  1. It wasn't a rumor. It was in planning stages. I saw some of the blueprints in the maint office.
  2. Channel 6 is doing a series of reports called lost landmarks. Tonight they did their first one on SFNO. I figured as usual we would not hear anything new. They said the usual stuff about SFI locked into a tight lease contract and the city will hold SFI to it and like many others they are in a legal battle with Insurers to get paid off. Well, that means nothing cause SFI does not want it and they certainly will buy out or whatever necessary to get out of it. Something that was eluded to about 6 months ago was finally revealed in this report. "Local buissiness leaders are looking into buying out SFNO and putting in a waterpark" But don't expect an announcement ANYTIME SOON. Thats it. Guess this will be on the channel 6 website by tomorow.
  3. I keep looking around now and then cause i know an official report will pop up somewhere. Have not seen one yet.
  4. There is way more to it than shown in the photos. There is a large home and garden section. Another featuring artist and art then another section with random vendors selling all kinds of stuff and of course livestock.
  5. Awesome! Why did i ever move away from SD?!?! So if you return to the fair, i bet Hydro Slide water won't be so clean and clear. Maybe a good thing you didn't try the funnel cake. The sign said "Mexican Funnel Cake". Not sure realy what that is but instead of powdered sugar they probably put guacomle on it.
  6. Even as a spectator you use to have to worry about getting hit by falling tires. Those have been removed so no need to worry about that anymore. Then a cable broke. Luckily it didn't hit someone in the neck and rip their head off. Then a cable frayed and pieces of metal penetrated some riders. Now it's just a cable to be scared of. Don't be scared, just ride it.
  7. Employees take photos of themselves and friends at work and behind the scenes all the time. Thats fine for your personal use but they may not be put on public display. Just the way it is.
  8. Teen sues Kings Island for his own stupidity.
  9. This is after the midway cleared and cleaned to get in and start inspections.
  10. Actually there is one. It was aparently released for a news segment done when the GM of SFNO went to SFA. I need to find it and post it here. Of course the photo i post is mine, but it is cropped down to only show what the other news article photo showed.
  11. No, I would have to get SFI's permission to publicly display them online and of course they will not . I generally show them to some folks at special coaster events. If you ever see me at one, I would be happy to show them to you.
  12. I don't get it. How can you not just say sorry for the inconvenience while handing you an exit pass as you leave. I always had tons of exit passes in my pocket to give out to an unhappy or inconveienced guest. SHRUG
  13. Well yes, I have even had trouble due to the buckle being so far down to the side, even though when buckled i had so much slack. Sure an attendant can help with that. My comment is about not helping by pushing or pulling by force to MAKE a restraint fit. I have buckled a few seatbelts for riders having trouble but would never pull the belt down on them to make it reach and connect. Some people just have no clue and you either have to stand there and tell them what to do or do it for them. I was just trying to point out why parks have the no help rule.
  14. I have seen and felt the cables before they were installed on a drop ride. To most of us they look quite small and harmless when they are on a ride. They appear this way because all parts of the ride are very big and heavy. The cables then seem very small and light. They are not. They are big and extremely heavy. Thats why from what witnesses said, i figured the cable came down hitting her somewhere at her ankles or feet and just ripped them off. For those who don't think this can happen, all you have to do is search the internet and you will find that people in car accidents and other types of accidents do get dismembered and decapitated. I could post a link to a video that shows this actually happening to a person but it is not something that we really want to see. If you realy want to see it these videos are easily found all over the internet. I am just saying this cause lots of people here just don't see how this can happen. It does. When the investigations are complete we will hear in great detail what exactly happened. Just a matter of time.
  15. If some say they can't help and others do, then the procedure most likely is that they are not allowed to help someone with restraints. First problem with that is, consistency in training is not there. All the attendants should be following the same exact procedure. As many of you have witnessed, an OTSR being smashed into someone to try to get the first click to catch. Same goes with trying to pull a seatbelt in that manner to connect it. The most important reason attendants are not allowed to help are as follows. This goes for any restraint be it OTSR, Seatbelt, Clamshell, Lapbar ect. If you have to force it to get it to lock, you DO NOT fit the restraint properly. It is then possible it won't secure you in the right manner. Even though you or the rider think they are in very tight. The possibility of injury while forcing a restraint down on a rider or during the ride cycle with a forced restraint. Yes, you can injure bones and organs while you are forcing a restraint down on someone. Thats it. Simple straightforward. Now as for the difference in lap belt length, thats a whole different issue which technically should not be that way. The whole point of having a set length is for the specification of the restraint to do it's job properly. If one is shorter than it's spec than it is ok.Those that are longer are not within the specification they were designed to restrain a passenger properly. Keep in mind i am not talking about the different length between the lower and higher stadium seats. I am talking about two same exact seats but each has a belt with one or more inch difference. They should all be the exact same length. Parks don't put different lengths to accommodate different size people. The only time this happens is when the seat and restraint are designed specifically for this when the train is manufactured. If you say the front seat on left side of superman train is two inches longer, then one of those lapbelts is the incorrect length. They should both be same length. Just thought i would point these things out since most don't realise this.
  16. I have not seen the mythbuster in question but from statements others have made about the show, seems they are testing to see if a cable can "SLICE" through. My common sence from the accident tells me here feet were most likely ripped off. Sure news reports say her feet were severed but i think when the final report comes out they may heve been dismembered by being pulled off. I am so curious to see what the detailed info says in the final report. Of all the drop rides, this particular model is the one i like best. Certainly will feel odd riding one again.
  17. Actually the S&S towers do use cables to move the ride units. The cables are attached to the pistons which pull them up or down. The cables are also exposed.
  18. See waht i was saying about placing blame and everyone trying to prove it was not them? Here is a statement from Intamin posted at ride accidents dot com Which if true certainly would take them out of the blame game so far. Of course that does not necesarily mean the cables have never been changed. Parts could have been bought from another vender but then that leads to the cable spec maybe not being correct Ect. We will certainly hear more on this in the coming days and weeks.
  19. If someone is overseeing parks or not, catastrophic accidents will still happen. Just like they still do at the small traveling fairs.
  20. No doubt, if in fact they replaced the wheels and the ride went faster. Then they slowed the lift. It would then be going as fast as ever. Now if they did not make any modifications except slow the lift, then the ride will certainly be slower. Don't get me wrong. I am not saying it is not a good ride now. I never rode it so when i do, i am sure it will be awesome. I am just saying that it is absolute fact that if the lift is slowed at the point the train disengages from it, it will in fact slow the whole ride down. That is just pure scientific proven fact. Period. I can't wait to ride it though. it still looks awesome. I do feel sorry for all those who have ridden it prior cause i know it will feel less than it was to most.
  21. So why does SFI/Shapiro have to pay out the ying yang? If it is determined a freak accident, meaning all maint and inspections along with scheduled replacement have been done. How can you blame SFI? It could be a defective cable. in that case blame would be put on the manufacturer of the cable. See what i mean? It does not have to automatically be SFI's fault.
  22. But coming off a lift at a slower speed will in fact slow the whole ride down. This is plain old real physics. It is a fact. Stop trying to dispute it. Go see your science or physics teacher.
  23. A slower lift will in fact affect the overall speed of the ride. The only way i can agree that it did not affect the ride is if as the ride broke in, it became faster and was out of specification. Then by slowing the lift it brought the speed and stress down which put it back into spec and how it ran few months ago. Now if you rode it just prior to the change, then rode it again just after the change, there is no way in hell you can say there is no difference. It has been said that you don't get thrown over the top and you don't get whatever somewhere else. That is a big change right there. So there is a change. Anyway, if you slow or speed a lift on any coaster it will affect it's overall speed. That is plain old physics. So most definitely ET has been affected. Good thing i have not ridden it yet, when i do i won't be dissapointed.
  24. What most of you are not thinking is that if the cable snapped, Part of the cable came down with the car. Think about it. The cable is attached to the ride unit as it is being hoisted up. The cable snapped but it is still attached to the ride unit. The ride unit falls with however big piece of cable still attached to it. Yes the cable is above initially but after the snap at some point during the fall it will fall below the ride unit. We will definitely know soon what actually happened it will just take a while to be investigated and then there will be a report.
  25. So why use lighter trains? Oh thats right, the track can't handle the weight and colapses. Nevermind.
