millennium Flyers are trailered and articulated, meaning they can make much tighter turns than the existing 3 Bench PTC Cars. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

Now, if only Lagoon had been working closely, for nearly 10 years, with a train manufacturer....one that had manufactured new bogies for Wicked and Spider, and supplied trains for the steepest roller coaster in North America. Hmmm. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

I think he was only talking about Jetstar 2 where you can't be a single rider in any row. I remember back in the day when the employees were constantly hitching rides on the back of my Speedway and Dracula's castle cars. Yeah, I took Linearinductions advice and went straight to Jet Star 2, But I didn't have a riding buddy* so The male employee sat down and I sat in front of him. Seriously, What is with the Single Rider policy at that park? * I did have a buddy but their back was screwed up from a bad coaster, Can still do dark rides/Pirates/Radiator Springs Racers/ Etc. There were two deadly incidents in 1989 with single riders in the back row. There are still questions as to what exactly happened on Roller Coaster, that will never be known. Had their been another person in that row, things may have turned out differently or at least that person could act as a witness. Single Riders in Back or Front Rows has happened elsewhere as well. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

You can bring in food and beer (If your into that) You can't ride any train coaster in the front or last row You can't ride Jet Star if your a single rider. If you ask, An Employee will ride with you In extremely rare situations will an attendant ride with a guest. Otherwise, they usually ask for a Single Rider or have the Single Rider in the Front Row switch with row 2 if there are 2 riders there. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

Samurai will be closed until the required maintenance has been completed. The only other time Samurai has been closed this long was 10 years ago when the gearbox failed and required a lengthy rebuild, but it was back up operating on opening day 2008. I would imagine it will be open on opening day 2018 at the latest. It's just a shame that it has had to be neutered and is just a shadow of it's former self from the year and couple of years after it opened. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

Intamin Rapids Ride
linearinduction replied to thangtamfive's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Rattlesnake Rapids at Lagoon, designed and engineered in-house, with Intamin providing the Hardware, has three 275HP Pumps capable of pumping 106,000 Gallons per minute each. The ride can operate with just 2 pumps, if need be, and still maintain the proper flow rate. The wetness really depends on the water features and weight of the riders in the raft, and the flow rate of the waterfalls. Some of the larger Weirs in the trough have been replaced with smaller ones to make the rapids a little less "rough." Heavier Rafts will produce a bigger wave over the Weirs. That was at least the second to be recorded, as I believe there have been 3 total caught on video. Also, the only time it really rolls back (Launch Abort) is when the Train ahead doesn't clear the Safety Brake in time. Then it's just a quick system reset and they cycle the trains each once after and it's good. Maybe 10 minutes for it all and it's back to regular operation. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

I had tried to avoid any actual designation as to what kind of launch it was, though I agree with your assessment, because I'm not sure I've seen it described anywhere, and this project still feels SO fluid at this point. ^I'm right there with you! If they can pull this off, it will be pretty awesome! Regarding Wicked at Lagoon, that is an example of a vertical launch, but on a much smaller scale than what it appears will be on this... Still, valid question for our Lagoon aficionados... What is the reliability/downtime like on Wicked? The only real down time Wicked has is when an LSM Stator Fails. It's usually back up the next day after it's been replaced. This happened on the Launch Tower the other week as a matter of fact. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

I loved the Cedar Point Shirt with Raptor, Wicked Twister, Maverick, Corkscrew, Magnum, Millennium Force, Mantis, and Maverick on it. -
Hey Guy! You are not an idiot in the slightest, contrary to what you may want people to believe at times. lol Lagoon's is a Park Model, and even those then were built on basically a Trailer Chassis that is not a Trailer, as a Base. I think that changed with Everland's Top Scan and may be a Permanent Mount, opposed to Park Model, as it has a concrete platform as well. Knott's Top Scan is the first higher capacity version (36 vs. 30) and what is bolted to the Windseeker Footing/Foundation is pretty much what looks like the same part on Samurai that the boom mounts to, but on the Trailer-ish Chassis Base. Can't wait to hear the DC Motor (At least I hope it's a DC not AC) on this Larger Model.

The one at CW is the only park model operating. All the other modals are for fairs and carnivals. I've ridden the fair versions which of course like any other fair ride, out out control, the carnies just have no regard for g-forces and I love everything about it. lol I've heard the CW ride is slightly intense but not as intense as how the carnies run them. Samurai at Lagoon says "hi", and it was the first Park Model in North America, even though they are on a Chassis. Climate and Motor Type effect Operation, and Lagoon's AC Motors on their Mondial Rides are a problem in the Climate it's in. The Gear Box failed in just 7 years and took it out for a Season from June on. Samurai is still a fun ride, but not as crazy as it used to be. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

The park map I have states it'll have a 95cm height requirement. Maybe it's a Zamperla then, but the Lapbars look like ZIERER to me. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

Looks like they went with a ZIERER Flying Fish with individual lapbars, which should give it no minimum height requirement. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
