PortAventura Discussion Thread
blk_mamba replied to Shockwave's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think that does look like it would be a park for the track that would give riders a rough ride. If there are some adjustment that needs to be made they still have to do a pull through test where they test every part of the ride for clearances. If there are some part of the track that need work it should be done before that test but certainly after. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
blk_mamba replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Cedar Points formula of un-themed record breaking rides does not translate well into log flumes. That 12 million dollars could have been a used for so many other things. I for one have never rode the ride and the after its accident I never felt the desire to ride. One great thing is it will free up 2-3 acres of space which is huge for Cedar Point. lol -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
blk_mamba replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If anything, I find posts like this IMMENSELY more annoying and bitchy sounding than any post where someone suggests ways the ride could have been improved. Nobodies bitching except you. Merely supposing an alternative to "what is" is discussing roller coaster ideas on a roller coaster forum. Get over yourselves, the over-dramatics are absurd. I don't think there's a person on this forum that wouldn't take a ride on Valverononemomenener anyway, so I don't understand why anybody's getting their panties in a bunch. You are bitching about him bitching! People are upset the model is not something new. Personally I think it is pretty cool that Cedar Point is going to be trying to get the entire catalog: Winged, Floorless, Invert, Dive. Only thing they need is the a Flyer and a Hyper. Valravn ties them for second most B&M's in one park. I am scared to look but were people complaining this much when Banshee was installed? It seemed to go over pretty well for the King's Island. Banshee was not a revolutionary ride system and people did not push back this much. However at the end of the day Cedar Point is Cedar Point and everything they install is supposed to be ground breaking. Breaking every relevant record is not enough for a ride in that park. lol. -

My GP friend that I drag to the park with me almost shit his pants when He saw the drop and he got it instantly. When he was saw the holding break he said "that is just wrong, the drop is scary enough" lol. Back to more coaster boy-esque questions. I wonder if the hold break and the break run before the second drop are designed to lower the stress on the track. -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
blk_mamba replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Carowinds is really getting a significant investment. They were not playing when they said they wanted to make Carowinds the Cedar Point of the south. An investment like that in flat rides along with their other new rides coming to the park will help with capacity significantly. -
Didnt they announce Mako before the season started? I agree with your point and Sea World may be different b/c it is a year long park. I wouldn't be surprised if they dragged this one for the next few months and announced around memorial day. Announcing early I don't think effects the number as much as people think. These marketing campaigns are really for us hardcore fans that make out of market trips.

I think the based on the time and they way they said "the drop" it appears they are building some roller coaster that will be big and expensive. My money is on a B&M winged rider that will use that the terrain, and have some great near misses. I don't think they will be getting a record breaker but they will get something that is reliable, beautiful and integrates well.

SeaWorld seems to have been doing some very peculiar things with release dates. Tempesto was basically never released and treated like the big Elephant in the room that went up while Busch Gardens denied they were even building a roller coaster. While not announcing your ride over the off season seems like it makes no sense at least a park can say they wanted to maximize the impact and start an ad campaign that with a short turn around time. A year later Sea World Orlando announce Mako for 2015 before the peak summer season even started which some say is too early. I feel like the SeaWorld parks are in a step above Six Flags and Cedar Fair and a step below Disney and Universal. The two big dogs make announcements when they want for projects 2-5 years out. Maybe SeaWorld views themselves more like a Disney or Universal and thinks their numbers are teflon tough. I feel like Sea World needs needs to tease this out more. I was going to go BGW b/c hey have Tempsesto and I hear it more fun than it looks. Maybe I'll wait til 2017. I know something big is coming.

Astroworld TR, October 2005

Great pictures thanks for posting this. It is strange that Houston is one of the biggest metros areas in the United States and is only growing. This park reminds me very much of my sad home park Six Flags America that is also in a major metro area but just doesn't get the love from Six Flags... I know they had issues with parking however the market is so big I am shocked that someone has not jumped on the market. I think I heard some where that Houston's closest park is three hours away. Cedar Fair or Disney or maybe someone new that wants to enter the market like Merlin should build something that is north of Houston or maybe right in between that triangle of San Antonio, Houston and Dallas. It would be a bold move to enter Six Flags backyard but they have so many quality issues it wouldn't be hard to come into the market and create a park that is open almost year round that is known as a higher quality experience. -
Maybe you need to leave a few more days and come back b/c I don't see all hell broke loose over the color change, from what I've seen it's welcomed. As is the name change, I've seen more people saying the original Total Mayhem name was lame and the colors being compared to Twix and McDonald's so yeah that's my suggestion js I think that is the whole point of a site like TPR. I like the freakout, dialogue, discussion, or what ever you frame it about the name change and color change. Where else can one have a discussion like that if not TPR? What makes TPR, TPR is that there are group of people that care about talking about the nuances and details about a park, or in this case roller coaster.

Ride Duration Times
blk_mamba replied to bontempsjeff's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I feel like an action packed two minutes is enough for me for a coaster. Id rather a short action packed coaster over a longer coaster will alot of dull moments. I'll provide an exemption for some of the older wooden coaster like Beast @ Kings Island. I don't mind longer wood coaster that take you into the woods. -
I wonder why the late change? The Joker is more marketable, though over used. I wish that they would give more theming for the roller coaster. There are so many things they could do, so many missed opportunities. I am salivating thinking about an interactive que themed to the Jokers hideout. I feel like Six Flags has just diluted the DC brand so much. Marvel was smart to get in with Universal Studios and then Disney. Super man and Green Lantern on one side---- Bizzaro in the back------ Joker in the middle---- Batman the ride and Dark Knight on the other side. It is so obvious there is no plan, rhyme or reason. They should just retheme the park Six Flags: DC Universe. I also am curious why the late change? Total Mayhem seemed like a generic code name but why slap an IP on it so late? Normally IP are removed not added. Ah well. They have so many DC properties spread all over that park.

Where Are You Going in 2016?
blk_mamba replied to ytterbiumanalyst's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Parks I want to get to again Cedar Point Hershey Park Kings Dominion Busch Gardens Six Flags Great Adventure Parks I want to go to for the first time Kings Island Knotts Berry Farm Disneyland Disney's California Adventure Six Flags Magic Mountain Parks I'd go to but I am not committed to Dorney Park Six Flags America -
Last time I went the ride ops werent' the problem-- it was the operations that was the killer for me. Part of the reason why parks like CP do so well is b/c their operations are so solid. They move people in and out quickly b/c they are running at full capacity. I remember reading something on the boards about how Cedar Point took a third train offline for Millenium Force, they fixed the train and put the train back on at with like a hour left of operations. The first thing I thought was that would never happen at SFA.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
blk_mamba replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
We agree on most of these points. Looking objectively from a operations standpoint no ride is safe is it is has low ridership and high maintenance cost. For example one day it may be more cost efficient to just replace the Cedar Creek mine train even it is with another family coaster or another mine train. The part may become hard to find or manufacture. Ridership may be low. The ride maybe become rough. Maybe I am in the minority but Gemini doesn't do anything for me. I get its a great family coaster but I feel like it can be replaced with another great family roller coaster. It may have been a record breaker but is it world first like Magnum, Force and Dragster? I agree with a post from earlier though it seems like some of those older 1950's woodies are just built to last even though at this point I wonder how much of the Blue Streak coaster is original. Either way -
