Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
hoppedup replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Beautiful day at the park today. Except Diamondback went down when we would have been on the next train. All three trains are off and there appears to be no activity over there. Video screen out front reporting it down for the day. Daughter is a bit bummed to miss it, but we are having a great day otherwise. We did the tower and there are some footers poured for the new coaster. Full TR next week. -
We'll save T3 for last then. It's funny that we used to have season passes to our local water park, Wet 'n' Wild Emerald Pointe, but have not visited the water parks at any of the 15 parks we've visited in the last two years that have them. HW and KK are the appetizers. Kings Island will be the main course Saturday. Then Cedar Point will be dessert on Sunday.

Nice report! I thought Dorney was great. I wouldn't be mad if it was my home park. Though I wouldn't trade it for my current one. -
Looking forward to visiting KK tomorrow. We will spend the morning at Holiday World and afternoon/evening at KK. We only care about coasters. From what I've been reading we shouldn't have any problems getting multiple rides. We have no issue skipping T3 or riding it last if it's one of the more painful SLCs. I've only done the one at SFNE and apparently it is the best of the bunch. And yes, we took advantage of the out-of state deal.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I would personally aim for Sunday. At KI, FL+ even on a Saturday will be great. Enjoy minimal waits. That's what I'm going to do. Right now plan is half-day at KK Friday, then go to KI for night rides. Saturday, half-day at KI with FL+, drive to CP for evening. CP early entry and full day Sunday, with FL+ if needed. This long weekend is designed to take the "death march" feel out of an August trip that was to include KI and CP, but will now just be Kennywood, Waldameer, Darien Lake, Niagara Falls, and Great Escape. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

This is great news if it keeps up. I will be there sometime in the next week, most likely Friday or Sunday. Which brings me to a question. I have a platinum pass and have no qualms buying FL+. So which is the better day? I assume Sunday would be a bit less crowded. My only visit to CP was on a Wednesday/Thursday after all the schools in the area were back in session. This trip will most likely be KK>KI>CP but could also easily be CP>KI>KK. I bought KI FL+ on the President's Day sale and assume it would be best used on Saturday. That first visit to CP I rode all the adult coasters in one day. Then did laps on Maverick and Millennium Force during early entry the next day. AFAIK, Steel Vengeance did not open at the start of early entry either of those days last year, FWIW. It may have opened at some point during early entry, but I had moved on to the best two coasters in the park. -

That document says "SOIL BOINGS". It is clearly going to be a spring-powered bouncy ride Actually, it also says "mark the entire sky coaster location" -

TPR 2018 Coaster Poll Results!
hoppedup replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Having ridden them both in the last few months, I have to agree. Mindbender is my favorite Schwarzkopf I've ridden so far. I rode Golden Loop in the early 80s when it was White Lightnin' at Carowinds. I don't remember it being that special, but that was 35+ years ago. -
TPR 2018 Coaster Poll Results!
hoppedup replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm pretty sure it was #13 overall last time as well. Which is surprising considering it is in virtually every top 5 or 10 list I see here on TPR. Maybe it's just fresh in my memory, but I'd put Twisted Cyclone just behind Iron Rattler as my 2nd favorite RMC. Twisted Timbers would be last on that list, after Steel Vengeance, Wicked Cyclone, and New Texas Giant. And yes, Twisted Timbers is still really awesome, but #3? -

Help with Canadian coaster trip.

As someone who spent a lot of time in Québec in my late teens to early twenties (and was a French major in college), I found the system of cursing in Québec to be very interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_French_profanity Pretty much anything to do with the Catholic church and its sacraments can be a curse word. I would highly recommend a day and a night time view from the terrace of the Chalet du Mont Royal. And climb the steps to St. Joseph's Oratory. (If La Ronde doesn't satisfy your masochism, there is a separate lane for pilgrims to climb the steps on their knees). Last time i was in town, we caught an Expos game, so I have no clue about current hot spots. -

You eluded to it a bit, but this isn't as good a deal with season passes and meal plans already. The only thing you're getting is the overnight camping and a few hours of ERT for $60/person. I wonder if they'd ever thought about a cheaper package for season pass holders to account for the tickets and meals, similar to the break in price for concerts there. I didn't allude to it. I stated it pretty plainly. But the event page said ALL proceeds go to Boy's and Girl's Clubs of America. I'm cool with that. The experience and memories made with my daughter made it worth it. And it is a great deal if you are not a pass holder. Her two friends want to go back next year. I'll probably ask their parents to chip in their $62.50 each next time. The breakfast buffet was actually really good as well: Eggs, bacon, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit. We are going to be using our passes and meal plans at CP, KI, and KD this year. And lots of Carowinds trips, so we will be getting our money's worth. With tickets, parking and food, I spent over $200 to go to Merlefest on Sunday so my daughter could see the Avett Brothers. As long as she is happy, the money doesn't really matter. FWIW, our soda passes didn't work because we used the Campout ticket to get in. We had to go back to the front gate to get our passes scanned both days to get it to work. Weird, because the meal plan worked fine. A minor inconvenience. -

We did the Coaster Campout this weekend. It was a blast. I counted 24 tents, so there were less than 100 people participating. Maybe 30-35 or so people took advantage of Copperhead Strike ERT. So we got many rides without leaving the train. They even encouraged us to get out and try another row without going around. If the row you wanted was occupied, they let us go back through the entry gate instead of going around. The ride ops were in high spirits and dispatches were fast. One girl said she rode it 19 times during ERT. Maybe it was the night ride, the excited crew, or the empty queue, but I had a lot more fun on Copperhead Strike this time. Everyone decided to do the Fury 325 ERT, but all three trains were running, so it was the same experience as the night before. You could stay on and ride as much as you wanted. They started 30 minutes late due to problems with one train, but let us use our Campout wristbands as FL+ until 10:15. Nice gesture, but should have been more, IMO. After 10x Fury rides we decided to do some flats (what???). We did the Gliders, Southern Star (hadn't done this one since its opening season as Frenzoid), and Windseeker. The only downer was that when we arrived Friday, most of the coasters were closed. So we had a late lunch. When we came out of Harmony Hall, Intimidator was testing. We headed over to Fury 325 and they were just reopening the queue. We waited for about 20 minutes before it was shut down due to wind. So we headed over to Copperhead Strike. It was still running, so we queued up. It shut down soon after for problems with one of the trains. Afterburn showed as still running on the app so we headed over there. Shut down again. When the coasters started opening back up around 7:15, it was time to set up camp, so I let my daughter and her friends get in some rides (2x Intimidator, 1x Afterburn) while I set up camp. During CS ERT, the park didn't post security guards until late, so we got to walk around a completely deserted park while taking a break. As platinum pass holders with meal plans, this trip wasn't a great value to my daughter and I, but the cool factor of sleeping in the shadow of Intimidator, and the ERTs, made it a really nice experience. At $250 it really isn't a bad deal as you are essentially getting 8 daily passes, 8 meals, and ERT. The campground is the grassy area between Harmony Hall and the Intimidator gift shop. Night rides are the best rides. Sun going down on Shitehawk The view from our tent It's fun to stay at the... The real YOLO Coaster -
Scorcher looked great. Now do Goliath, please. Park was indeed dead earlier today. I got 7 rides on Twisted Cyclone and single rides on BTR, Goliath, and Mindbender in an hour and a half. Twisted Cyclone was amazing. Compact and relentless. I think elements before a lift hill are nice touches. On every train people clapped and yelled at the station brake. This coaster exceeded my expectations.

Hate to derail this thread, but just wanted to say I am stoked for my first visit to this park next Tuesday. I don't really care about Sky Rocket II clones, but will be happy if Tigris takes people away from the other coasters' queues. We may be doing two days at BGT. I can't imagine we'll need a full day at SWO, as we really only care about coasters. If we get coastered out, we may check out some animal stuff, though. Back on topic, we have four different Choice hotels lined up for our four nights in Tampa/Orlando area thanks to the heads up from TPR's resident troll, coasterbill.

SFOG this Saturday. Followed by Fun Spot Atlanta, BGT, Fun Spot Kissimmee, SWO, Fun Spot Orlando, ???, and Carowinds 26th & 27th. -
Nice report! Looks like our decision to do Texas the week before Christmas was the right one. We had mid-60s all week. I had a different experience with Titan. I thought it was great and would loved to have had less trim. I hope you get on Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast in part 2. It was a unique and very fun coaster. I also have yet to ride a Schwarzkopf that I didn't like. If only Arrow loopers aged like that.
