Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
JT325 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm going to assume polls are against the forum rules? Wondering what percentage think it will open Spring 2017, Summer or Fall 2017, or 2018. I don't have a strong opinion either way myself. But I am enjoying Cedar Point trying to hide what's going on! -

New Super Cyclone from Interpark. http://santasvillagedundee.com/its-going-to-be-a-wild-year/ For anyone who hasn't been here, go! It's a great little park; the condition and operation of the place makes a bigger park up the road look sad. And, they have the most frightening/awesome drop tower in the Midwest. -

Oh how I miss the sky rides at my home park SF Great America. They scared the crap outta me when I was a little guy. But we still have our 2 original flumes! And they say "Great America" on all the logs/boats, no big SF logo... which makes them extra cool. I've become such a big fan of skyrides and flumes in the last few years. The "classic experience" is becoming rare these days. During my 3 days at PPP this year, I rode the sky ride at least 10 times. I also like cargo pants with zippers, but I'm CRAZY about old school Chance Zippers! Sorry to see the new model they are testing has shoulder bars and bucket seats, ew! It was really cool to hear Cedar Point/Fair is looking for "classic rides" around the world. They are starting the recognize the value of this stuff. I'm waiting for the day they can restore a classic Blue Streak experience. If little Kennywood can do it, a huge place like Cedar Point has the resources to do it. (And add something about Six Flags running Revolution with NO shoulder bars again, after everyone in the industry insisted that would never EVER happen again.) Strange things thankfully happen! Going to start a "bring back the Frontier Lift" petition (kidding) -
Cargo Shorts. Your thoughts?
JT325 replied to ElectricUncleSam's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One of the blessings of being 43 is not caring what other people think about me.. in my cargo pants/shorts. It's just been this last year that I noticed there was in fact a backlash, and a bunch of back-and-forth hoopla about how cringe-worthy cargo shorts are. Who'd a known!? If I'm going to make fun of anyone for their clothing, it's got to be the army's of yuppies decked out head-to-toe in The North Face. I wonder how much that company would pay me to advertise for them everywhere I go? It used to be throngs of people wearing CBGB shirts, having no clue what it stood for. But really, it doesn't matter. Heck, I wear Nike shoes. To think, they have been making fun of me for years with my cargo pockets! Cargo pants/shorts work well for me. I have my wallet (and phone, as long as I'm not INSIDE an amusement park), in one pocket, keys in the other, and my Epi-Pen* in one of the cargo pockets. *It's a pain to have take everywhere, but there is always a risk of cross-contamination. Oh yeah, how about that new Meaner Streak opening next spring!? -

I'm a little late, again, to the discussion... but I'll add that I have never put my phone in my back pocket, and no way I would do that. I'd plop down somewhere and crack it instantly. I'm 6-1/200lbs... No way! If it *MUST* go in the park with me, it's in a velcro/buttoned side cargo pocket. Perhaps even with an extra safety pin to make sure the pocket stays shut. I prefer leaving it locked in the car. -

^I've come to appreciate Raging Bull's first drop a great deal ... still not a big B&M guy, but I do love that drop. Great America is my home park too, but I still seem to have more fun on Demon's little *but snapping* first drop, and the unique/ever-steepening grand-ness of American Eagle. Goliath is good too, but I'm not a big fan of being stapled that hard to seat with a hard plastic thing between my legs. Heck, with Whizzer's awesome ramp, we sure do have a park full of unique first drops. Back to Cedar Point - lot's of great drops there, but Gemini is the only one that really slams you out. It's a round break-over; "circles and lines" does it! -

Understood. I'm thinking about some friends that I meet up with and all they do is look at their phone the whole time. Extremely annoying. -

I'll happily live in the moment, in real-time with the people around me. More power to you, if that's what you like to do. I get tired of looking at my phone. It gets a break when I go into a park. Heck, I prefer to put it away when friends come over as well. Because not everyone likes to take their phone in the park. Remembering the smashed phone screen I got on Kentucky Rumbler... Nah, my devices can stay in the car. I refuse to be a slave to my phone at an amusement park. -

You couldn't pay me to carry my phone into the park. I avoid it at all costs. If I have to meet up with friends, we agree on a time and place. -

^Hey, I don't hate Disney! Any more, anyway. Age does funny things. I'm with you on the Cedar Fair wristband system... what a simple way to go. Opposite of Six Flags; why would anyone want to carry around a beeper all day? -

I think 3 inversions on a Iron Horse RMC is a good amount. Maybe 4 if we have a secondary launch The dive-loop on Goliath is excellent! 2 lifts would be interesting too; not parallel like Twisted Colossus of course. I just hope they really do something "out of the box" for this design. Cedar Point has plenty of super-conservative designs. -

I wonder how many records CP will be going for this time? Highest steel-coaster-with-wood-structure? Longest coaster? Most trains on an RMC? I'm sure they will cook up a good list of records. Not that I personally care about records (most of my favorites hold no records), but that's what they do. -

Steep lifts are overrated... as a lift hill enthusiast. Minor gripe, I'm sure the ride will be awesome. -

Maybe it will be a lift-hill coaster, then it hits a launch section that goes away from the the Mean Streak footprint. The worlds longest coaster? Hey, Dreaming is free Whatever it is or isn't, the park sure seems like they're having fun! More power to em! -
Great pictures, thank you! Do the T-Express trains change color, or? How bad is that Arrow/Vekoma thing? That train is hideous...

Announcing "Skyline Attractions"

I think they called it a long train "with seats on the ends" in one of the videos. -
Old Chicago was my first "big" amusement park (after Kiddieland in Schererville, IN). I was about 4 and remember looking at the "Chicago Loop" all day, but not riding it. I rode the enterprise with my uncle's girlfriend, but didn't know it went upside-down until after the ride started. Quite a surprise! We rode the log flume twice and the haunted house had a goofy and funny witch that kept flying out of a window on her broom, then quickly pulling back in (like a koo koo clock). I also remember the entrance from the mall to the ride area; a spiraling path with 70's orange carpet. I read somewhere that future plans for the park included a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop. Imagine how cool that would be! It seems a big part of the parks failure was that there were no "anchor stores" in the mall. No Sears, etc. Lots of great pictures and info here: http://www.negative-g.com/old-chicago-amusement-park/old-chicago-amusement-park-index.htm I finally got around to riding that corkscrew coaster, last summer at Canobie Lake! Looks great runs like crap.

Favorite Arrow Coaster
JT325 replied to CdnbMatt's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Tough one, as I love their old Mine Train coasters... love em a little more each time I ride em! But overall, I would have to pick Magnum/Gemini/Demon (SFGAmerica). Hard to pick just one! After all these years, I still love Demon. It's gotten better as theme elements have returned. Still the best Arrow drop ever. Hold the VR... -

How about our 2 current midwest SF parks, but with excellent operations!? Think what it would be like if St. Louis and Great America ran like a well-oiled machine (like Cedar Point, for example). -
Planet Coaster (PLC) Discussion Thread

Does anyone know if PTC-style trains are the only type you can use for wooden coasters? Or is it just like that for the beta? I watched a few videos on youtube and every wooden coaster I saw had the same trains. I was hoping to see GCI Millennium Flyer trains as another alternative (kinda like what they did in RCT3). Nonetheless, everything still looks amazing! I cannot wait for this game! Nice designs! But where are the Schwarzkopf trains?!?? And woodie trains without headrests and ratchet bars?
