  1. No one knows, that's all we know. Six Flags HAS begun collecting insurance money on the park (as of June 2006) and will definitely collect $32.5 million, which was the estimated cost of damaged assets. In addition to that, they have already collected business interruption. Screamscape has some recent pics of the park and it looks no different than when I last took a good look at it in January. I find it interesting that Coke cans here have "CELEBRATE SIX FLAGS' 45th ANNIVERSARY" written on them though. Why are they still marketing in a market they want to get out of and do they really expect marketing on cans will get people interested in driving around 500 miles away?
  2. I can't imagine what will become of anything that can be salvaged. The park is going to be tied up in legal limbo for years. Anything that can be saved will just further deteriorate in that time. Six Flags will be battling their insurance company and the city might possibly be battling Six Flags. If the city and Six Flags do reach an agreement anytime soon, maybe we will then begin to know what will happen in terms of demolition or sale of rides in the park. If they do not reach an agreement, then I believe this will be a seriously long-time ordeal and there won't be a pretty picture of a reopening park at the end (either way, it's not going to happen). The saying "You can't get blood from a turnip" best describes both the situation of Six Flags and the City of New Orleans. The only glimmer of hope on paper is that the city would like the park to reopen. But when you visit the area in person, it really doesn't seem to matter what they hope for. I don't know if I've shown this before or if anyone has seen it, but this is probably one of the best pictures of the park in its entirety during the flood www.katrinadestruction.com/images/d/12810-2/six+flags+photo
  3. Surprised no one mentioned Tennessee Tornado. That thing has so much speed when it hits that short brake run... It was violent enough running just one train (the computer allows it to enter the station much faster since it obviously does not have to stop). I can't imagine how it feels running two trains! I've heard it described as an automobile accident when running two. It's such a good ride though.
  4. As calcajun said, there has been no action yet. Passed by the park yesterday and it really didn't look any different from when I last passed by January. In addition to that, just about all the vegetation is dead. Almost nothing is green in the swamps around New Orleans East. No animals, no movement, just nothing. The saltwater destroyed everything. People look at all the damages the storm did to man-made things, but it really took a toll on nature. I've heard it will take over two years for the rain to wash the salt away to a point where vegetation can grow normally again.
  5. By the way. She's the one responsible for getting all the voting machines out to the polls
  6. I think I have the worst one yet. Have to find it. I'll post a pic soon. It's really bad...
  7. LOL she's so "goofy" She was the one who was out on the lam from the police for failing to comply over another issue concerning her position of Clerk of New Orleans City Court. Just the cream of the crop to pick from in the New Orleans mayoral election...
  8. Batman clones average?! Well I guess they are hard to get excited about if you have ridden one before at another park. I've been on a few and still think they are one of the most intense rides I've been on. *Ducks* I really didn't think Montu was as intense (especially since it had speed chopped off of it like crazy when I rode it) *Dives* Now Fire Dragon definitely is up neck and neck with Batman the ride with me. The immelman and hop are very unique to it. However I still have trouble thinking it's as intense since it's not as rapid fire/inversion after inversion as Batman. Though that immelman nearly makes up for it. It really boils down to personal preference over the size of the inversions really I think. I much prefer tighter loops and compact layouts than the spread out layout and large inversions of inverts like Montu. Not B&M here, but I also wasn't impressed by Deja Vu (and I was so excited about it too; maybe that's why it let me down, got too excited about it. Maybe I was just too overjoyed that it was actually running.)
  9. That's not a very nice thing to say. I happen to think the Birmingham area is very nice (though not the park's immediate area, Bessemer).
  10. Bad title! It scared me, lol. I was thinking: Miracle Strip, SFNO, SFAW, Libertyland and now Visionland?! Oh name change, phew. Don't do that to me!
  11. This is old... very old.
  12. Yeah that was pretty much a given. If anyone did not hear. SFNO's old general manager, Terry Prather, is now at SFA.
  13. One of the reasons it uses those terrible restraints is because it has some very low clearances. Without the bulky restraint, it may be possible for someone to reach out and hit a support.
  14. I believe they do own that triangular piece of property north of the access road. However, with houses so close by, I doubt they could successfully build any major rides near there due to the noise. Also bordering the back parking lot by the waterpark is some high voltage powerlines. So I doubt they could expand much that way.
  15. Lets just say it's something that's been going around in the rumor mill. They have been doing very well (in one article, a spokesperson said that their attendance has been growing exponentially over the last few years). This year they will have MSAP's O2 combo S&S tower named Hot Shot and a Proslide Tornado called Azooka complete with conveyor belt. I would definitely expect to see further growth. Also, with SFNO out of the way for a season, they have no where else to go but up. If you ever visit, don't miss the world's tallest racing slide they have there!
  16. Six Flags manages and leases SFMW. The city actually owns it. I believe SF has until 2008 to decide whether they want to purchase it or not. If they don't, the city will look for another potential buyer.
  17. With the current management, I think your best bet to keep the coaster count up is for SFMW to keep Zonga.
  18. Well this is just what I think. I mean the park could have every intention on keeping it. But if industry-wide trends mean anything, chaos rides are on the way out.
  19. Yes and the portable versions have serious issues with the restraints (like people falling out...). The chaos rides have been removed from Six Flags parks. I believe Cedar Point's is modified quite a bit. I'm sure it's just a matter of time for it to be removed though.
  20. I'm pretty sure they have discontinued their chaos. Even if they did, who would buy one with all the problems they have, and the trend parks have begun with removing them.
  21. This is pretty old news. It's been like that for quite some time. However, there has been some word that there are plans for the ride to reopen this season. Some have claimed they've even seen it doing test runs in recent weeks.
  22. Too bad "he" is a 17 year old high school student.
  23. If only the internet could send smells. There's definitely been a lot of interesting smells out there. From lovely rotting food in the fridge to flooded out homes emitting foul odors, Katrina has opened my nostrils to all sorts of things I could never imagine. Thanks a lot.
  24. Sounds like the only place BTR is going is Willy Nagin's Chocolate Land according to what the lease agreement says. It claims that the city of New Orleans becomes title to and owns all attractions put into the park using Six Flags' resources. Some other parks/property that are leased (at least partially)... Enchanted Village/Wild Waves La Ronde Six Flags Mexico Wyandot Lake (lease is currently expired and I don't think Six Flags has chosen to renew it yet, they have until 2008 to decide) Six Flags Marine World (lease is currently expired and Six Flags has to make a decision whether to buy it or not by 2010. It sounds unlikely that the city will renew the lease as they want to unload the park.) Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom (over half of the land is leased from the fairgrounds) Some of the European parks were also leased, so they can obviously transfer the lease.
