Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
jonskinny12 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Is Pink's at Cedar Point worth checking out? Any menu suggestions for when I visit in June? I've seen people rave about the other locations and I've also read that the one here has a smaller menu and isn't as good. I don't love hot dogs but I'm all for trying food that isn't the typical generic garbage that a lot of corporate parks serve up. -

I really don't get why this concept is so hard for some people to understand. -

Are you working Millennium Force again this year? This was a few pages back but this is very similar to how it was for me. I was 16 when it opened and we made our first trip out to Cedar Point the following summer. I had read so much about it and seen so many pictures and had hyped it up beyond belief in my mind. Then we stopped somewhere near the park and I could finally see the top of the hill off in the distance. I still remember that day like it was yesterday and it's still one of my favorite rides I've ever been on, possibly my favorite. -

Magnum in the second to last row with the seatbelt as tight as I can get it is comfortable and completely pain-free and more fun than most coasters out there. -

Hmm... Planning a trip here in early June but going to be at the park Sunday and Wednesday. I might see if I can try to change that, because this sounds awesome. -

Someone didn't ride in the middle bench of a 3-bench PTC. Yeah the last time I was at Kings Island was June 2015 and I was actually pretty surprised at how smooth and enjoyable it was. I did sit in a middle row, of course, because that's the only place to sit on a 3-bench PTC train unless you're in the very front row of The Beast at night. -

^ I really like how those towers look next to Stormrunner! I hadn't considered that they'd be so close together right there. -
Does this park make a killing from their water park? Based on the attendance I remember reading and the reasonable prices, I just don't understand how they can do everything they've done up to this point and be planning such a large addition for 2018/2019 (if that's really what it is). Either way, I'm excited to see what they've got planned and I'm also excited for my first visit to this park in June!

I'll keep this in mind. Seriously though, I'm really enjoying reading this discussing and everybody's thoughts on the coasters as I think about my upcoming trip in June. -

Thanks everybody for the responses! It's all helpful and appreciated. Depending on how busy it is we'll most likely try to mix in some of those other coasters/rides that have been suggested (besides Ricochet - I have never really enjoyed a wild mouse and I don't care for credits much). Can't wait for Fury and Afterburn though! I've been on a couple and they've been sort of hit or miss for me. I rode Nighthawk when it was at CGA and I didn't care for it much. I rode Kings Island's Firehawk when it was at Geauga Lake and I didn't like it then, but when I went to KI a couple years ago I loved it, so I don't know what the deal is with that. -

What are Saturdays in June like at Carowinds as far as crowds? I'm planning to visit on June 10 (probably also go for at least the morning the next day) and I'm wondering how busy it will be. I've never been to the park and can't wait for (hopefully) a bunch of rides on Fury. I'm also very interested in Afterburn. Some other rides look interesting but not really a priority for me compared to Fury and Afterburn. -

Thanks everybody for the suggestions and feedback over the last couple days. It's very much appreciated. We're planning to buy season passes and go Thursday and Friday June 8-9, with possibly a few more hours at the park Sunday afternoon before our flight leaves from Knoxville in the evening. We're going to head over to Carowinds on the Saturday in between. What else do you enjoy doing at the park to spend 3 days? Sometimes a park is just enjoyable to be at. For me, that's Holiday World. I spent two full days there at HoliWood Nights in 2015 and could have stayed longer (and I never touched the water park...shame on me lol). -
Dollywood Discussion Thread

So I'm looking for a little advice on visiting Dollywood. My brother and I have been planning a trip to this general area of the country for this upcoming summer, visiting parks from Holiday World to Carowinds and a few in between, including Dollywood. The dates we're looking at are Thursday June 1 through Sunday June 11. We've looked at a number of different ways to do this trip, and what I'm really wondering about Dollywood is what are weekday and weekend crowds like that time of year? How many days can one spend in this park? We mostly only care about the coasters and maybe some of the more interesting non-coaster rides, but since I don't know when I'll get back to this park I don't want to rush my time and I want to get many re-rides on the bigger coasters like Lightning Rod (assuming it's running more reliably this summer), Thunderhead, Wild Eagle (when are wasps commonly a problem?), etc. Any tips on days, how to best get through the park, cool stuff to do/see (other than the shows - those have never really interested either of us at any park), food, lodging, etc. would be greatly appreciated! -

You're definitely not the only one. I love snowy roller coaster scenes and I love curving GCI drops. -

Oh got it, I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you were saying what they've built is actually currently taller than the old lift. -

There's track for the first bump at the end of the turn and the ledgers in place suggest a second bump will be after that. But yeah, I really don't care about them either. If you really want to see it, watch carefully from 1:10 to 1:20 of the video. It's still a ways from the height of the old lift hill. Based on what we're seeing right now it looks like it will end up higher and I think that's going to be the case, but it's not there yet and we all have absolutely no way of knowing this right now. No matter what ends up happening with the stupid pre-lift (that really doesn't matter at all anyway) and how tall this is, it's going to be amazing and I can't wait to see it built. -

I'm sure it will look awesome (and will ride a million times better), but there's something about the massive wooden coaster that I love to look at. -

I will certainly miss looking at it. -
^ That's really interesting to read your experience with the CP employees. I visited there in 2015 and 2016 (before that I hadn't been since 2007) and found the employees to be just as friendly and into their jobs as in the past and more so than most of the employees at SFMM. I say most because there are actually some great employees at SFMM. And having more coasters means absolutely nothing, especially when 4 of them are under 30 feet tall. I love SFMM and I've been twice this year, might go back for HITP as well. I just prefer the way CP is run in so many ways. As far as the coaster lineup goes, I prefer CP but SFMM has some things that CP doesn't.

The Raven is fun any time of day, but it really comes alive at night going through the trees and the sweeping turn along the lake. It's up there with some of the best coaster experiences I've had. Same with The Voyage at night. My only complaint about Raven is that it ends just a little bit too early. This really is a special park and I can't wait to get back. Hopefully next year for HWN. -

Yep. I've tried Chickies at CP a few times and the food besides the crab fries has always been okay, but not anything that makes me want to go back. The crab fries and being inside a building with AC definitely make up for it though. -
The park calls it a 5D coaster (https://www.sixflags.com/magicmountain/attractions/x2-coaster), but I'm pretty sure this is the only place that it's labeled as such - everywhere else I've ever read says 4D. If I remember correctly, when X was "redone" into X2 the park began marketing it as a 5D coaster because of the audio and fire effects that were added.

On my trip to CP earlier this year, for my first day the forecast was saying rain most of the day for at least a week leading up to it. Even in the morning of my first day it still said there were going to be showers for most of the afternoon. It was sunny all day and we never felt a single rain drop. So yeah, the forecast can change dramatically, even within 12 hours of when a storm is supposed to hit.
