I just looked at a POV. It seems to go up a bit after the turn after the lift, so the entire distance shouldn't be called one drop. To hit 70mph would require the train to be going more than 34mph when it hits the apex point before the main drop, and I don't think that it is going 34mph. (My calculation assume no friction, too, so really it has to be going a bit faster than 34!) This wouldn't be the first time I've noticed an inaccuracy about coaster speeds on Wikipedia. Expedition GeForce would require a lift speed over 20mph (faster than I305 and probably faster than Skyrush when friction is considered) to reach the 74.6mph listed on Wikipedia. I don't think this is a Wikipedia issue. I just think numbers get exaggerated. -

These are solid thoughts, but there is a brake before the shed that could function as an MCBR. One train could crest the lift and go through the layout while another is in the shed, and then the train would leave the shed before it's time for the other to hit the MCBR. -

Hmmm, those are convincing arguments against my idea for the shed having a barrel roll. I thought it was such a good idea when I saw Karnan. (Actually I never wanted a barrel roll in there. I don't like hangtime.) -

I saw a video of that Karnan coaster in Germany, and it occurred to me that Mystic Timbers could do a barrel roll in there. Hasn't GCI expressed interest in doing an inversion? And that would set it apart from the Beast right nearby. -
Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
BigBad replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Some Great Endings El Toro's ejector hill and S-surves Thunderbolt's big drop into that ravine Diamondback's floater hill into the splashdown Fury 325's two hills that gave me solid ejector air on a B&M Fahrenheit's ejector hill into a high-G turn Phoenix's rapid hops, which might be the best of them all -

It could have something to do with not wanting animals to be able to get on the tracks. -

I think a roller coaster would be a good place to practice being social. We're all pretty comfortable on them, and you probably won't see that person again. -

This makes a lot of sense, but then I have to wonder why there hasn't been an original hybrid (which I've wondered in the past, too), or why RMC has built any wood coasters at all. I think there is some element of parks wanting to have the biggest woodie. -

I happen to be a coaster enthusiast, so I care and was hoping that New Mean Streak would be redone with topper track. -

I also was one of those people who thought and hoped it would be redone with topper track so that Blue Streak isn't the premier wood coaster at what's supposed to be the finest coaster park in the world, but the photos show I-box track. Perhaps the track style could change to topper track once they get through the pre-lift, but that's more like something that simply is permitted by the laws of physics rather than a reasonable conjecture. -

With a 2018 Capital Plan by RMC, I'm thinking that New Mean Streak will open 2017 and then another RMC, obviously a topper track woodie over 200 feet, will open in 2017!! (That was a joke.) -

I like this talk about an inverted drop on New Mean Streak, but I agree that it shouldn't be in place of a major ejector drop to start the ride. Mean Streak turns left and dives out of the MCBR. My idea is to have the MCBR lead to a right 270 that leads into a barrel roll drop like on Storm Chaser and Medusa Steel Coaster. -
The two worst names for me are the Tickler and Rita. Tickler is creepy, and then they have that horrifying logo. Rita is ridiculous. How is a girl named Rita supposed to feel when she goes to Alton towers and all the boys are making jokes about riding Rita? There are a few that I've grown to like: 1. Zumanjaro: Okay, that area of Great Adventure has tigers and I would say is themed more to India, consequently, but the gist is that it's the jungle, so Africa works just as well for most of us who don't know much about jungles, and Zumanjaro is a good play on Kilimanjaro. 2. Wicked Cyclone: I still don't like the idea of adding an adjective to the original name of an RMCed coaster, but if they had to add an adjective to Cyclone, they picked the right one for New England.

Why do you say that 1st generation Intamins and Larson/ARM drop towers are the best? The ones I've ridden (at least lately) have all been S&S or Zumanjaro, and I really like the ejector air on the S&S turbo drops. -
Weird roller coasters.

That tunnel definitely is an interesting idea. Not only does the coaster have painful transitions, but the dark tunnel won't even let you brace for them. -

It certainly would look different without the corkscrews there, but how about it gets replaced by a ride like Hershey's Fahrenheit? Those corkscrews could go over the midway, and Fahrenheit is really terrific with the new restraints. Paint it blue instead of yellow, of course. Arrow track is prettier than Intamin, but I like my idea. -
What Rides Scares the Crud Out Of You?
BigBad replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's the Sky Screamer rides at Six Flags. I've been on the ones at Great Adventure and SFNE. I have ridden them a total of three times. I don't remember my first experience. The last two were this past year, both on cold and windy days. Strapped in by almost nothing (or so it seems), I was spinning around up in the cold and wind. It was unpleasant, though I think I'd have more fun on a warm day, even if it's windy up high. I don't remember the first time I rode SFGA Sky Screamer, but it was in the summer. I'm not sure if it's a good kind of scary, but I would like to see that kind of openness explored for coasters and drop towers. Imagine Zumanjaro or the Big Shot in Vegas with the skimpy restraints on the Sky Screamer rides. If it's safe enough for being 400 feet up like the SFNE ride is, then it's safe enough for any height, I think. (I'd assume that it's game over if you fall out from the top of the New England Sky Screamer and that the safety precautions reflect that.) -
Oldest Coaster You've Ridden
BigBad replied to MSLSM's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I suspect that it's Kennywood's Jack Rabbit (1920), though it's been at least 10 years since I last rode. The oldest coaster I've ever ridden at the time I last rode is the Lake Compounce Wildcat (1927), which I rode over the summer. -

I did that in FVD++, or at least I started one. The drop exceeds 500 feet and pitches beyond vertical, though I don't remember the stats beyond that. Edit: I do know that I design my FVD++ tracks to have reasonable, even if intense, forces. -

Why didn't the S&S air launch catch on? It's obviously not just a one-time technology that made a crazy launch on Dodonpa. It has used it very effectively on drop towers. -

Where does one get something like an I305 ride manual? Skyrush has been said to spike at -2G in the cross-under hill. I think this is not in every seat and in all weather conditions, but it's also a spike. For me, the point of Skyrush is sustained ejector air, not just a quick pop to -2G. When I do FVD++ for NL2 and shoot for Skyrush-style air, I sustain -1.5 and then go a bit stronger right at the top to -1.75. The strongest force I've seen when I've done this has been about -1.9, so I think that's probably a good approximation of Skyrush. -

This looks like it will be awesome, among the best in the world. The beginning is like SFNE Hyper (many-time world #1) but taller and faster. Then the back end and spaghetti bowl are like the praised mega-lites. I'm not about to get a picket to Poland, but I'm really excited to see what else Energylandia has planned. They're obviously trying to be a major player, not just in Poland or Europe, but in the world.
