Knoebels Discussion Thread
LiftThrill replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Knoebels on paper looks like an average little park, if they truly run all the flats at full speed then that's already an A+ in my book. Two awesome wooden coasters is just the cherry on top. Then throw in good food at an amazing price? I'm sold. Speaking of little parks with good wooden coasters I really need to go back to ZDT's, the place rocks. -

Have you ridden Outlaw Run? BD and El Toro are both ridiculously high on my bucket list and I'm interested to see how they compare to Outlaw Run since it's currently my favorite woodie. -

Arrow loopers are so weird. You'd think they'd all be the same for the same people, but it's definitely not the case. Most people hate Vortex @ KI and love Tennessee Tornado @ Dollywood, but I was definitely the other way around. No pain on Vortex, but some serious shoulder/neck wreckage on TT. Corkscrew @ CP was somewhere in the middle but since the layout is garbage and it's an early Arrow looper, it's not really worth mentioning as anything but a point of comparison. -

Two words: Powder Keg. Screamin' Eagle comes to mind before Powder Keg imo, but yeah that too Powder Keg was marketed as a family coaster. Screamin' Eagle was marketed as the tallest, fastest, longest coaster in the world. Yeah but Eagle has the 42" height requirement and when I was at SFStL all the kids at the park wanted to ride it. It may have not started that way but it certainly is a family coaster now. -
What do you all mean by "staple"? To push the restraints in so much that the rider cannot move at all. This depends on a number of factors, and the biggest variable is of course the rider. Maybe a rider is of a size that the first locking point still leaves a lot of room. Some ride ops will push until it hits that second locking point just to be sure, and perhaps for this rider that's pushing up against them. That rider would be said to be stapled. They'll be safe, but may not enjoy the ride very much. I have been stapled before, and it's not the most pleasant thing ever for sure. But I personally would rather err on the side of safety, and generally all parks will. Stapling is the reason hydraulic restraints are so awesome. No click system, just goes down to where it should be. Ratcheting restraints are weird because some of them lock in different positions depending on the seat, which I've always found odd but understandable.

#itllopen Seriously though it's awesome to see they're finally getting LR into shape to be operable consistently. After the plague of problems and media bs, now they can finally get the finishing touches done and get this badass ride open! -
^I'm the same way with enjoying coasters, there are only 5 coasters I really can't stand and Titan is one of them. The others are exclusively Arrow and Vekoma, although there are Arrows and Vekomas I have liked (shoutout to Vortex and Invertigo, both at Kings Island). I've enjoyed every mine train, rough woodie, and kiddie coaster I've been on. A ride has to really stand out for me to dislike it.

Man, did Titan murder your entire family? Holy moly yes. yes it did. (no, it just sucks lol) Being serious, ShockWave is a bad candidate. Nitro is a bad candidate. DDD is a bad candidate. Superman/Bizarro is a bad candidate. Raging Bull is a bad candidate. Ninja at SFStL is probably the best VR candidate that's been chosen. If they're going to ruin capacity for a ride, may as well ruin capacity for a sucky ride that the VR will actually make slightly not terrible. In fact, of all of the rides, that's the only one where the VR actually makes me want to ride it. I intentionally skipped Ninja while at SFStL because I'd heard terrible things about it, and the VR makes me almost want to ride it. Titan's probably a terrible candidate as well because the headache would get even worse because of the VR, but at least it would make the ride more interesting. I personally think the top candidates are Arrow and Vekoma loopers, stuff like Boomerangs, SLCs, Arrow megaloopers like Vortex and Viper, etc. These rides have a ton of VR potential and aren't too interesting without the VR, but not too small (like mine trains) where the target audience of the ride probably wouldn't use it either. Obviously I don't control Six Flags, but I can voice my opinion that it seems like they're choosing their VR rides without much thought and sort of sporadically (some of them are top tier rides at their park, some are bottom tier, etc). It seems experimental at best. Let's just hope that's what it is, an experiment. Or that the ride crews learn how to efficiently operate a ride with VR. But that'll never happen.

Only one of SDC's coasters is S&S, and it's Powder Keg. And half that ride isn't even S&S anyway. Also, let me just say that I massively preferred SDC to Magic Kingdom. The setting is better, the theming is just as good imo, the rides are better, and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get in. I liked WDW, don't get me wrong, but SDC was so much more fun to me. Maybe it's just me idk

I have been on one Giovanola and it was great. I loved it and it was super fun. It was Shockwave at Drayton Manor. That's actually an Intamin. -

^ I actually love hangtime after strong MCBRs. That's just about the only thing I like about Titan, actually. -

I enjoyed FoF more than Poltergeist because the disorientation actually works. There were points when I couldn't tell which way it was going and going into the brake run I legit thought we were sideways. It was hilarious. -

Granted I haven't been in years but I like Goliath, my only gripe is the MCBR and it's to short. Maybe Goliath is better than Titan. Titan is legitimately my least favorite coaster. Can't stand the thing. -

Smoothest Coaster You've Ridden?
LiftThrill replied to TheDark8's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A lesson I still haven't learned lol. I usually ride the front row first and if it seems smooth I'll give a wheel seat a shot (except Raven where it was pretty much rough everywhere) I can take a beating, and the only coaster that really gave it to me was Gemini in the back row. Even The Boss/Raven weren't as bad as that. Even then I recovered about 5 minutes later. Still have yet to ride a coaster that's both rough and unbearably bad. -

Yeah I'm almost sure it's a wheel seat thing. I'll stick to the front though lol -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Sure, but GCI has never done any coasters the size of Mean Streak. In fact, the only one they've done that's a significant amount over 100 feet is Wodan. The rest of the big GCIs are around ~105. Plus, if it's anything like what they did to The Legend then it'll make it slightly smoother in the reprofiled areas and not do much at all. All the coasters that have been getting GCI work done lately are coasters with layouts similar to GCI, and Dinn Corp's style was incredibly different from GCI. Would I be surprised at GCI refurb of Mean Streak? Probably not. Would it really make the ride that much better? Probably not.
