2008 NBA Playoffs: What to look out for in the west
Jew replied to Bolliger&Mabillard's topic in Random, Random, Random
They were consistent...they blew the call right before that gave the Spurs possession in the first place. AND missed the fact Barry traveled to draw the contact from Fisher. So that was the make up non-call to balance it out. -
Did a lap with Elissa, Mike, and KidTums today... X2 was...X. The audio in the station made me want to punch whoever recorded it in the face. VERY annoying IMO. The music was just "ehh...whatever." I liked the talking on the lift. The only part that made any sense was the "goooinnng down." In the back row, you don't get to see the fire...you just feel it. So again, for me, it was "ehh...cool I guess." Fog was either off or completely disappated by the time the back row flies through. I had an outside seat...still pretty rough. I didn't find the new loading process to be that much more efficient...especially since the girl at the "troll" position opened the load gates, which apparently meant the exit gates can't open...so everyone was blocking the back row trying to exit. The crew was doing pretty good....I think we were only in the old unload area for like 30 seconds, if that. Nothing horrible to report about the park, just some minor things. Tatsu was doing OK...2 1/2 to 3 minute dispatches. Still a lot of room for improvement, but not 12 minutes like my last visit! Half of Bunny World was closed when we wanted to take KT on rides (more specifically, the train and weather balloons...two rides KT pointed at) around 5:45-6ish. All the trash cans on the sidewalk in the parking lot were changed when we got there around 4:30, and the bags were all still there next to the cans when we left at 6:30. The biggest downer was the change in policy on the teacups in bunny world: no one over 59 inches can ride. So not even I could take KT on them! I was suprised the girl at the turnstile told me to have a magic day. That's a nice touch. That's about it...back to the Laker game now!

2008 NBA Playoffs: What to look out for in the west

Brent Barry traveled in the only way they actually make the call: Moving your pivot foot. Once you put the ball on the floor, you're free to stroll from halfcourt...as Tim Duncan proved on his dunk in the 2nd quarter. -
Somebody had a deprived childhood... I'm glad the speech went over well. But I'm totally with Elissa. It didn't seem personal at all.

2008 NBA Playoffs: What to look out for in the west

It was definitely a foul. But Barry traveled to draw the contact anyways. He establishes his right foot as his pivot foot then takes another step with it into Fisher before dribbling. And the play that gave the ball back to the Spurs was a bad call too. The shot clock should have been reset for the Lakers, since Fisher's shot grazed the rim. That of course would have meant the Spurs would have had to foul Kobe, rather than Kobe forcing up a quick shot to give the Spurs that last possession... That's what I hate about last second bad calls. The reality is an entire game of bad calls took place before that. Tim Duncan's stroll to the basket for a dunk. Kobe not getting to the line once. Odom's goaltending should have been a foul too. The list goes on and on both ways. I am admittedly bias, but I think that was a good non call given how the whole game was officiated. -
Every park has some sort of medical staff on hand. I would guess that the major parks use EMT's, but some use RN's instead. I'm sure you'll have some luck finding a job somewhere...medical staff at theme parks seem to be a pretty in demand profession.

Castle Park to open Dragon Flyers!
Jew replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wonder where that is going to go? I went about a month ago and all that was there for the flyers was a hole in the ground. No sign of any other ride. But hooray for more credits! -
Hard Rock Park - 05/26/08
Jew replied to westipher97's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So it's memorial day weekend AND the city is hosting a big event, but the park isn't open? Everyone should go get their Hard Rock Park credits ASAP if that is how they are doing business... -
Six Flags Magic Mountain X2 Campout!
Jew replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I really hope they can deliver on that promise. That was one of the big suprise annoucements of WCB: three trains on X and flashpass. They (Jay/Tim/Neal) were pretty enthusiastic about it at WCB, so I hope they can deliver on their promise. Looks like it was a cool event. Glad everyone had fun! -
^$4-5 million for a "MM sized" woodie? Evil Knievel @ SFStl, which is a clone, has a listed price of $7 million. A woodie at magic would be at least $10 mil after you factor in construction cost and the extra wood needed for earthquake retrofitting. Not all roller coasters go into development that far in advance. It just depends on the scale of the project. Buying an "off the shelf" model or a clone that can be placed on flat land doesn't require nearly as much planning...For example, a long standing rumor is that Scream! was really meant for SFoT and Superman: Tower of Power was meant for SFMM, but SF switched them around.

Accident on Wildcat at Cedar Point
Jew replied to Airtime&Gravity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^^For the record, the McDonalds lawsuit was totally legit. While it was the ladies fault for putting the coffee in her lap, McDonalds was purposely making it WAY hotter than it should have been. Asking for a high amount of damages is common practice. Is it legit? That's for a judge/jury to decide. But you always ask high and settle lower. Asking lower allows the offending parties to simply sweep their mistake under the table. I know if *I* was put into a situation where I was injured on a coaster, I would be asking for a lot in damages as well. Afterall, in theory, the accident could take my main hobby away from me...riding roller coasters. It might also affect my ability to work in the amusement park industry (my current career choice) depending on how emotionally scarred I was. Plus any time spent in the hospital/rehab isn't exactly fun. Every lawsuit is unique. It's unfair to discredit any of them based on the dollar amount. Besides...many of these huge awards come as a result of punitive damages anyways. So it's Jurors/Judges blowing things out of proportion. But enough of the off topic discussion... I just hope that this doesn't give Cedar Fair a reason to create even more horrible "safety" policies. -
Accident on Wildcat at Cedar Point

Sue happy? It's not frivolous when there's a legit reason to sue. If Cedar Fair didn't already offer to pay for all the costs related to this, I would sue too! -
Great PTR! We (when TPR last visited in 2006) must have gotten extremely lucky with SFA. It was hassle free and I got all my credits, rerides on the good rides, and didn't encounter and bad/slow employees. Well, Batwing was slow, but we got on like the 2nd or 3rd train of the day, so it wasn't horrible.

The Mummy @ USH.

I heard the park had a rough weekend because of staffing...Guess that is what happens when your "120% staffing level" as they said at WCB is made up of mostly minors! I also heard they are not giving the X2 passes to people who bought/processed passes too early in the season. Not a strong start to summer?

The episode where they all end up in the parks jail is the Itchy and Scratchy Land one. Lisa goes crazy from drinking the water and Bart gets stuck on the "Barrel Roll" ride because he was too short. The Tooth Chipper, along with the Screamatorium and the Yard Work Simulator (which also have posters in the ride) came from the episode where Homer and Bart become carnys.

Great Adventure or Cedar point
Jew replied to Sephiroth77's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't even know how to respond to that. I'm biased for having a HORRIBLE day at Cedar Point? I hate to burst your bubble, but I am not biased at all. Biased for comparing it to Universal and Disney? The trip cost me as much as a trip to Universal or Disney would (actually a lot more if you count my local Universal and Disney parks in So Cal), so from my point of view it is a fair comparison. I flew from LA to Detroit, drove from Detroit to CP, paid for a night at a hotel, etc...only to get 4 credits in 6 hours due to their horrible policies and the employees didn't seem to care. I couldn't even find a supervisor anywhere. Then once the weather cleared up, the only crew hauling ass was Raptor. No other crew was going any better or worse than what I have found at Six Flags Parks. I was also left in the Mantis queue for 45 minutes with no spiel or any employee talking to us as they redid their block check (and got blown off when I called customer service while waiting in line), had to wait 10 minutes with nobody in line to get my pass processed because the girls in there were gossiping, had a food employee who could barely speak english try to charge me $300 for an energy drink and churro...so forgive me if I was less than impressed. Their horrible operations also cost me a trip to Geuga Lake, as I needed to stay that second day to get my credits. In fact, in another cross country trip last season...I went to two Six Flags parks (SFA and SFGADv) and had no problems at all. Got all my credits that were open at both parks, used the child switch program with no hassles, and was even able to enjoy all the big coasters multiple times thanks to Q-bot. So yes, in my experience, SF parks were much better than CP last season. The policies may have changed now, but that visit from last season is/was my only impression of the park. And it was a HORRIBLE visit. -
Great Adventure or Cedar point
Jew replied to Sephiroth77's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Biased? Perhaps it is because many of the members on this site have actually experienced the affects of CP's horrible rain policy/bad operations? I have a negative opinion of Cedar Point because my one and only visit last season (a trip half way across the country) was nearly ruined by the horrible rain policy and slow operations. As ginzo posted, their website still seems to reflect the fact rides do close in rain. There has also been conflicting reports on the matter depending on what TR you read. So I'm hardly convinced the policy has changed. Please do enlighten us with something official from the park before you accuse us all of being bias. -
Great Adventure or Cedar point
Jew replied to Sephiroth77's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So every other park that can somehow manage to keep their rides open in the rain without incident is doing it wrong? -
Since the ride is still in technical rehearsals for the weekend, there is really no definite answer to that question. So far they have been soft opening the ride every day, but that doesn't mean they will on Sunday. If you really want to ride, I would suggest hanging out by the ride and asking the crew members.

Horrible Park Operations
Jew replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You're not the only one Rich. I had absolutely no problems at all when we were out there for the TPR meet. I remember asking Robb and Elissa "I thought this place had a bad reputation?" The only damper was pass processing was a little slow, but inside the park everything was fine. As for me... Two really stand out: Cedar Points awful rain policy and Fuji-Q in general. In 6 hours, we were able to get 3 credits thanks to the horrible rain policy. At Fuji-Q, even the kiddy coaster was a 45 minute wait. Expedition GeForce was pretty bad when we went in 2005. One train and taking their sweet ass time. Tatsu is close behind, since I don't think I have EVER seen anything less than a 5 minute dispatch. But that doesn't bother me as much because I barely go on the rides at SFMM anymore.
