Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread

That sounds like a great storyline! And it makes sense considering that survey back in 2016 about a launched spinning coaster and would be themed to a tourist time travel attraction. I can't wait to see the themeing on Time Traveler! -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
EliHorton replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You are saying this about the people that to this day complain about the condor ride being removed and the rapids ride being removed a couple years ago. And did you see that one guy in the comments that was upset because Hersheypark removed a little scene from the train ride? The people of Hershey never forgive and never forget. -
Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread

Welp I went to Silver Dollar City again today except this time I went alone (I was going to go with a friend but she had Volleyball practice and then I was going to go with boyfriend but he had a family event). I was hoping that if I went with somebody I could get them to take a picture through the gate when driving up to the park but unfortunately I had nobody. I looked through the gate though, and oh my Lord. It is insane. There are lots of twists and turns, it looks like there is a straightaway for a launch, the vertical drop, and the biggest addition to the layout since the last update: a vertical loop. This one doesn't look super huge so it looks like after you go through the inversion after the drop (perhaps an immelmann?) then you will go into this loop. You can't really get any good views of the rest of the layout from the culinary arts porch. Well actually you can see the track fairly well but if you were to try and take a picture you wouldn't be able to tell because of the trees. The employees are even getting in on the teasing. I was sitting on the back porch at one point eating a small ice cream cone from the Grand Exposition and a lady was giving a group a tour of the school and brought them out on the back porch and one guy pointed over to the station and asked what was happening over there and the lady said "gravity is being redefined." And then at one point I was standing there watching as they were hoisting a new piece through the air and an employee was sweeping the deck and said to me "watching gravity being redefined?" I'm so excited for it to be announced! Now for the rest of my visit I just rode Powder Keg (watched somebody get busted with a Go Pro), Outlaw Run, Wildfire (it seemed significantly shakier than in my previous visits, my ears were actually red afterwards from hitting the restraints), Thunderation, Magnificent Wave Carousel, Firefall, and Electro Spin. I also did the cave tour. Then I left. Crowds were surprisingly small considering it was sunny and only 76 degrees all day. -
I know right! Literally the day before the announcement it was all whining about how no one had built a Raptor and speculating about when someone would build a Raptor. Boom! Someone does, and immediately complaints. People are awful. I like to look at the best things in each situation. Strange color scheme? It'll stand out more on the park's skyline. Shoulder straps? It'll be more cozy, like on a wing rider. Low capacity? More time to stand in line and watch the ride. Plus literally everything else about this coaster looks amazing. I love that they are keeping the old pool from Power Surge, it will make for some cool visuals. 2018 looks to be one of the best years for amusement parks. There is a new coaster at Knott's and California's Great America, RMC coasters going in at Cedar Point and Kings Dominion, this, and Time Traveler. Incredible!

I mean, it looks awesome, but Mean Streak??? Mean Streak does look amazing, but I think it just comes down to what he likes most in a coaster. And it already seems like Time Traveler will be an exceptionally unique experience. Already this coaster looks amazing and there's probably only about two hundred to three hundred feet of track placed. Mean Streak seems like it will be all about that airtime with a few inversions while something tells me that Time Traveler will be all about the positive g-forces and inversions. Although it definitely would be a nice surprise if it had some airtime moments. Mean Streak looks great, but it’s really not innovative (from what we’ve seen so far). I’ll most likely be riding RMC Mean Streak and Time Traveler on both of their opening weekends. But I put a greater value in innovation than stats. Though Mean Streak looks great, it will most likely ride like every other RMC, which is far from a bad thing. But with Time Traveler (or whatever they decide to name it) you’re riding something unlike anything else in the world. How cool is that? The exact same thing happened in 2013 with Gatekeeper and Outlaw Run. Tried and True vs. Crazy cool, innovative ride. I distinctly remember people being more excited for Gatekeeper, because the stats were impressive and everyone loves a good B&M. But nowadays, I don’t know anyone who would say that Gatekeeper is a better coaster than Outlaw Run. Mean Streak really just looks like a larger version of every other RMC Iron Horse conversion. Again, that’s NOT A BAD THING!!! But I’d like to participate in something exciting, new, and innovative instead of a larger version of something I’ve already rode. But again, I’M RIDING BOTH NEXT YEAR! I hope to ride both next year, too. Not opening weekend but all the same. SDC is of course my home park so I will of course go there probably about thirty times next summer. Other than that I will be going to Silverwood for the first time (I have some family that just moved up to Idaho), Cedar Point, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas (maybe). I've been wanting to go to Fiesta Texas for a while now since they have the old Batman: The Ride from Six Flags New Orleans, Iron Rattler, lot's of Texas charm, a good mix of thrilling and flat rides, and some pretty awesome water rides. After Wonder Woman was announced, i knew that it was time for me to finally make the eleven hour drive down to San Antonio. -

That track in the middle of the photo looks to be either a launch or brake Run. Also, there looks to be the start of an inversion slightly on the right. I'm just stunned. This coaster just got really crazy in a short amount of time! I'm super hyped for this! SAME! Already, this looks like something I will scream out of fear on. There are only a few coasters that I've ridden where I've been legitimately terrified, looks like I'm about to add one more to the list. I mean, already it looks like an action packed ride. I mean just as you leave the station you are already plunging straight down into a valley! -

um. . ."weird" in what way? it's named after Wonder Woman's lasso (because the yellow track looks like her lasso). . and the supports / train appear to be painted to match her colors - the same colors as Superman (always have been): Red, Blue, and Yellow (tho Wondy has some white in her boots, and stars on shorts) I kind of wish that they had maybe half of the supports blue and half red, but I think it will look good when it is built. I mean it sits right by Superman, which has red track, Poltergeist has yellow track, Scream has both red and yellow on it, Goliath has yellow supports. I think it will end up looking good on the skyline.

Surely not. Maybe it is just the way they were hoisting it up? And the support is in the background? That just seems so crazy! While I'm not convinced it isn't just camera angle, I don't think a vertical drop is crazy in the least for a park with an 87 degree drop already to get one that's 90 degree vertical. Yeah. WOW! I'm just so excited that they are building this! And I'm happy that I live only an hour away! i'm not one for themeing, but I cannot wait to see what they end up doing as a theme. Already this (maybe) dive coaster is looking better than any B&M dive coaster! -

You know, that makes a LOT of sense! Especially if the ride started off with a dive like the plane didn't work, but then swoops upward and flies for the rest of the layout! Oh, and that drop looks ludicrous And the fact that it drops right out of the station! There is no possible way that that could be the highest point of the ride, they haven't put up enough supports for that yet. -

Surely not. Maybe it is just the way they were hoisting it up? And the support is in the background? That just seems so crazy! I'm probably going to SDC again next Tuesday (I have to go to Spokane to pick up my schedule for school, at that point I'm already halfway to SDC so why not?). I'll just have to go on to the back porch of the Culinary Arts school and have a look. If it is a Mack dive coaster, I will be happy. If it is a Mack extreme spinner, I will be happy. I will just be happy we are getting a new coaster! And again, if it is steampunk, I will love it. The queue will probably be so awesome! I'm thinking maybe there is a staircase wrapping around the wall and in the center they could have that flying machine thing suspended from the ceiling, kind of like the gift shop of Wildfire. Or I'm thinking that there are multiple floors in that building and each floor is a different scene. -
Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread

Yeah. The day I went it must have been a more relaxed crew. They were sending out rafts with five children. Some rafts even had two adults and three children. They must have been maxing out capacity trying to get through the line. Again, the parking lot was only half full, and the slides all had super long lines. They really need to do something with their capacity issues. But yeah, it is pretty overpriced. Admission isn't too bad, but everything in the park is super expensive. So my friend put on her swimsuit and realized a strap had broken on the top. I said we should just leave, go to the Tanger just down the road and get a new swimsuit, but she said she'd just buy one there. The cheapest suit we found was almost forty dollars. It was insane. And their best slide, the drop capsule one, is about half the size of any of those capsule slides I've been on. They cleared out an entire hillside to build it and it was so small! I don't think I'm going to go again for a LONG time. -

EliHorton replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^^ I hope it is fairly long, too. SDC is my home park, and I will say we do have some fine coasters, they all just seem so short. Powder Keg seems like the shortest, even though it is the longest. I kind of wish they didn't use the old Buzzsaw Falls lift and just had the rest of the ride airtime hills and low to the ground curves. But yeah, given the high cost of the ride, I'm sure it will be pretty long. At least 4,000 feet, maybe close to 5,000. I noticed that it looks like there will be two transfer tracks so is it possible that it could run three trains? And if it does could that mean that there will be a mid-course like on Blue Fire? Either way, I'm excited to see what the theme of this ride will be. So far I'm liking the hinted steampunk theme. -

I love Kings Island! So far, it is my favorite corporate park. It was where I rode my first flying coaster and suspended coaster. Firehawk is still one of the only rides I've been on where I have screamed out of fear. Lol. -

EliHorton replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yea, it was odd. Do they typically only run 1 train or was it just a weird day? They only run one train on days that it is *dead.* Most of the time they run two trains. And sometimes if it gets more crowded during the day they will add a second train to the track. -

OMG! I totally wish I could have ridden Buzzsaw Falls! Unfortunately I was only two when the Buzzsaw Falls closed in 2003 . I have a super old souvenir cup from SDC and on one side there is Buzzsaw Falls, the other side is Geyser Gulch, and on the other side is Thunderation. My mother said that Buzzsaw Falls was a blast when it was still open. Powder Keg is fun and all, but I really wish I could have experienced it. And I wish Premier built more of those water coasters. -

WW is an AMAZING PARK! It is the biggest in the area, biggest I (and most locals) have ever bern to, and the best I have ever been to. It is SOOOOOO much better than SDC. The admission price is cheap and worth it for everything there is. There is no water park in this area that has slides/attractions like they have. There is no "family raft slide". Do you mean Ohana Falls? It holds 2-4 people. It cant hold a whole family. Yeah, I mean Ohana Falls. Each raft can hold five people, that's pretty much a family. It is the biggest in the area, but that isn't saying much considering it is the ONLY water park in Southwest, Missouri. It is only thirteen acres so it is on the smaller side for water parks. I can criticize you for liking it better than SDC considering I liked Celebration City better than SDC back when it was still open. It is definitely my least favorite water park though. There is nothing there that just stands out. Here's how I rank the water parks I've been to: 10. White Water 9. Big Surf (Lake of the Ozarks) 8. Oceans of Fun (Worlds of Fun) 7. Hurricane Harbor (Six Flags St. Louis) 6. Hurricane Harbor (Six Flags Over Texas) 5. Soak City (Kings Island) 4. Splashin Safari (Holiday World) 3. Adventure Bay (Adventureland) 2. Hurricane Bay (Kentucky Kingdom) 1. Crystal Falls (Magic Springs) I would probably like White Water more if it actually had something semi-unique. Maybe a master blaster or a good slide complex. My favorite slide complex is that one at Crystal Falls, it has two bowl slides, two regular slides, and then three super fun speed slides up top. -
The Park at OWA Discussion Thread
EliHorton replied to flagrockerthegreat's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Awe. I'm sorry. And I heard Rollin' Thunder was actually pretty good, a lot more comfortable than Thunderbolt. Speaking of which, how did you like it? It seems like most people either love it and think it is underrated or most people hate it with a burning passion. And also, what did you think of the rest of Owa? I absolutely LOVE the collection of flat rides they got from Zamperla. The first time I rode it I sat on the middle seat, and it wasn't too bad, but not the best I've experienced. The second time, I sat on the left seat and man I heat my head three times on the seat and it felt like my leg was being ripped off. That ride is a lot more scary than it looks. Honestly, sounds kind of fun to me. I'm probably known for riding T3 at Kentucky Kingdom, THE thigh crusher, and I liked it. LOVED it even. I'm excited for when I'm able to go out to Owa. How did you like the rest of the park? I love the selection of rides they chose. Although I wish they went with a Zamperla Giant Discovery rather than a Zamperla Midi Discovery Revolution, I do love the Midi Discovery Revolutions, but I like the Giant Discoveries better because they give more floater air, plus they just look more impressive. I honestly only rode Rolling Thunder, Aerozoom, and the Crazy Mouse. Those spinning rides make me feel HORRIBLE. I was hesitant to even ride Aerozoom because of the constant circling around. Living in Alabama for most of my life I honestly love this place, especially since its near me. It can't be compared to Disney, or Universal but it's still not bad. They definitely will need to expand the park because it's pretty small. The retail area looked really nice but only a small section of it was open for us to walk around and look. I spent about four hours here in the theme park alone, so with the addition of a retail area, expanded amusement park, and waterpark, I can definitely spend a day here. I do think it was a good idea to open areas of OWA in phases to test the waters and honestly they're not doing too bad. One flaw that really concerned me was that I saw a lady use the admin panel for the fluffy, fluffy bunny filled with medicine and goo rentals to open a fluffy, fluffy bunny filled with medicine and goo for someone. No password or anything was required to get to the admin panel, just a simple three taps on a certain part of the screen. Me and my friend tried it when she left and were able to open a fluffy, fluffy bunny filled with medicine and goo. We didn't take anything but this could easily be abused. I hate to post this online but that's not a smart thing on their part. Ah. I'm sure after this year most of the operations and stuff will be figured out. I mean this is a brand new park operated by people who have never operated another park. Still sounds like you had a pretty good time. It will be exciting whenever all the shops open. And I'm super excited for the water park. I'm not usually crazy about water parks, but a water park would really make Owa a great place to visit with a hotel on site, lots of shops, an amusement park, and a water park. Owa does seem a bit small, but I'm sure I could be entertained for about five to six hours. I'd probably marathon Rollin' Thunder and Spinning Mouse, then ride all the flats a couple times each. Most of the time I can ride flat rides, but the time I went to Six Flags Over Texas it get up to 115 degrees and I was pretty nauseous throughout the day. I almost threw up on the Sky Screamer. I'll be excited for when I can go to Owa in a couple years when all the trees have grown a bit so there is more shade. Plus by then there will probably be a water ride and maybe even a couple more flat rides (I'd love to see them get a Zamperla Power Surge and Galleon). I wonder what year the water park will come? I'm thinking maybe 2019, at least it seems more realistic since they would probably want to make some money before they make another huge expansion. But I was reading that the tribe that owns it has a LOT of money so I wonder if the water park would come next year? -

Nice pictures of my home park. It is strange that they were running only one train on the coasters. When I last went (last Thursday) they were running two trains on Outlaw Run, two trains on Wildfire, one train on Thunderation (the other train was on the transfer track and there were guys working on it), and Powder Keg was running all three trains. Did you ride anything else in the Grand Exposition other than the kiddie coaster? I can never pass up the Royal Tea Party, Electro Spin, or Magnificent Wave Carousel if I'm ever in that corner of the park. Oh, and did you check out Fireman's Landing? That area has one of the most powerful S&S Double Shots. -

I haven't heard about a 2001 tunnel renovation. I thought it had a re-purposed Jim Owens tunnel until 2005-ish when they replaced it with the current boring empty concrete tunnel due to structural issues. It's a shame they didn't use more of the old Jim Owen's flume. I think it's kind of funny how much of it is still just out there in the woods with in-tact theming and all. Without the old tunnel, it's a much more "blah" ride than any ride at SDC should be. There used to be more themeing on the American Plunge? I was born in the summer of 2001 and the way it is now is how I've always remembered it. I've perfectly okey with the amount of themeing on it, which it is basically that one scene with the dog pulling the guy out of the water. I mean my favorite log flume (Frightful Falls at Holiday World) doesn't have any themeing. -
