Knott's Scary Farm Scare School 2014
Jew replied to ILoveRides's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would have loved to have heard Ted talk about the history of Haunt. He's a great guy who is very passionate about Haunt! -
She's so cool, she was to cool to stop to say hi to my VIP group. Asked the tour guide if we/I'd get some meet and greet with the park's manager. She pointed out that we walked right past her. First time I go to SFMM I got snubbed by batman (no high five). On a VIP tour get snubbed by park's president. Classic SFMM it seems. Uhm...I don't really think there is a VIP tour at ANY park that involves a meet & greet with a park president/GM. I very much dislike SFMM, but the "ice queen" nickname is seriously one of the dumbest things that has come across this thread. Also, Tim Burkhart is VP of Maintenance and Construction for all of Six Flags now.

Walt Disney World Epcot Discussion Thread

I don't recall any outrage when they added the Three Cabelleros to the beaner boat ride... -
It will be packed. Get there early and take advantage of the early opening to head towards the backlot mazes at 6:30 and you can at least knock out a couple mazes before the lines fill up. The last thing USH needs is another ride with a height requirement. There's already not much to do for kids under 40".

Amusement Today Golden Ticket Awards 2014
Jew replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As Larry stated, AT has been trying harder to include more well traveled enthusiasts in the voting. For a long time, it was skewered by the fact that international coaster trips rarely happened prior to TPR making them a yearly tradition accessible to all (Robb and Elissa really were the trailblazers in that regard). Before that, most enthusiasts did trips/event within their regions---and since Amusement Today is based in the U.S., they had to turn to ACE to provide the "experts." Which in turn skews the data to whatever parks held the best events. The results are still very FAR from perfect, but they are at least starting to get a little bit better. Europa has a solid argument for being the best park, something that would never even be possible just 5 years ago... -
I'm really glad to read that. I really hope they are able to keep their word on this and planned accordingly. It's all good intentions until the trains are due for their annuals and the budget for parts/labor isn't there because the cycle shop is already stretched thin maintaining all the other trains...

It's alive! I suppose with this years college football season underway I should finally get around to doing my next PTR: the Las Vegas Bowl. Say what you will about USC, but despite the worst NCAA sanctions ever and a revolving door of head coaches last season...they still never finished below .500. Last season culminated with a dominating performance in the Las Vegas Bowl, which is conveniently just a 4 hour drive from LA... The stadium itself is very bare minimum. Probably all UNLV needs, but really the best way to describe it is an overgrown high school stadium. There's nothing special about it at all. Soon I should also have a report from an Angel's game last season as well. Just have to get those photos off my old phone. Welcome to Sam Boyd Stadium....located about 20 minutes away from the strip For the Vegas Bowl, across the street in a park they had all the sponsors set up trying to sell you stuff...it wasn't that exciting. Here's what the concourses look like. Very minimal. Almost like an overgrown high school stadium. The locker rooms...again, very bare minimum. The scoreboard. Very crappy video board. Good thing all I needed to see was the final score! The tent below was set up as "on field suites." No bowl game would be complete without giant American flag and a flyover (since the stadium is close to Nellis AFB) An overview of most of the stadium. Press box/suites on one side only.

Ok? The fact that the park was discounting their premium level pass to $70 is a pretty telling sign as to the quality of the product. They're not even trying to pretend they are a high quality amusement park. $70 for a gold pass is basically them saying "we know our product sucks, but we also know you guys who visit us don't give a sh*t and just want to ride coasters."

Leaking it would have cost them their jobs and gained them a lawsuit from Six Flags. Many people have known about the ride for almost year...but they also enjoy their professional relationships and jobs so they know better than to blab about it. Or at the very least only blab to people they can trust to keep it quiet!

I was in town for the sole purpose of going to the opening, but ended up not making it to SLS...only in Vegas! I did see the fireworks though! Protip: the stratosphere lounge happy hour is pretty good...2-1 on all their specialty cocktails. And no need to pay admission to go up!

Universal held the theme park rights for Star Trek at one point. It was an attraction at USH. *IF* that's the route they wanted to go, I don't think it would be "huge money." Having a theme park attraction is advertising no amount of money can buy, so it would be equally beneficial for Paramount to allow Universal to build a Star Trek attraction for a smaller fee (actors/producer residuals) just to get the exposure.
