  1. Call me crazy but I'd rather be a deep guard than work attractions. Better hours, better pay, more responsibility, more training that you can talk about in future interviews. Maybe it's just cause we're in a discussion board for theme park/coaster enthusiasts, but I don't really get why attractions is the most awesome thing ever. Just my opinion though! Actually, fun fact, Disney has it's own custom lifeguarding certification, and the company retains ownership of your certifications. So if you're a Disney lifeguard you can't go lifeguard anywhere else without getting a different certification.
  2. They covered the Gusteau head on the archway, but the benches that line that walkway have subtle Ratatouille engravings on them as well. I'm glad to see an expansion finally moving forward for this park, it really is in dire need of more attractions and more space for guests.
  3. This could be a smart move for Holiday World. It seems like there's political pressure for Kentucky Kingdom to reopen, and it seems like the search to find a viable management team has been a struggle. I think one way or another this park is going to reopen eventually- and it's market does overlap with Holiday World. If Holiday World had control over the park, they'd also have control over that entire market.
  4. Such a shame about the Crypt, back in it's prime that ride was one of the best themed thrill rides outside of a Disney or Universal park. Since it switched over to Crypt though it's really become a shadow of it's for ER self- the theming hasn't been maintained, no more preshow, no more storyline, and to too it off a really weak ride program. It's sad if this isn't going to operate anymore, but I can't say that I'm surprised.
  5. I have to assume this is the case. They do a really good job of retracking during the off season, but the ride is so intense that I think by the end of the season the coaster has probably torn itself up again and is rough. I've visited Holiday World twice, both times at the beginning of the season. Both times I've absolutely loved the Voyage, it's actually in my top 3. But then I see reports from TPR, who always go late in the season, and they just bash the ride. I've never had a bad ride on the thing, but all of my visits to the park have been on opening weekends. I'm sure that it probably feels a lot different when August rolls around.
  6. Waterpark lifeguards have the same uniforms as resort lifeguards, they just have to get in the water more often and have the option to take off their polo when they do. But yeah, if you have tattoos that can't be covered that could be an issue. Your friends are really easily stressed out, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I would just strongly advise that if you put down lifeguard you're prepared to work wherever. If you tell your interviewer "I wanna be a lifeguard but I don't want to work here" you're gonna shoot yourself in the foot.
  7. Wrong. Being a waterpark lifeguard is better than being a resort lifeguard. You get to work more positions (your job isn't as boring), you never work late, you get the best hours. Also, if you're going to go into your interview with the attitude of "dont put me here cause it's more work than I want to do"... Seriously I think your gpa is the least of your worries.
  8. This coasters is going into the X-Sector, the color scheme of the whole area is black and gray. Remember how out of place all that Fanta crap looked around Oblivion? I personally think the colors are fine for the ride's placement in the park
  9. Wow. How disappointing for Alton Towers. I mean a Euro Fighter will be fine I guess, but they could have gotten something way cooler
  10. I think all of the B&M Wingriders will essentially feel like big family thrill rides. This one and X-Raptor have at least invested a lot into constructing cool visuals and near misses. These things aren't gonna pull high g's or give any crazy airtime, but at least Thorpe and Gardaland have integrated a good bit of theming.
  11. I expect 24 hour coverage from jedimaster. In fact, go ahead and get there at 5:30 so you can get photos for the opening show. Thanks in advance.
  12. I think this is a good move! Frankly, Cedar Fair parks often have good attractions, but they can often have a painfully bland atmosphere and a lack of charm. I'm sure we'll keep seeing thrill coming to Cedar Fair properties, but hopefully the Disney experience will make the parks more well rounded with a little bit more "personality".
  13. This sounds cool to me! I think one of the problems FJ had was that it was built in such a tiny space that they really had to rush the story. The ride makes perfect sense, but it took me a few rides to get everything because it all just comes at you so fast. The projection screens were just a way save space, and really don't add anything to the ride. Overall, it's impressive that they built such a "big" attraction in such a small space, but I definitely was confused on my first few rides just because of the rushed pace of it all. Hopefully this new addition won't have that same problem, the space they're working with is much larger, and the ride system itself could turn out to be interesting. Put me down as cautiously optimistic.
  14. I'd wait that long for a ride if it was omfg amazing and I had never gotten on it/ was unlikely to return. I think Divv and I sat and waited at Tobu Zoo for probably 4-5 hours with all of the rides closed due to weather. I also waited 3.5 hours for Spiderman opening year.
  15. ^^No. Click the link and you'll become even more confused!
  16. Wow Big Mike you brought it way back with some of those photos, I had completely forgotten about several of them! Happy New Year!
  17. ^There was a period of time when only AP holders, hotel guests, and guests with reservations were allowed into the parks, but they never reached a full close (which at least MK usually does on New Years). Disney has different "phases" of closing, but they didn't reach total capacity, as they reopened for everyone in the afternoon. IOA and Legoland are both smaller parks, so I can see why they would have to completely stop admitting people. I wonder what max capacity for those parks are
  18. My guess is that Disney and Universal probably didn't want to deal with the social media backlash... which IMO is a smart move. As much as the crazies came out to jump on Legoland, that page has only a fraction of the followers that Disney has. I don't think I could stand to read through that crap, and it would give the park bad publicity. Plus, at least at Disney you can just easily hop over to another park.
  19. This was linked from Screamscape yesterday: http://airgates.co.uk/2011/12/23/new-secret-weapon-coaster-rumoured-for-x-sector/ Maybe someone who is more familiar than the park can clear this up for me, but is this where we're really thinking the new coaster is going to go? I thought the X-Sector area of the park was where they keep having problems with neighbor complaints, it seems odd to add another major coaster in that area. What happened to this replacing the log flume? If it's true that the coaster is going in this spot then I like it. I think that area of the park needs a facelift and a new attraction. I can see a lot of cool storylines for a sinister military launched coaster.
  20. It's good to see that most of the comments are along the lines of "congrats Legoland". There's just always a few stupid people who ruin social media for everyone.
  21. I have to wonder if they've done anything to improve the ride's capacity. Even with Japan's super awesome operations, the ride's throughput is crap! And Disneysea has higher attendance than Studios or DCA. Should be interesting to see this progress
  22. If I had to make a list of my top five themed rides, this is how it'd go (in no particular order) Space Fantasy- Universal Japan Mummy- Universal Florida Spiderman- USJ/IOA Tower of Terror- (Florida's version) Splash Mountain- MK (I'm a sucker for flume rides, and this is my favorite!)
