Maverick vs Millennium Force
DILinator replied to ImNotOneOfYou's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
All of this. I've never really been able to definitively put Maverick over MF, but I also don't feel quite right putting it under it either. Both are absolutely awesome, and I put MF over Maverick in rankings only due to seniority! -

Plot twist! It's a B&M Dive Coaster named Centurion! -
Worst Coaster Ever?
DILinator replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No! Say it ain't so! Riding Ragin Cajun at SFGAm a couple of years ago was some of the most pure fun, I've ever had on a coaster before! My brother-in-law and I were overcome with laughter riding that thing! -

I "believe" it will be a dark ride, because that's the easiest way to avoid being disappointed if it's not a major coaster! This way, if it does indeed end up being the coaster, I'll be elated! Regarding the land clearing, I've always thought that the land being cleared, was actually going to be for both the major coaster, AND the Triotech dark ride. One coming in 2016, and one in 2017. My biggest question is which year for which. I definitely agree that I'd be shocked if a coaster does not reside within the boundaries of that walled-off area at some point before too long! I have not read the actual panels on the wall, as I haven't been to CP since early in the season. If that's what it says, it could still technically be referring to a ride like WMG, which is still considered a coaster. Just sayin'... I hope you're right, and it IS a coaster. -
What is your next park?
DILinator replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think I mentioned this earlier in this thread, but that was last month sometime. Now, it's tomorrow! Michigan's Adventure! Taking my kids there for the first time, so that's pretty exciting! -
I rode Arkansas Twister a number of times back when it was Florida Hurricane at Boardwalk & Baseball! Believe it or not, for many years, it was probably my favorite/best wooden coaster I had ridden! This brings up an interesting (and controversial) question for you all... If I ever get down to ride Arkansas Twister, I don't plan on counting it as a new coaster. What is the prevailing thought regarding riding relocated coasters, and coaster counts? (I know, I'm such a troublemaker! )

The Official TPR Video Thread!
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry in advance for the double-post... I was watching one of your TPR videos on Youtube, and my 1 year old was really fascinated with it. So I put on another for him to watch, and just let it to go... With the auto-run feature going, it's now been rolling through your videos for well over an hour, regardless of whether somebody's been watching or not (I always enjoy coaster-noise in the background!) Assuming that you get some sort of monetization out of your TPR videos being viewed, you're welcome! -

Look, I REALLY want this to be a coaster too! But I DO NOT get the "obviously it's a coaster, duh!" vibe from anything I've seen yet. Assuming there is a coaster element to the dark ride (Like WMG), even the wall procession could be pointing to it. What do you think sounds more "Historic", and EPIC - grabbing the attention of everybody, not just coaster enthusiasts... "Announcing, Cedar Point's first immersive dark ride and roller coaster experience!" Or... "Announcing the world's highest, fastest, and longest Dive Coaster!" Again, I want this to be a coaster, but I've seen nothing yet to make me certain it will be, and plenty to give me doubts that it will be. Quote from this article: http://www.latimes.com/travel/themeparks/la-trb-cedar-fair-dark-rides-20150415-story.html I think we're looking at a coaster and no dark ride, for 2016 at least. Fair enough... I just hope this isn't another classic amusement park misdirection! Assuming that CP doesn't get its "Amusement Dark" ride until 2017 or later (I'd guess 2018, at the latest), does anybody else think that the coliseum building could potentially be in play for the location of the attraction? I know they wouldn't likely want to remove the hardwood floor on the second level from the old dance hall, but do you think it's still a feasible option? -

^^Not to continue to be the bringer of disappointing (for most, at least) possibilities, but "Historic" doesn't necessarily mean "record breaking." It could be referring to bringing back a part of history - ie. a dark ride, particularly an homage to the Pirate Ride. Honestly, breaking records just doesn't seem like reason enough to say "Historic"... Having said that, this really is succeeding at amping me up for the announcement, which is, obviously, their intent! -

This is why I think it isn't going to be a Dark ride. Why would they be teasing the entire summer just to switch it? Don't forget: Wonder Mountain's Guardian IS considered a coaster... -

It's almost like I could have written these parts of your Trip Report! You pretty much summed up my thoughts about those rides! And yes - I'm glad to know my Wife and I are not alone regarding our thoughts about how great, and underrated, Great Bear is! Hersheypark is truly one of the great ones! Every time I read TR's about it, it just makes me wish even more I had a trip planned to go there ASAP! Thanks for sharing! (Yes, I know every sentence ended in an exclamation point, but a)I often type in an excited manner, and b)Hersheypark makes me THAT excited! ) -

See, I had quite the opposite response. There's nothing in Valravn folklore or legend about water, or lightning. On top of that, the font for CP2016 looks distinctly "pirate-esque" to me. Couple that with pirates going along with darkness, and an open sea, and when I saw that I immediately thought it must not be the Valravn coaster. I see how the water could not matter regarding the theme (other than to represent CP being on a peninsula?), and the script could be medieval possibly too. But my initial reaction was that it looked more piratical, than mythological Danish beast... Just to be clear - I'd prefer it to be Valravn, so hopefully you're right! -

I'm telling you - it's a pirate themed dark ride/coaster! Seriously, this has been my underlying feeling about CP 2016 for a while now, with a new coaster coming 2017. I know somebody said earlier the Oiumet said no dark rides in 2016, but I've not seen that quote, personally. So, if somebody could produce it and post it here, that would be helpful. Of course, even if he DID say it, honestly, it's not like amusement park operators never "lie" about coming attractions, you know! -
Photo TR: Elissa's first visit to Lagoon!
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I recommend including it in a multiple destination road trip. Fly out the SW. Pick 3-4 stops over a week and include Lagoon. End up on the California beach! There are too many things to see and experience in the desert just to fly out for one amusement park, IMO. Sounds good! I have family in Ft. Collins, so I could fly out to visit them, drive to Lagoon afterward, then drive to Vegas, before ending up in LA, where I can visit my brother before flying back. Definitely has potential! -
Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to OzCatter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^Cool picture! Interestingly enough, if you go to Google Street View for Worlds of Fun, it's from August 2011, before the go-Kart's removal, and addition of Steel Hawk and you can see the back of that building - minus the paddlewheel and Worlds of Fun sign. If you go where Steel Hawk currently is (on the satellite view), and drop the stret view there, you'll see what I mean. At that point, it was painted a "racetrack" checkered flag theme to go with the go-Karts. What's interesting is that from the Satellite view, you really can see how that area is designed to be an entrance plaza, complete with circular design, and fountain in the middle. I do find it curious that this much better entrance area was done away with for the very-much "backdoor look" they are currently utilizing. I too would love further explanation as to why this was done. Also, did the parking lot use to be in that area that is now all grass between Worlds of Fun Ave., and Steel Hawk? -

I dunno...I actually think SheiKra is a pretty good ride from start to end. I think a good way to describe it is short, but sweet! Dive Machine wouldn't be my first choice for CP, but if that's what they end up getting, I'll be plenty excited! I've only been on ShieKra, but it was definitely fun! -
