  1. I think the "looping slide" he's refering to is actually a Proslide Tornado. I've looked up the site already and there is no looping slide there.
  2. Being as we seem to have a "Speedslide Phobia", here's a well themed one. It goes through a clear tube in shark infested water as part of the runout section.
  3. I got somewhat terrified on a waterslide 3 years ago. We all took a trip up to WaterWorld Concord and I was a bit unsure of riding Cliffhanger, their speed slides. The slide has a long enclosed straightaway before it's open sudden drop. I finally got the guts to go on it. As I start my off, everything's going good. Now, normally I do not swear but this ride got it out of me. I'm cruising along the straightaway like nothing's happening and suddenly, I see daylight as everything seemed to drop out from under me. First words out of my mouth: "Oh Sh*t!!!" Some friends heard me echo back through the tube as though I was right next to them saying it. It really wasn't all that scary other than the fact that nothing's holding you down other than gravity. Yes, I got off with a decent wedgie and a stinging back. Second one, not really scared but was really intense, try riding a double tube slide with a 300 pound person. We were flying down that thing having some major wall time and airtime. We hit the pool going much faster than the tube would have allowed us to go. Pretty much, we hit the pool without the tube and he landed on top of me as I'm stuck under water...that sucked. I'm really a bit unsure of those enclosed body slides because of my body size and how narrow those tubes are. It's not like I"m overweight but it doesn't look like it's the right size for an adult's bodysize. I'll stick with the innertube enclosed slides...atleast there's space.
  4. Actually, that doesn't sound like a bad idea. For a casual coaster rider, they see that it's just a large roller coaster (well, a hypercoaster). When they go on it, it's like "Yea...I've ridden ones with the same height...no different" and are taken off guard as they fly down a 400 foot drop underground. The reason why this probably has not happened is the fact that there would be a lot of digging. Not just that, but if they did so, figure 200 feet into the ground with a hole bored through for a coaster. I'd think there would have to be a lot of support for that tunnel to hold up in the ground. Lastly, if there's an earthquake, that ride is screwed. I think digging costs are probably the barrier here.
  5. I much prefer the bathroom at my house. Who knows what's living in public restrooms.
  6. www.nolimitscoaster.com Do yourself a big favor and download the demo. If the demo runs, so will the full version...exactly the same. You can switch to different views while in the sim from switching seats, switching trains, to fly view to look at your coaster from a distance. Just try the demo first to see if it runs and if everything's running ok, (I'm sure it will) then you can get the full version.
  7. Besides hearing other stupid people at parks, what were some of your newbiest thoughts when you became interested in coasters? Mine would have to be back when MarineWorld first added it's coasters. I got a post card advert thingy in the mail shortly after a trip to so cal (KBF, DLR, USH) and rode my first Boomerang. On the post card, they had a picture of Boomerang. My first thoughts were "OMG...they're copying off of KBF!" but I didn't realize the idea of Vekoma clones. Even earlier, I was browsing the Six Flags website and saw Six Flags Great America. First thought: "Why is Six Flags copying off of our Great America...right down to the layout of the park?" It wasn't until later I realized PGA and SFGAm were "Sister parks" in the past.
  8. I sometimes tend to add the extra "The" to names of rides such as "The Vortex," "The Boomerang" (Well, I'm more refering to it's model than it's name), or "The Grizzly." Most of the rides it does sound kinda weird to say "The Medusa" or "The Vertical Velocity." It was funny last week when I brought my laptop into a church youth program to run the powerpoint setup. During my waiting time, I loaded up No Limits and had it projected on the big screen. I loaded up V2 and some kids in the back started doing the motions with the raising the hands and moving bodies ect. Next thing, they're saying "Hey, that's Kong (SFMW) and then a few more guesses then I hear "No, wait...It's V2!" and then another comes up to me. They asked me if that was Roller Coaster Factory. I told them that it was No Limits.
  9. Win a live baby for 50 cents! http://www.dvorak.org/blog/?p=2026 This happened the other day (It was in last Sunday's paper here and I found it a bit funny...kid has tantrum, kid climbs into machine, fire dept. comes, rescues him and no prize!)
  10. Sorry, but it wasn't photoshopped. I think it was a glitch in the thing. Right after I clicked No, it completely froze with Vader staring at me and the music playing in the background.
  11. Last year on my trip to Clear Lake, I saw an exit sign that said "Butts Canyon Road." We started to chuckle at it as we passed by. Must have been the heat that got to us for us to find it funny.
  12. In line for an SLC (Kong @ SFMW) Random kong rider: How fast does this ride go? My friend's curious. Kong Ride Op: This ride goes about 80 Mph. Me: Hey, how fast do you think this coaster goes? Cousin: I dunno..probably 50 Mph Me: You're correct. It doesn't go 80. Another time @ SCBB we were in line for the haunted castle ride, half way through as some preppy teenage girls try to line hop to get to the "rest of their group." We blocked them and told them that they can't cut. They said "Oh, our friends are up there." We told them that you have to go to the back of the line. They somehow managed to think they were getting their way by letting them go. As we got up to the ride op, he made the group wait as we got past them. The ride op told them that they were in the wrong all the way as they gave us dirty looks having to wait. We just had to laugh.
  13. Umm...Let's see. I think Vader's currently on something and here's why... Are you thinking of a "NO"?
  14. 10/10 They all look cool and have cool names. Meet my bro's fat cat, Snickers. He will lay down in just about any position and will do free hair cleaning (I can be standing next to something about the same height as me and he'll be on that reaching out to lick my hair) and he used to attack people's feet at night as he hides in a dark corner. Overall though, he's really an easy-going fat cat that will literally wake me up by pawing at my face so he can be pet. In the posted pic, he is just comfortably laying down showing off the gut. I'm not fat, I'm festively plump!
  15. We got stuck in Medusa's final brake run (just before the station) for 10 minutes. The train would inch it's way toward the station and then stop. It did this about 20 times or so and finally it rolled into the station leaving the front of the train hanging out past the station. I was thinking "Oooh! Re-rides!" and then the train suddenly reversed to line it's self back with the retractable floor. End result was a free 1-time use fast pass thingy for our group.
  16. OMG...he took more like 28 Q's to figure out I was thinking of a rollercoaster. Noooooooo!
  17. Soon, you'll recognize the manufacturer by simply looking at the track type (if you haven't already) and the feel of their designs. No need to beat a dead horse, but Vekoma builds those "Corkscrew" coasters you see in RCT or NL. Yes, they are known for 'off the shelf' coasters. Don't feel bad though. I'm teaching my cousin the same as she was clueless when she saw my avatar. First question was "Uh...what is a Vekoma?" and I explained about it and told her about Boomerangs and SLC's. Later, she asked if Medusa @ SFMW was a Vekoma...lol...she had to be slapped there.
  18. Which version? Original or the cover? Either way, it's "Ring of Fire" in which the Powder Keg one is a cover by Social Distortion and the original is by Jonny Cash. Just search for 'em in iTunes or whatever you use.
  19. Although I was scared of them when I was little, I was always impressed watching them go and even drew them. I just thought they looked cool.
  20. Besides mine (of course ) I'd have to say CoasterFanatic's and Wes's followed by the truth of deja vu (yours)
  21. For those of us NL designers out there, who still does hand made coasters from scratch and use very little or no tools at all? How many actually have the patience of learning those confusing formulas in Elementary for a more 'precise' design? Personally, although using complex formulas are a lot of work, I prefer doing everything by hand for the following reasons: I feel that there's more effort involved in handbuilding it and I happen to suck at math as I'm just finishing beginner algebra. So, what method do you guys use?
  22. Just looked at them things the other day too...those things are disturbing.
  23. Man...my cousin just blasted one in my room again! She wanted to blame it on the kitten on my lap. I did a major slugfest as I called Doorknob on her.
  24. Mine's been made right from the start...aren't I lucky?
  25. Thanks! My mini Boomerang now works, so if anyone wants to see it now, go on and download it.
