Adventureland (Iowa) Discussion Thread
EliHorton replied to rbpia's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh. Ok. Well I'm sorry for..... Making you mad? I just wanted to post that comment real quick before I had to leave for school. I didn't really think to post the link. I didn't mean to make anybody mad. On an off note, I seriously LOVE the Pig Out name and theme. I'm so excited for this! I love anytime a park makes a big investment like this. Although I was kind of hoping they'd get one of those Zamperla beach houses. But I love what they are getting! -

We now know the two rides that will be coming to Adventureland! One will be a Skyline Crazy Couch called Pig Out and another will be a pony ride that is similar to Moose on the Loose at Darien Lake! -

Were there any coaster closures this past weekend? I'm about to send a friend there for the first time and I would like to know if the trip will be worth it. I know he'll be wanting to ride Outlaw Run. Thanks I'm so sorry! I did not see this until now. But there were no ride closures. SDC is usually pretty good about keeping rides open for an Olde Time Christmas. They usually don't shut down the rides until it gets to 37 degrees. Although they will shut them down at 40 degrees if it is windy. I've gone to an Olde Time Christmas every year since I was born and there was only one time that I went and they had the rides closed. -

I went to SDC tonight to check out both Time Traveler and the all new Christmas in Midtown. Christmas in Midtown is GORGEOUS. I spent at least an hour in Midtown alone while I was looking at all the lights! I love all the different light tunnels in there! And I loved all the giant trees! Time Traveler also looks super impressive! Even though it sits on a big piece of land, it still seems like they shoehorned it in there. Like, I'm almost positive I could have touched the brake run from the queue line of Thunderation. I'm super hyped to ride it! -
Hmmmm. Possible. But who would buy a 30+ year old log flume? And they couldn't possibly get a whole lot of money from scrap. And there is no way that they could have bought the new ride used, I mean there are only two Iron Shark models. Hmmm. RCDB says that Krater cost ten million dollars to build. Perhaps most of that cost was from ground blasting, I mean it looks like it sits on a hill so the ground may have required lots of prep.
-
It seems like more people are complaining about how the log flume is getting torn out rather than how fun the new roller coaster looks. I think this will be a great addition for them. They are tearing out a ride that was costly to maintain and didn't receive the ridership to justify the costs to keep running it and they are replacing it with a new coaster that will no doubt boost attendance and will not require as much maintenance as a log flume, especially if they only run one or two cars at a time. Plus it will no doubt hype visitors as they enter the park since the new coaster will be fairly close to the park entrance. I'm still just baffled that they are getting a new coaster and that they are getting ANY new Gerstlauer coaster in 2017 for four and a half million dollars. And I like the idea of using the "Lake Monster" name.

Wow! This is amazing! I absolutely love it! Sure it is sad that Thunder River is leaving, but this will definitely be a great new ride! Here's what I'm wondering though: I thought they said that the ride would cost 4.5 million dollars; however, Krater (a clone of Iron Shark) cost ten million dollars.

Canobie Lake Park Discussion Thread

Who else has seen those plans for the water park expansion? I LOVE IT! It looks so creative having the wave pool entry, the lazy rive that splits off of it, and then the slide complex on the island made by the lazy river. It always makes me happy to see such small parks adding such large new rides! -
Or a Zamperla Thunderbolt But i think Darien Lake should do something useful with that land and maybe add in a few flat rides as well. Lol. A Thunderbolt is over budget, they cost about ten million dollars. If it is going to be a new coaster, I hope it is a Vekoma suspended family coaster. Those things are a BLAST to ride. I love the one at Frontier City. It feels so cool to have your feet dangling, yet you don't have a bulky over the should restraint! Though I'm sure that would be over budget, too.

I went to both Kentucky Kingdom and Holiday World for the first time over this summer (along with Kings Island but nobody has mentioned that place). I absolutely LOVED all of the woodies I rode. Raven was pretty rough. Well, it was on and off throughout the day. I rode it ten times and I thought it was glossy smooth five times, I thought it was moderately rough twice, and I thought it was unbearably rough three times. I never even rode in the backseat. I thought the Legend was VERY smooth and I LOVED it. And Thunder Run. There is just something about it that I really loved. I loved all the low to the ground turns and I loved those ejector airtime hills. Plus I thought it was very smooth in the front seat. I rode it in the back and it was moderately rough. Although I am younger so I can take a little more jostling around.

This is still a very exciting addition! It is an improvement! And it seems to already have a positive feedback, there are nothing but positive comments on Facebook about it. It'll be fun to see what other slides they get over the next five years! I'm hoping some speed slides. The Gully Washer slides at Frontier City are super fun!

Robb & Elissa in the USA - 2017!
EliHorton replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know right? I actually quite enjoy all the small additions and the revitalization of that area where Hannibarrels used to be. Though I do miss the rides that used to be in the Illinois section like Water Street Cab Company, Rush Street Flyer, Riverview Racers, etc. I think Six Flags St. Louis is one of the more charming Six Flags parks and they don't have advertisements on all the rides. And I'm actually super excited for Typhoon Twister! I'm not too into water slides but Typhoon Twister looks really fun. My gal pals and I are already planning a little road trip to go to St. Louis after school gets out so we can go to Six Flags, the City Museum, the St. Louis Zoo, the St. Louis Arch, etc. (The drop tower came from Six Flags Astroworld by the way. Great Escape got the drop towers from New Orleans.) -

I'll probably skip a day of school to go, too. Lol. I go to Spokane just twenty minutes down the road from SDC. -

Nope, 2019 will be an off year. SDC hasn't had big attractions in back to back years in a long time, and there's no reason to expect it. They do have several intentional expansion points, including past Outlaw Run, past Powder Keg, and the employee lot next to Elephant March. There's no rush to expand, but they will use the land when they're ready. Probably more towards 2020. I have to say that employee parking lot would be a great plot of land for placing a good old traditional woodie such as a GCI to replace the former OzCat at CC or even a B&M Invert which could either be tied into Firemans Landing or a rethemed Grand Expo. I would love to see a GCI or Gravity Group coaster on that plot of land. Or even a Gerstlauer family coaster similar to Firechaser or a Vekoma suspended family coaster. Though I'd REALLY love to see them put in a Zamperla giant discovery since they don't have many thrilling flat rides. -

Adventureland (Iowa) Discussion Thread
EliHorton replied to rbpia's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Seems like this addition is well received with the people of Des Moines. If you look through the comments on the Facebook post you see nothing but positive comments and people saying that their young ones will definitely enjoy it. I didn't see one comment complaining that it isn't a thrill ride. Adventureland seems like one of those family owned parks that isn't talked about enough. I think the two kiddie rides will probably be a Zamperla jump around and I could either see Zamperla barnyard and of course have the barnyard theme to it, or some miniature tea cups. I don't know why but I'm REALLY looking forward to this addition. It just makes me so happy to see parks filling in little gaps like this. -
Adventureland (Iowa) Discussion Thread
EliHorton replied to rbpia's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Adventureland just announced a new kiddie area for 2018. It will be called Bernie's Barnyard. They said it will be located behind Storm Chaser and the new area will have a new arcade, a playground, and two new kiddie rides. I think that is the perfect addition for Adventureland because they have a lot of thrilling flat rides and big coasters (they may not seem huge to the average coaster enthusiast but they look huge to children), but they lack in small rides for just the kids. They didn't specify what the two kiddie rides will be, but I hope that one of them is a kiddie coaster like one of those Zamperla ones. And if one of those rides isn't a kiddie coaster, then I hope they get one next year or the year after.
