Best Wooden Coaster Collection
SFOG1991 replied to Password121's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Holiday World without a doubt. All three wooden coasters are so ridiculously intense! There are many other parks with great wooden coasters, but no park has that one, two, three punch like Holiday World! -
Child falls off Idlewild roller coaster
SFOG1991 replied to boldikus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's really sad. Does anyone know the condition of the child? I was really surprised by Rollo Coaster having no seat belts (suggesting that is the ride it happened on). I really enjoyed the classic freedom to it but I questioned the potential danger that freedom has at what is primarily a children's park. -

^I agree! I was lucky enough to ride it 5 times back around July 1st, and it was absolutely amazing! Especially at night. I just rode Outlaw Run and comparing the two, I was expecting Outlaw Run to have the edge but after riding both they are both so close to being perfect and Lightning Rod may just have the edge. I really can't decide for certain but the launch and two doses of airtime at the top of the hill beat the lift and drop for Outlaw Run, and the quad down on Lightning Rod is possibly the best stretch of coaster I've ever experienced. -
Carowinds Ever since Fury, people obsess over this place as Cedar Point South when in fact they have the worst line up of any 10+ coaster park in the United States and the park itself, while nice, really hasn't changed that much. All they did was add one very good stand out coaster and destroy their classic wooden coaster (which was still in the top 4 of the park in my opinion) and destroy their quaint entrance with a bland treeless expanse (the one saving grace being the interaction with Fury). Don't get me wrong, Carowinds is a nice park and I have enjoyed every visit, but it certainly isn't Cedar Point South at the moment and it certainly isn't a two day park. You are better off spending one day there and one day at SFOG who has a significantly better line up overall or Dollywood which provides a far superior experience with a smaller but high quality coaster line up. I still do love Carowinds ...it's just overrated.

When it opened it had 4 hour waits and even a slow day this year it averages a 45 minute wait. It's a huge draw for the park. This. I was in Kansas City on a coaster trip and was planning to go to the park over the weekend, but pushed plans back to Monday (which obviously didn't happen) and the reason I was going was for Verrückt followed by Storm Blaster. From my understanding after browsing their rides, there really isn't much else that stands out over Oceans of Fun (which just so happens to include the entire dry park as well.. a much more enticing deal). If it weren't for Verrückt and Storm Blaster, I would've had no interest in going. All sadness from this horrific incident aside, I do hope I will get back to Kansas City soon to check out this park and ride both of these slides.

This is such a terrible and shocking accident. I was actually in Kansas City doing a coaster trip and Schlitterbahn was on the itinerary of course, but we kept pushing it back a day and were going to squeeze it in on Monday but then heard the news Sunday night. It was really hard to believe (still is) and I'm glad I wasn't there to witness it. I was really excited to ride it and now I'm just shocked and curious how exactly this could've occurred. I'm very curious if they will reopen it (I would assume next year) and if the results of the investigation can warrant the ride as "fixable" or if there is a serious flaw that can't be fixed. Even if it can be fixed I could see the ride never reopening just because of the significance of the accident. I guess that all depends on what happened and how everything plays out going forward. It really is such a terrible tragedy and something I never thought would happen.

^Condor's are fine with motion sickness as long as height doesn't bother you. It's like a tame scrambler with tilting to offset the positive gs as long as the mix with height doesn't contribute to your motion sickness. Great classic ride. I visited the park this past Friday and was very impressed! A few hiccups but a great park overall. Average ops that caused some frustrations but surprisingly classic feel with a lot to do. Prowler was amazing especially at night. Kings Island has nothing to worry about with their new GCI. I'll work on a trip report soon! -
The lazy river and "kiddie cove" have super clear water so I'm not sure what's happening at the slide complex but if it is passing inspection it must be fine. I honestly would do the slide without question. Every time I have been to this park I've had an amazing time and while the setting has always been nice, the condition of the entire park has improved drastically. Overhead pictures of the park look beautiful which is surprising considering the condition of the park a few years ago. The water park has been a big saving grace this season and they've even improved to the point of having operational profitability. Sure they are still losing money overall but that's a big leap and the water park has a lot to do with that so good for them! I hope to see the park survive and ultimately thrive, no matter the probability of that happening.

Yes, Fast Lane gets you to the station (bypasses the queue lines), where you then can choose your row. Perfect! That's my favorite set up. Thank you again! Really looking forward to visiting for the first time. -

Ok, one more question... Does Fast Lane allow you to pick your row on every coaster? Also, does it merge with the station queue where you still wait a few cycles? -

^Thanks guys. I might try the BBQ! I love BBQ so maybe the tacos for lunch and BBQ for dinner. I am really excited about the parks flat rides so I will definitely hit Cyclone Sams early on, and use Fast Lane for the rest. This park has some of my favorite flats so that will be a big part of the day. I am really excited to try Finnish Fling! I'm not too worried about missing Zulu and Woodstock Gliders because I've been on plenty of enterprise rides (and prefer the Schwarzkopf models) and as for flyers, the ones at Knoebels and Carowinds are hard to beat. -

I've seen a guy tripping on acid at SFOG. He was standing in the very center of the main plaza area spinning around and screaming total nonsense scaring everyone. Fun times. This event sounds extra classy though with the tackling of the officer and spitting in hundreds of dollars worth of drinks. I hope someone filmed it. -

^As long as our flight arrives on time and we get to the park at opening, we will be doing Oceans of Fun so the Fast Lane Plus will be awesome. If we don't have time for Oceans, we may play it by ear, but honestly when traveling so far to go to a park for one day, we always get Fast Lane Plus unless their are literally no lines (aka every visit to Dorney we have ever had.... ever. lol). Any rides worth riding that aren't on Fast Lane Plus? I need to check out the list on their website. As for food, thank you so much for the recommendations. We will definitely do the taco truck (how can that not be delicious?!) and maybe Panda Express too (it isn't unique to the park but we do love some orange chicken!). -
^I'm not sure but it was SBNO for 5 years so there is a decent chance it was scrapped. I recall the removal being sloppy but I'm not entirely sure. It was a small basically portable powered coaster but it was installed permanently with footers so I'm going to say it was probably scrapped as the scrap yard money was probably greater than any realistic selling cost considering it wasn't easy to transport.

Photo TR: A good park and Lakemont Park
SFOG1991 replied to ImNotOneOfYou's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
With all of the revenue from the last 10 years the most exciting thing they could add is the world's first dueling wacky worm without the second track. They could lie announce that the park will close and have people in the tens come to the park and get enough money to buy another game for their arcade. Delgrosso's is growing steadily. In the time between my first and second visit, they've added a very good flat ride and a huge water park expansion. I see more flat rides coming to the park, but probably not a decent sized roller coaster, even for next year (the park's 110th anniversary.) From my understanding, this park is somewhat supplemented by the state government or even federal, is that true? I thought it was based on Leap The Dips being historic, the presence of public athletic facilities, and the fact that they have free community days. Plus I honestly don't think this park would still be in operation without special funding and tax exemptions. I enjoyed the park and think it deserves any help it gets to stay in operation. -

Thanks! Thanks! I will probably do Spinning Dragons then Boomerang. I want the credits but I doubt I'll want to re-ride either so it'll be nice to get them done for the day and move on. Thanks! It'll be hot but I am used to it down here in Georgia. Probably, yes, especially considering Fast Lane Plus includes the water park. The only way I would consider not doing so is if the dry park had walk ons at all the coasters. I doubt it'll be that empty considering it is a Friday and they have $19.99 Bring A Friend offers going on. Coming from Georgia, we usually get Fast Lane Plus at any Cedar Fair park if there are any lines at all. I know it'll help extensively in the water park at least. Thanks! Any suggestions on best food? -
^Sorry your experience wasn't as great as you had hoped. I go to Lake Winnie a few times a year and have never seen Cannonball open late. Sea Monster has always been open until this season, so they are obviously having issues there, but it is a ton of fun and one of my very favorite flats in the park. Fly-O-Plane is always open and is super unique and super insane (possibly my favorite flat ride), but it had an accident injuring two kids a few weeks ago so it is closed until that is resolved. It sounds like you just happened to be there on an off day. Hopefully it won't deter you from returning because on a good day, Lake Winnie really shines. Their haunt event is great! So is their fireworks nights. Did you do the water park?

I was excited about this until I learned Flying Falcon was leaving. That was by far my favorite flat at the park, and one of my all time favorite flats anywhere. They are so rare now and I was hoping Hershey was interested in keeping it long term. I do love the theme and concept of the towers though. The varying heights and experiences is nice. -
Will B&M ever top the charts?
SFOG1991 replied to Password121's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There are a few B&Ms that I rank very highly. I love intensity so I will admit my top 10 is mostly Intamin and crazy wooden coasters, but I still rank the following very highly... Fury 325 Goliath (SFOG) Kraken Alpengeist Banshee Kumba Batman I feel like Tatsu could also be in that list but I haven't had the pleasure of riding it yet. -

^While I am glad they were doing the rehearsal to let as many people ride it as possible, it was really an annoying experience with them not letting you wait in the queue and then even having employees move the line outside the entrance out of the shade and into the direct sun where it was blocking people trying to walk by. There have just been so many things wrong with the execution and saying it is in technically rehearsal at this point is basically a complete lie. I do very much appreciate the effort to have it as open as possible though. I'm really glad I got to ride it when I did, multiple times, without waiting. It didn't seem that special or lucky at the time but now I'm very thankful. Still hoping they can just get it running without issue before the season is over. I know that is months away but it's been months since this was supposed to open and look where we are now. lol. -

I'll be visiting Worlds of Fun this Friday and I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips or suggestions for my visit! I know a good bit about the park but have never visited. Feel free to be as detailed as you want! I love advice. -
^I agree. That land just isn't in a place where it can be sold. It is surround almost completely by functioning Six Flags owned operations. As for White Water expanding, I do hope this happens soon! I have NEVER been to White Water without the place being almost overcrowded. Even on weekdays after large storms have moved through. White Water could use an extensive expansion with a second wave pool, a water coaster, and even a substantial body slide complex. Really the park could just use more of anything and everything even though they already have more slides than most water parks.
