Paramount parks up for sale.

King's Island/King's Dominion both look the same @ 5 am! Ooops pardon my error. IJ was overhyped, it's too short, and the effects suck. -
Paramount parks up for sale.
Cdn Mndbndr replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If memory serves me, I actually remember hearing that CBS, was looking to sell it's theme park division, many months ago. After hearing a couple days ago, that CBS (UPN 38??) and Warner Brothers (WB 11??) were partnering/merging, to form a new network it makes me wonder? Does one thing have anything to do with the other? Maybe CBS is selling the parks to position itself better in case the new network fails. All I know, is that with new owners, Canada's Wonderland will maybe see some more investment in decent rides at the park. The last 2 rides we have received have sucked ass big time. (IJ and Tomb raider) As far as IJ being built at Kings Island, it does say in the article posted by Shari: "The company says the parks will operate normally while a sale is negotiated. " To me that would mean that IJ, will still be built. -

Actually, according to RCDB, Bullet closed 9/25/05, and Magnum is still listed as operating. However if it's being advertised as for sale, then sadly it's days are probably numbered also. http://www.rcdb.com/pd276.htm I have only one question: Why is everybody so anxious to get rid of their Schwarzkopf's? :? -
The Mega Dead Celebrity Thread

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A World Wrestling Entertainment star was found dead in his hotel room Sunday in Minneapolis, where he was scheduled to appear that evening in a WWE show. Eduardo Gory Guerrero, 38, didn't respond to a wake-up call Sunday morning, authorities said. His nephew, fellow WWE wrestler Chavo Guerrero, and hotel security at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center forced their way into the room and found him. There were no apparent signs of foul play, police said. An autopsy was planned to determine how Guerrero died. His nephew said Guerrero was open about past drug and alcohol abuse but had been sober for four years. Guerrero was married and had three children. "This is a huge loss," said WWE chairman Vince McMahon. "Eddie was a wonderful, fun-loving human being. Eddie was a consummate performer." Guerrero was a featured star on the series WWE Smackdown! He was the son of Mexican wrestler Gory Guerrero. Last year, he became the second wrestler of Hispanic heritage to be WWE champion, though he lost the title four months later. A special aired last year on his life called Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story. The program chronicled Guerrero's childhood and his struggle with drug addiction that almost cost him his job, family and life. -

Calaway's Closing Day 2005
Cdn Mndbndr replied to Splash_Mountain's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
^ Uhm yeah, I got that. I guess you missed my point. I meant to be sarcastic in nature, Like Calaway is so cheap why build a 2nd water ride when you can just repaint, and rename the old one. I mean they did it with "turn of the century", er Corkscrew, I mean Vortex. But no doubt in Calaway fashion, Mother Nature's ride, will most likely be some ages old ride, that has been out for years in the US, but will be "ALL NEW for 2006", by Alberta standards. -

Cdn Mndbndr replied to Splash_Mountain's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
^^ Why would they go through the expense of putting in a rapids ride? They already have their "Log Ride", in all it's craptacular splendor. Let's face it, Calaway Park always has been and always will be a small-time "young- family" park. If you want thrills head north to West Edmonton Mall, they may only have one major coaster also, but at least it's an Anton! -

25 years and still the same ol tired arrow corkscrew that they opened the park with. You'd think that in 25 years they MIGHT be able to offer something else. Anything else! Sheesh!! I am sad to say that this used to be one of 2 parks I called home till I moved east. -

Pacific Ocean Park rings a bell for some reason. It's quite possible that is the coaster I am thinking of, I just wish my memory of that period wasn't so foggy. (Insert age joke here) I also have 2 other possible coasters I am checking out. 1 was near San Francisco at Whitney's Playland, and the other at Mission Beach. Although again neither of these mention anything about an underwater section. I am certain now however that if it did exist it was at one of these waterside amusement parks and that it was in California.
-
I don't remember for certain, like I said previously, it was a long time ago. There could also be a few years lapse between when I got the postcard and the actual earthquake occurence. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to look at other locations outside California. I do distictly remember a connection of the postcard, and the location of the coaster. I really appreciate your effort.

Hopefully someone on the boards will be able to help me with this. As a young child, a friend sent me a postcard from California. On the front there was a picture of an amusement park that was on some sort of pier. ( Santa Cruz Beach???) Anyhow, I seem to remember that there was a rollercoaster at this pier that ran under it or through a trench underwater. An earthquake possibly damaged this portion (underwater) and it was condemned and the coaster either torn down or retracked? Can anyone help me with this? The time period would be around the late 70's to early 80's.

Project Tumble Weed?

Taken from "www.coaster-net.com" --And 2004 also brought Shockwave's fate, as it was scrapped and sent to the boiler. -- I'm thinking someone should start an old age home for no longer wanted coasters. Store them in a warehouse for future generations. -
New Six Flags Season Pass!
Cdn Mndbndr replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hi, Just a thought about the different coloured passes, it could be a way the marketing department of SF tracks the trends of it's patrons. ie.) How many people purchase online in advance, how many purchase last minute online or at the gate. It also could be a way they track people from different parts of the country visiting other parks, to help facilitate their ride exchange programs. PS: This is my first post
