I can't say this for a certainty, but I believe names are trademarked along ride types. Since that was not a roller coaster, and this is, it is okay for both to utilize the same name. If that is incorrect, somebody who is more familiar with Trademark Law can pitch in, and clarify! No that's incorrect. It's by industry. Hmmm... How do you explain both coasters being the same name then? I'm assuming Adventureland must not have trademarked it, but does that mean KK can't either? Easy explanation... Storm Chaser at Adventureland is a Wind Seeker, not a roller coaster. Well, that's what I suggested up above, but was told it was "incorrect." That certainly makes more sense to me than Adventureland simply not trademarking the name! Sorry, I was only answering your last post where you said they were both coasters. No, that's my bad! I hadn't even realized I'd mistakenly said "coasters" as opposed to "rides", in that last post! Sorry for the confusion!

Fun Spot America Discussion Thread

Both Stealth & Zaturn are longer than Freedom Flyer, so I really don't see an Intamin of that caliber or price range happening anytime soon. The park also seems to be going for the rumored The actual article states: "The roller coaster will be taller than the other two but with a short ride time." So, it doesn't actually say shorter than the other two, and it appears to be referring to actual "ride time", as opposed to length of coaster track. Given that Stealth is a 20 second ride, and Freedom Flyer is definitely longer than that, I think a Stealth or Zaturn clone would actually still fit that description quite well! However, the other part of what you mentioned, the price tag associated with such a coaster, is definitely a factor that I believe would likely preclude such an addition for a small park like Fun Spot. Stealth would have cost just shy of 19 million US dollars, and considering that they are allegedly also adding a log flume, and dark ride, even if they matched their 25 million dollar investment of 2013, that's probably not enough to get a Stealth clone for the rumored roller coaster. I just thought adding a coaster like that would be a savvy move for them to make to continue to assert themselves in the hyper-competitive Orlando entertainment market, and would be a direct shot across the bow of Sea World, which is nearby. I honestly never really thought it was a likely addition. FWIW, the other hot rumor, a coaster like Lightning Run, doesn't seem to fit that description at all! It is much longer both in duration, and length, than Freedom Flyer! So, it would seem something more along the lines of a Premier Sky Rocket II is the likely addition. That also has a very small footprint, which would be essential to fit it into that area, along with a log flume and dark ride. Though, it must be said, that its "ride time" is nearly a minute, which I believe is longer than Freedom Flyer's. The very short ride duration of a Stealth clone is why I mentioned that idea in conjunction with what the article said in the first place... -

^THIS I see online enthusiasts make these types of arguments about why "X" park won't get a new major capital investment all the time, often contradicting themselves in the same post! It's a veritable epidemic in any discussion about potential Michigan Adventure expansion! I've always shook my head when I see it, but typically keep silent. I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing this particular "coaster enthusiast fallacy", however! Kentucky Kingdom is a good example of a smaller park that knows it needs to spend some money up front, and create some marquee additions, to get crowds back, in hopes of making a return on their investment. Holiday World is also a smaller park that has made a habit of constant improvements, on top of (and this is key) SPECTACULAR customer service, and experience, with the hopes that it translates onto the ledger. Cedar Point is a classic example of the other side of that argument being false, as they continually add major coasters and other capital investments (this was especially true throughout the 90's), in spite of having no need to, in order to maintain their lofty status as a theme park. I think Cedar Point, Dollywood, and even Holiday World all continue to regularly add new attractions at least partly because they know that it communicates an appreciation of their fans (I'm not speaking of simply enthusiasts here, but all "GP" who regularly attend the park) for their continued support. From what I've seen of Canada's Wonderland, it is definitely a "flagpole" park in the CF chain, due to its tremendous status as the biggest and best amusement park in Canada, and I think the frequent attention and upgrades are a testament to that. As such, a major new coaster in 2016 would not be a surprise at all to me, in spite of the financial matters that have been mentioned. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but it certainly wouldn't be a shock either, all things considered... -
Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread

I can't speak to the crowds, as I'm not a regular there. However, Phantom's Revenge is my #1 Hypercoaster (yes, over the B&Ms and Intamins!), so if you can squeeze at least three hours in the park into your schedule, I definitely recommend going there! I really like Kennywood's atmosphere, and besides PR, Thunderbolt is a classic, Sky Rocket is a fun little launched coaster, and Exterminator is my favorite indoor spinning mouse iteration! If you still have some time after hitting all of those, The Racer and Jack Rabbit are nice older wooden coasters as well! (And, you'll probably want to re-ride Phantom's Revenge multiple times, too!) -

I completely agree with you here! When I went to WOF it had one of the least grandiose entrances (not to mention being a ways from the parking lot) of any park I had been to. And unlike KD, which I also hear people talking about for the entrance coaster treatment, there is a ton of open space on either side of the entrance that is practically begging to be used for a coaster! Down the road a few years, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a new B&M coaster of some type gracing the front of the park there... -
Your Dream Lineup

I totally brain-farted on my favorite Hyper, until seeing some others with it on their lists! I also forgot about Expedition GeForce. So my modified (and final answer) Dream Park Lineup is below! Giga: Fury Hyper: Phantom's Revenge Hybrid: Twisted Colossus (Not having ridden any RMC, I went with this one, but it could be Wicked Cyclone or Medusa, too!) Invert: Banshee Woodies: The Voyage and El Toro Launched: Maverick Other 3: Bizarro (SFNE), Outlaw Run, Expedition GeForce -

It's funny... I am one of the first people to discount a coaster for being too rough, but I love The Voyage, and have it as my #1 wooden coaster! The Legend? I just can't enjoy that coaster. Tolerate, sitting in the very front, is the best I can do. But with The Voyage, I love it anywhere: front, back, middle. It's just an amazing, awesome coaster to me, and the intensity is part of what endears it to me, rather than puts me off! I only hold both hands up when I'm going over the airtime hills, the rest of the time I hold on with my inner side hand, and put the hand on the outer side in the air. While riding it 20 times over the course of Holiwood Nights this year, and riding it this way, I realized it did a pretty good job of simulating what I imagine riding a bucking bronco or bull would be like! The diversity of opinion regarding The Voyage once again just goes to show how subjective, rather than objective, everything about the coaster riding experience is! Different coasters hit every person differently, based on that particular individual. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
First off, props to the creator of the Valravn layout! It does look great (color aside - sorry, couldn't resist!), and would be an excellent addition to CP. I do fear, however, that you may have spoiled us for the actual coaster when it's announced! (Not to mention, we are all still making a big assumption that the 2016 ride WILL actually be a Dive Coaster, and not a dark ride/coaster hybrid...) When it comes to CP, I've noticed enthusiasts tend to blow things out of proportion one way or the other a lot of times. I think your opinions of MF, Magnum, and GateKeeper are representative of that. MF is a mindblowing, amazing coaster, that rides just as awesome now, as it did when it debuted 15 years ago! Every non-enthusiast I've ever ridden it with comes off with that opinion of it. Why it gets de-valued in many enthusiast circles is beyond me, but it is what it is. GateKeeper as well is often misconstrued as forceless, which I can understand given how smooth and methodical it is. Still, it's a great coaster, really fun, and like you, my favorite coaster at CP behind MF and Maverick! Magnum is an example of the opposite. Enthusiasts tend to love it FOR its violent ejector air, while non-enthusiasts I've been on it with, come away with either negative impressions (like your brother), or just "Yeah, that was a really good coaster, but not great", like myself, and apparently you. Maverick is as you say it is! The exception to my first comment above. Pretty much everybody, enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike, can agree that Maverick is a fantastic, and supremely fun coaster! Cedar Point really outdid themselves with the creation of this gem! Also, YES to Blue Streak! That old, little coaster, seems to be MORE fun every time I ride it. A classic, great, out and back wooden coaster! Regarding the coasters you missed, you didn't miss much... They were both my favorite coaster at the park at one point, but that point was back in the 80's, when I wasn't even double digits in age yet. My kids today like them, but that's essentially what they are. Bigger "kiddie coasters", that make for fun family riding when a kid is getting acclimated to bigger coasters. I wouldn't lose sleep over missing them! (Especially since you are 6'4" - you would have been VERY uncomfortable in their small trains! I'm 5'9", and find CCMR uncomfortable!) Glad you had a great time, and could finally make it out to this great park! -

Such an exciting looking coaster! I am so glad I had already planned KK into our family vacation to Pigeon Forge next year, so I'll be able to hit two brand new RMC coasters on that trip! I just showed my 11 year old son, and the look on his face afterwords was priceless! Needless to say, he's pretty stoked as well! Well done, KK and RMC! That park has really turned into a major player in a hurry!

^As a Michigander, I have to disagree with a lot of what you said here! Not only do I believe MiA does have room for growth, and will grow incrementally over the years, the state has been doing better financially as of late. Detroit is actually seeing a lot of revitalization, and the West side of the state, where MiA is located, is actually much more affluent than the East side. Plus, MiA is allegedly CF's most profitable park, so I rather doubt they're on the chopping block - at least not for financial reasons. -

Another thought I just had of a coaster type that hasn't gotten much thought lately, but would be a good fit there, would be a coaster similar to Xcelerator at Knotts. It wouldn't even need to be that long, just a Kingda Ka that is around 205 feet. Not only would it be a thrilling coaster, which would attract customers, they would have successfully stolen nearby Sea World's thunder by besting Mako in both height and speed. A coaster like that would take up a small footprint, so it's plausible for that area. Just a thought... -

I'm from Michigan and live in Michigan and everyone hates them. They've been slowly shutting down. Thank goodness! The one in Lansing shut down as well, though they are still all over Detroit. I DO NOT get the allure, though some friends of mine swear by them! Terrible, terrible... whatever you call that crap between the buns! Oh, and for the record (since this IS the Fun Spot thread), I loved this park (the Orlando one) when I went a couple of years ago! I took my oldest two kids, as well as my sister, and we all had a blast! White Lightning is in my Top 5 wooden coasters, and I could ride that all day (nearly did, got in 18 rides I think!) It was my daughter's first non-kiddie coaster, and she loved it as well - rode it 10+ times herself! I will definitely be back whenever we go to the Orlando area, and getting new additions only makes it more exciting to look forward to! -
Exactly my thoughts. I actually rode KK before TTD so it's possible that has influenced the way I rank them but I don't think that's why I enjoy it more. Like you said, the OTSR didn't bother me, I could feel the extra speed (unlike the height) and, for some reason it just feels quite a bit more intense. It's one of the few rides that (when ridden in the front) made me go: "Holy f$#k! That was so intense!!" while TTD doesn't quite produce the same effect, for some reason (which I actually find odd as they are so similar) I'm totally with you guys as well, in spite of having ridden TTD a ton over the years! I rode it with my dad (who is in his 60's), and he too felt it was better than TTD. I know we're a small group with this opinion, but I barely noticed the OTSR, and could tell a difference in the speed. Add in the extra hill instead of a brake run, and you have a winner in my book!
