  1. In the last 2 years this park has doubled the size of their water park, totally re-done the front gate and added one of the best coasters in the world and a cool new interactive attraction and next year they're adding 5 new rides including an awesome top scan. To do all of that, they've removed one very mediocre wood coaster with no historical value. That's it... and crappy Go Karts but they added a much better up charge slingshot. People will complain about anything I swear... You are also taking my statement out of context. Read the post as a whole, not just the bit you quoted, and it makes perfect sense. I said they haven't added anything this year that impacts what I go to the park for so I'll probably just wait until the flats come. I'm perfectly aware of the investments the park is making. Also I'm allowed to have a different opinion than you on Thunder Road. The first half of the ride was great.
  2. You really feel the park added NOTHING this year?!?!?! If all you went to Carowinds for was for thunder road then there was the problem right there. But its nice to know that food would bring you back. Not Fury 325, not the water park expansion . . . but food. You are taking my statement out of context. I said they didn't add anything this year in terms of what I go to the park for so for me it's just a downgrade from last year and I will probably wait until they add the new flats to go back. I'm completely aware of the aggressive expansion investments Cedar Fair is putting into the park.
  3. Mind Bender at Six Flags Over Georgia 3 times in a row on the last train of the night! Awesome ride ops!
  4. Didn't it apparently run much better then than it does now too? Hopefully you had some weird off day and it won't be even more disappointing next time. I have yet to ride it but I'll be there this year and am trying to keep my expectations lower.
  5. You could fill this thread just with the Google 1 star reviews for any and every park. There are some amazingly hilarious reviews. Dollywood has a few great ones.
  6. ^I really don't have much interest in going back to Carowinds this year since all they really did in terms of why I go is remove Thunder Road and add nothing, but that menu is making me reconsider! That sounds wonderful.
  7. ^I completely agree. I feel like a lot of people hate on it because the part after the MCBR is average but that doesn't take away from the fact that the first half is insanely awesome. That cobra roll is something else!!!
  8. These are better than Maxair in my opinion, and Maxair is one of the best flats around.
  9. There really is no NEED for any park to add a custom coaster, but obviously as an enthusiast I always hope they do. I hope my home park, Six Flags Over Georgia, goes for another custom coaster as we luckily have almost always in the past (Even Superman was custom until it was cloned at 2 other parks). The only thing that bothers me is when there is literally only two or three of the same "clone" and people immediately lose interest. Superman: Ultimate Flight is still new to anyone who hasn't been to the other two parks that have it. The same can be said for Tempesto. It if was the first installation people would've been much more excited, yet most of those people hadn't been on it at SFDK, so it really doesn't make a difference. The Joker at SFGAdv is in the same boat.
  10. ^I agree it definitely isn't black and white. I don't think people are necessarily one sided so much as they are over-expressing one side to counter the other. At the end of the day it isn't Dollywood's fault that the ride isn't ready, but it is up to them how they want to handle the fact that it isn't ready. I'm just waiting until it opens and then jumping in my car and heading to ride it!
  11. It's both hilarious and disappointing to see that people aren't free to express their opinions on how parks and coasters work on a theme park forum. Even if it is speculation, it's still conversation. Just because we don't have all the information doesn't mean we can't analyze the situation and provide our own insight. In regards to the commercial, Dollywood is dropping the ball on that one and technically that could result in a fine or lawsuit from the FTC (although they have bigger fish to fry). Dollywood could easily face a fine and corrective advertising by law, but I doubt it would come to that. Either way, they are able to cut or change the televised ad. They really should do so from a moral and customer satisfaction standpoint at least. We may know better, but members of the "general public" could easily see that ad and take it seriously.
  12. Fury is very overrated in my opinion. I mean I didn't expect a lot from it since it is B&M, and yes it impressed for a B&M, but it still isn't as amazing as people seem to make it out to be. I also don't understand how one big B&M made coaster enthusiasts go from not bothering to visit Carowinds to making trips to the park with two day visits. You can do Carowinds in 4 hours if you get there at opening... I like the park a lot but I don't see how Fury turned it into Cedar Point South suddenly.
  13. I had no idea this was even being built but the ride and entire area looks impressive. Nice to see this park getting a custom ride that is relatively thrilling too. The wild mouse retheme would actually make me excited to ride another standard wild mouse.
  14. Not a coaster expert but I work in the marketing industry and our company even holds a marketing and promotional product account for Quassy and Six Flags New England so I'll share my marketing thoughts freely regardless of the fact that people get attacked for doing so here.
  15. I've been saying since Calico's closed that they should make it into a sandwich shop... sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps... something fresh that isn't offered anywhere else in the park that is light on the stomach. This would make a lot of sense as I believe Six Flags has been rolling out those options throughout the chain anyways, so if St. Louis doesn't have those offerings, that would be a great place to do it.
  16. ^I know high school spring breaks here in Georgia are mostly all in early and mid April. I would love to see a nationwide map of spring break weeks. That would help with coaster trip planning big time!
  17. That's a really nice looking restaurant. Sad it is vacant.
  18. ^Wow that's amazing! My thoughts were Cedar Fair either has to be aggressive with the development of CGA or completely drop it (which would be terrible). I wouldn't expect them to just keep things as they are. This is great news! Any mention of the timeline for all of this?
  19. I was going to say this as well. I still don't understand the hype. It is big and the drop is great but the rest of the ride is very average. I prefer Maverick and Magnum any day.
  20. That would be a question for ACE, but I do have two theories. First one is that this being John Allen's last coaster they feel it deserves a plaque. Second (this is based on an article I read online somewhere and my own assumption) Screamin' Eagle was apparently the first coaster to break the Coney Island Cyclone's speed record (60mph). When GASM was built Cyclone wasnt operating (according to Wikipedia Cyclone began running again in 1975) so GASM received the record for fast operating wooden roller coaster (57mph). I think my first theory is the most likely, the second one is more interesting than anything. But at the end of the day its a question best asked to either a memeber or a high ranking official. I agree. Screamin' Eagle is a better coaster for ACE than GASM Hopefully GASM will get one too, not that it really matters. GASM and Screamin' Eagle are both excellent and massive classic woodies, however I have to say GASM has the better airtime and rides better. Probably has a lot to do with the buzz bars. It's sad seeing buzz bars disappear from the Cedar Fair and Six Flags parks. Thanks for the insight. Those were my thoughts as the possibilities too.
  21. Agreed! I forgot they had a whip when I visited and it was one of the highlights of the day. It has much more snap to it than most the others. Both Kennywood and Knoebels disappointed in comparison.
  22. When they ask for single riders you can skip up to 20 minutes of the wait at Mystery Mine (which is usually the majority of the line from my experience). This works because you enter the station with a few switchbacks still left and where you first enter it is easy to get the groupers attention.
  23. ^Chiller was amazing imo. It would go in my dream park. A lot of people rank those as two of the best.
  24. At times last year they had two trains running.. I was very surprised and didn't believe it when I saw it on here as a few weeks before it was in parts under the coaster.. Someone even posted a rumor that they brought the other train in from somewhere.. Idk, it was only early in the summer when they had both trains.. Early last year it was in parts under the coaster lol It has been in pieces between the station and the loop (not even housed in the maintenance/storage) since at least August of last year if I remember correctly. The maintenance building is basically empty so I feel like that must mean that train is done. I wonder if we will see another train brought in from elsewhere or if we can expect new Gerstlauer trains. I love the original trains but they really need 2 functioning trains on there because it's a very popular ride and has a long ride time.
  25. ^I went for my birthday which landed on a Friday (yes I am a coaster nerd for choosing Six Flags as my birthday place on a Friday night). We arrived at 6:45 and they closed at 7:15 just as we got to GASM (The sky was completely clear). It really was a huge letdown.
