Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Hey guys I'm at the park today and I have to say so far everything except for corkscrew is open at this point. However it is very cold. Also the wait times aren't working for most rides. Im still so happy to finally be here though! -

I just received a tiny bit of future nostalgia, thinking about when I'll remember the good ol' days. When I'll tell my children and grandchildren about how we used to brace ourselves because a ride was so rough. Tell them about the CoasterBill method. In all honesty though I'm super happy for the RMC treatment but a deep part of me is going to miss that death trap. -
I'm going to sound like a broken record with ThunderHawk but in all honesty after riding it 10 times in a single day I really don't mind it. Timbers felt like it was hurting me more. I guess I just have the riding method down like I did with Mean Streak. But it's at the point I do it unconsciously so I wouldn't be able to explain it. Whenever I head there I'll try and take note XD.

Yeah I'm not sure where that came from. Yes, they've been wanting to get a 2nd train for Timbertown Railway for a few years now, but I can tell you it's not a Chance. It was from some company out west that builds and restores replicas, but they're nowhere near the quality of them as a Chance CP Huntington as why they're having issues with it. This year is the closest I've ever seen it getting ready so could see it appear sometime mid-July. The park still has a good standing with Chance, considering that they have 6 rides from them and send parts to them for refurbs. If that was the case, then they wouldn't even deal with Chance when it comes to those things. We'll see what 2017 brings us. We already know that they're building a giant maintenance building behind the new Training Center and connecting to the county's sewer system, there's a ton of options for expansion coming. There's quite a few options, but we'll see how things go. They do have a second train, and it was built by the company out west, Katiland, from what i've heard it has only run a few times Go back to last summer when I spent a week there whilst they tested the train to finally open it, it took days to finally get it certified lol. And yeah they had it for nearly four or five years before finally putting it into service late last summer. And yes I also believe you are correct in saying it wasn't built by chance. I believe I had posted a photo of it testing too, cant recall 100% though. edit: The photos are on page 152

Alrighty thanks all for the feedback, I kinda figured about the ops. Normally when I used to go with School later in May the ops still aren't as great as they are in the summer. -

Kind of random and early post but how do you guys think opening day crowds will be this year? Expect anything too stupid? Assuming nothing new in the normal park do you guys think the park will be just like a normal weekday in June? Thanks guys! -

In the Panda Express topic the one at cedar point is normally pretty good. We have one in a town close to where I live and that one is always so much worse than the CP one. Although it should also be noted I'm not really a big chinese person and we haven't had it the last few times we went. -

The whole time thing has been an argument in my mind. With no announcement i'm thinking 2018 but the ride's progress says 2017 to me. But maybe not opening day. I feel like it might open later in the season. It would almost be useless but it could be a possibility. -

Hey IMHO it's the smoothest Arrow looper I've ridden. The corkscrew at MIA and CP are both rougher. But that's because those are the only ones I wrode. And yeah I'm only talk about loopers, because their non-inverting rides are all over the place (Magnum vs vortex and iron dragon isn't really a fair comparison lol). Anyway one of the best texts I got from a friend this summer was "Arrow actually made a really smooth coaster!!!". They sent it after they rode Tennessee Tornado. -

I've thought about the timeline and where they actually are and if it doesn't open for 2017 what if it opens midway through the season? I feel it would be useless but it still came to my mind. -

Soooo... My favorite thing about Cedar Point's sky ride? Riding it in the rain and making whoever you're riding it with sit with the rain flying at their back. -
Didn't know that about outlaw run, so thanks! I also looked and wildcat would be a weird RMC because it's only 85 feet tall. It also has a pretty short layout so the best I could see them doing with it would be something like Lightning Run. Their shortest coaster is 100 feet. Also I found these three year old pictures of MiA on the same day with a drastic change in weather. I forgot I took them: Nearly 80 and sunny Nearly 80 and sunny I took them about 2 hours apart. 55 and rainy, foggy and cloudy

I've thought about this before and there isn't really too much they can do layout-wise. Unless they turn every other airtime hill into a stall or roll or something like that. Pretty much the best they could get would be a topper to make it smoother. (Maybe make it steeper and taller? I think they would have to because nylon wheels have more friction.) Somone correct me if RMC's topper's don't use nylon wheels lol, but metal on metal with something bigger than a strip seems like a bad idea.

But to be honest I know people who call Gemini a "wood coaster". I wouldn't think too deeply into it. -

Guys lets be honest the color is getting overused in the park... Smh. I'm kidding but it actually is getting funny. Edit: Centurion is also my guess because they teased it right when the planning for mean streak probably started, at least in my best guestimation. -
I went to Muskegon 3 times this season, and all three went to MiA. However one trip I went 4 days in a row because one of my friends work there, and I though it would be cool (it actually was). I did have fun running around trying to see when the train would open up and rode Thunder hawk more than 50 times. ST was less because it was busier and I've found it harder to ride lately. Wish there was more but still had loads of fun.

Alright I'm not trying to complain but the back row on one of the Valravn trains does have a rattle. I mean I've ridden Shivering Timbers and Thunderhawk at MiA over 10 times in a single day, so I'm used to stuff nearly 100 times worse than any B & M rattle, but it is there. I always thought it was just a little vibration after the second drop but you can feel the difference between the back and the second row (of course I didn't look at which train it was). I went on Wednesday this past week and Valravn was almost a walk on (TTD and Gatekeeper were walkons, and I'm not going to lie it felt weird). Great day great operations as always. Oh and Gatekeeper wasn't running a train and maintenance was looking at it. Might be why it was closed? And sorry about the whole Valravn thing it's glass smooth the entire ride but I swear I've felt a rattle before. -
I beg to differ there were two weeks in a row where one day the overflow was opened but didn't really fill up, and the next week a friend who works there said the overflow was pretty full too. The park attendance probably is still down though, considering it has been raining so much on the weekends.

I just came to a rather depressing realization: Canada's Wonderland and Michigan's Adventure are the only two CF parks to not tease or announce a single thing for next year. Dorney, World of Fun, Kings Island, Kings Dominion, California Great Adveture, Knotts, Carowinds, Cedar Point and even Valleyfair have all done some kind of announcement or teasing for a new attraction next year. Some of those are for the park's sister water park though, but it was teased as an announced through the main park. I didn't include CF's water parks because of that. -
^ They're obvioualy adding the maintence building so they can maintain their 2018 450 ft splashdown B&M accelerator-dive coaster because obviously the cables will need to be replaced in the timely manner of a week. Alright so that all was a joke. Except maybe the slow maintence part. The show pump on Adventure Falls has been broken about all year long. Or atleast hasn't operated while I was there since early June. Anyway a permanent petting zoo wouldn't be the worst addition ever, better than nothing though.

Halloweekends Fridays are dead. There might be like eleven people there, lol. Note that there is limited ride availability. I'll take it lol. As long as I can ride either Millie or Maverick i'll be great. Plus according to their website they should be giving rides on Mean Streak until 7
