  1. No, they have teased all of their major coaster announcements differently, which is exactly what I'd expect them to do! Mix it up, keep things interesting, and most of all, keep people guessing!
  2. I can't help but get the feeling that CP is gearing up to make their announcement this weekend, as they want to get their name and new attraction out there before Dollywood announces, and theirs potentially knocks CP's back some in prominence. Maybe not, but this webcam move seems to indicate something's up!
  3. Imagine Dragons at The Palace of Auburn Hills, June 21st! Great show! I am particularly stoked about seeing my favorite band on September 19th, Twenty one pilots! Awesome band with unique music that puts on the best concert show I've seen! This'll be my third time! Can't wait!
  4. GR had about 6 good years, then pretty rapidly went downhill in the following 3. I figured out that I rode it early in 2005, so that would be right around that 6 year mark. It must have been the beginning of that end at that point... I'm not saying it was smooth, then, but I remember still enjoying it! Hopefully they can do something to restore it to at least a semblance of its former glory!
  5. Hey! I just noticed that either yesterday, or today, Google Maps updated their satellite image of SFGAm, as it now includes Goliath instead of the vacant Iron Wolf spot! Now, they just needs to get down in there and get a Street View tour of the park!
  6. It's a shame to hear that GhostRider has apparently gotten so bad. I don't remember the exact year I rode it, but at that time I really enjoyed the ride! However, hearing that it is a similar situation to what happened with The Villain, I can understand what it must be like now... I rode that back in 2003, and it was already pretty rough and uncomfortable to me at that point. I suspect GhostRider must have maintained its viability a little better than that quick turnaround at least...
  7. I voted yes, but I could go either way on it. I am one, who does regularly check the /r/rollercoasters subreddit, and post there as well when so inclined, in addition to regularly checking out a few musical artist subreddits too. So if TPR were there, adding another subreddit to peruse, and participate in when appropriate, I would not be opposed, nor think that was a bad thing! However, I think all the points people have brought up regarding not having one there, are reasonable, and valid as well. So, like I said, I could go either way with it, and it's really a matter of how much work you want to put into it, vs. how much benefit TPR as a whole will gain from that ambitious endeavor. This site is very easy to use, has a nice look and "feel" to it, and by comparison Reddit isn't nearly as nice of a "venue" for conversation (IMHO.) As others have mentioned, the need for moderation of anti-TPR trolls will be a pretty intense aspect of it, I'd have to guess. The vitriol I have seen over at /r/rollercoasters towards TPR is pretty extreme, and while everybody there seems to have their "reasons", as a neutral observer it still seems a bit over the top! It's definitely turned me off to posting there as much... At any rate, I would expect them to flock to a TPR subreddit guns blazing, trying their best to shout it down before it gets started. Sure, you can pre-ban the people you know to be offenders, but they'll just create new accounts just for the purpose of trolling, and it will become a very labor intensive weeding-out process. With all that negativity flowing, it may be difficult to attract new people to the subreddit, and keep them there long-term. I guess if that inevitable battle is one you're willing to fight to blaze this trail, then I'd say go for it, and let's see what happens. However, with a nice presence already between this site, Facebook, and Youtube (and any other social media outlets that you may be on), you may want to just ignore reddit, as it seems like viper's nest of anti-TPR animosity. Besides, I can't imagine there are actually that many people out there who are "enthusiastic" enough about our hobby to want to talk about it online, that aren't at least aware of TPR already, thanks to your large internet presence, and wouldn't just come here to post if they felt so inclined. So, that's my perpective, as somebody who does indeed utilize both this forum and reddit...
  8. ^ 12 years? A drop in the bucket! Try 17 years and counting!
  9. This makes sense to me, as that's pretty much how I feel about it! It was so much better the first visit I rode it (them) than the second visit! And then of course, by my third visit, it was all over but the crying...
  10. I've been to SFGAdv more times than any other amusement park other than Cedar Point and Michigan's Adventure, as I have family that lives over in Lavallette. So, I really enjoy the park, and always look forward to returning! So, I have a question about The Chiller... I see you refer to it as a "tragedy" here. Does that mean you didn't like it? If so, was this the general attitude that many locals had about it? It's not often that coasters simply get removed after 10 years, so something (besides maintenance) was clearly amiss... I really liked the coaster, and it was my favorite ride there after my first visit to the park in the 90's! I still enjoyed it in 2003 when I returned as well (though I preferred Nitro more, at that point!) I'm just curious what your impression as locals is regarding this unique, and ultimately doomed coaster... That idea sounds pretty cool to me as well, and given that price tag, certainly doable! One question: Is there a reason you'd want Premier, rather than Intamin, to manufacture the coasters?
  11. Wow! This beast is just getting more and more amazing! I'm so bummed, that as much as I've tried to crunch the numbers, I simply can't afford to fly out there at this time... Have a blast though guys! Just scream "This ride's for DILinator!" during one of your flips through the zero-g rolls, and I'll be with you in spirit!
  12. I believe the bags would be under the front of the ride vehicle, and you go through the inversions so fast, they aren't a danger to fall out. I still remember the first time I rode the Rockin' Roller Coaster at Disney's MGM Studios (at the time)... I had no idea what the ride was, and it had only lap bars, so I didn't figure it went upside down. My wife and I had those Disney spray-fans in our vehicle with us, near our feet, and when the coaster started inverting, we freaked out a little because the fans were bouncing around down there! We definitely weren't expecting that!
  13. A Giga seems like a great idea for SFGAdv, but I agree that I doubt it's what's coming... Funny you should mention the JL:BFM, because after I posted all of that, I got to thinking about that very thing! Both that Movie Town is somewhat barren currently, and how much one of those would really perk that area up! Here was my thought, though... What if they were able to re-purpose the old B&R building, which they never took out (for some reason), put a Hall of Justice facade on it, and then work in the tower off to the side somehow? Or maybe that would be for the dueling launched coaster you mentioned, and the JL:BFM would be where the right stuff theater is (or maybe where Stuntman's Freefall was?) I feel like they must have kept the B&R buildings around all these years with the thought of re-using them someday... At any rate, all of that seems more likely than my Giga idea, but it doesn't really answer what they're going to add on the lakefront...
  14. Yup, you can actually see it IS a Chance Revolution in the image! It was just obscured a little at first. I love those rides, so a themed one definitely sounds great!
  15. It kind of sounds like a Huss Frisbee variant to me... Maybe facing inward, with some kind of themed presentation you're looking at? You're right, Robb... It's VERY ambiguous in that Press Release!
  16. Wow! That's pretty surprising! It was easily the longest line in the park the day I went earlier this year! I don't think I would mind it as much if I got to walk on when riding!
  17. First off: Baseless speculation ahead! You've been warned! So, I was killing time the other day, and thinking about what Great Adventure might be getting next year. From following along in here for a little while, and checking out other rumors, it seems most think this will be a smaller sized addition, a 4D Free Spin at most. However, with this being one of Six Flags' premier parks, and especially with it having seen so many removals rather than additions in recent years, I couldn't help but think they were due for a large addition. Thinking "bigger", I checked out the park on Google Maps, and noticed something that I found interesting... The closed off area on the lakefront which is obviously where at least part of the attraction is going, is almost a straight shot to the cleared out area where Rolling Thunder when down towards Kingda Ka. This got me thinking... Would SFGAdv possibly be putting in a Giga Coaster, potentially to break the record Fury set this year? Possibly a B&M, but I suspect an Intamin might be more likely. Either way, using my rough estimates, I calculated that if an Intamin Giga, with a cable lift straight out of the station went about about 330 feet, it would descend right about where the fountain is in the water between El Toro and Runaway Mine Train. From there, another hill going up and to the left on a diagonal would take the coaster over the midway, past El Diablo, and into the area where Rolling Thunder used to be. The coaster could potentially go all the way back towards Kingda Ka,utilizing the cut-out in the structure of El Toro that Rolling Thunder did even. There's tons of room for twisty sections, and airtime hills. I envision it coming back over the midways towards the station on a number of bunny hops. That seems like the most problematic part of my potential layout, but it doesn't seem impossible. Ok, so it's probably way too fanciful to be at all likely, but it's a thought at least (like I said, I was bored, and enjoy envisioning coasters for parks!) The bottom line is, what do you think the possibility is of a Giga coaster being the 2016 addition? Also, do you think SFGAdv will put something in that vacated Rolling Thunder area at some point, potentially even with attraction 2016? Personally, with that lakefront spot there, I would love a launched B&M wing coaster that goes out over the water, interacts with the Saw Mill Log Flume, before returning completely over the water! But I'm a big fan of coasters over water, particularly of the Flying, Floorless, or Inverted variety. Actually, a Giga that goes out over the lake, shares land with the Log Flume, and even goes out to the wooded area near the Safari before returning is probably even more plausible than my previous location for it! Who knows... Maybe I'm thinking WAY too big... But I've always felt like GAdv is the East coast (and NYC) crown jewel of the Six Flags chain, much like SFMM is the flag bearer for the West coast, and LA market (and SFGAm is for the central, Chi-Town market.) With both of those parks getting some banner additions in recent years, it just seems like GAdv is due for something BIG! Let me know your thoughts... I'm curious what you regulars have heard, and or would guess from a closer knowledge of the park, and its workings.
  18. I'm pretty sure if I crashed my car into it a few times it would break!
  19. I actually spent a lot of time in Flint back in the 90's, but the park was long closed by then. The domed structure was still up for part of my time there, however, and it was a strange sight to behold, abandoned and alone in the middle of nothing there in downtown!
  20. Wow! Wicked Cyclone looks AMAZING, so that's high praise indeed! I believe it though... Fury was at first ride for me - and I'm no spring chicken when it comes to coasters!
  21. ^^^ and ^^ That makes sense! I always saw that, and found it amusing that it had happened again! Of course, not so amusing if you're stuck on the train with the idiot who pulled out his phone...
  22. ^Very nice Hydra video! I know it seems a lot of people don't care for the ride much, but Hydra still remains a Top 5, U.S., non-RMC, bucket list coaster for me!
  23. I don't know how it's doing now that it's Rougarou, but I do recall seeing Mantis stopped on the lift hill a TON over the years - definitely more times than I've ever seen any other coaster stopped on the lift hill!
  24. I assume it is pretty standard BBQ fare: pulled pork, brisket, ribs, stuff like that...? Definitely sounds good to me! EDIT: NVM... I just noticed online that it says what they serve, and it looks like the BBQ is used more to refer to stuff that gets grilled on a BBQ grill, as opposed to BBQ food - except for the chicken. Still has the potential to be pretty good though!
  25. Sounds pretty good! Like you, I don't drink Bud Light (or any domestics, personally), so I was curious about what craft beers they might have on tap, since I know there's plenty of good options from the West side of the state! Oh, I missed that. Thanks for pointing it out. I only want to spend on one big (non-snack) meal for the day, but I'd be willing to spend more, if it was a substantive meal! I know what Coasters serves, and I'm not teribly impressed... Thanks for your input!
