  1. The Raven and The Beast are something completely different at day and night. The Raven in the back at night is one of my favorite coaster experiences, same as the front of The Beast at night.
  2. Feb is usually pretty light except on BAFF days, no Key Club that's only in the fall. Got it, thanks! I'll keep an eye out for when BAFF day is.
  3. I'm thinking about taking a trip down to SFMM the weekend of Feb 27-28. Is February usually pretty light? I see for 2015, Feb 22 was a bring a friend free day and I know that in the summer/fall those days are usually packed. Does key club ever have days in the winter? Anything else I should watch out for?
  4. When trying to reduce the G-Forces on Goliath's helix, the easiest way to do that was to reduce the speed through the helix as much as possible. And the easiest way to do that was to have the brakes slow the ride down as much as possible (complete stop), and then let gravity slowly pull it out of the brake run. At least that's why I assume it comes to a complete stop. I never really had a problem with the strong forces on the helix prior to the change.
  5. Yeah, it's amazing how tiny this makes Raptor and Blue Streak look.
  6. This report was a lot of fun to read and to look through the pictures, thanks for the post! Especially fun to read it in the winter and look back on my first ever visit earlier this year in late May. Hopefully I'll make it out there again next year.
  7. When I visited in late May I rode it 27 times in one day. But it was my only time ever at the park so I have nothing to compare it to.
  8. No, but it would probably be quite the whipper snapper
  9. Thanks for the feedback! Looks like I'll be going the first weekend of October then. I kinda figured that would probably be the case.
  10. How busy is the park usually during Fright Fest? I'm only interested in the rides, not any of the mazes. I'm considering going either the weekend of October 3 or October 24. Seems like it would probably get busier closer to Halloween, but I'm wondering just how busy. I expect the park will be even more full of annoying teenagers but hopefully they go more for the mazes than the rides. I need to get my first rides on TC. It's a shame that I live as close as I do and I haven't been yet.
  11. ^ I get what you're saying about the laterals and that's probably the case with some people. But I personally really enjoy the laterals. I love the helix partly because of the lack of banking. But when I was there for HWN, The Legend almost felt like it had square wheels at times unless I was in the front row.
  12. Glad to see another person who loves this! I haven't ridden any RMCs yet, but The Voyage is my #1 woodie and took my #1 overall spot when I was there in May. The Legend was my least favorite of the four big coasters here. Riding in the front right (or is it left? I don't remember which direction the forever long helix goes) was the most enjoyable, but it was extremely rough for me on most of my 7 rides. But I love how the drop looks from over by The Voyage and the bell and howl are awesome effects. The interaction with the water park is cool too. Just too rough. I would also be curious to know about the unfriendly staff. The only time I've visited the park was this year for HWN and everyone was extremely friendly.
  13. That's really interesting. Isn't it losing a lot of speed at that point? If I remember right, that's the first time it really slows down after the first drop. Not that you can only have a trim when it's going fast, I just find it an interesting place for a trim because it's already slowing down and it's pretty much over at that point.
  14. From what we've been told a few times by HW, it's all based on timing. When it was off for me (nobody "turned" it off, it just didn't actually slow the train at all), it was the first few rides on the first night of HWN. I'm guessing that having some time to cool off while the rest of the park emptied had something to do with the train making it to the MCBR slower, and then it didn't need to slow the train.
  15. During HWN I rode The Voyage with and without the MCBR multiple times. I appreciated both sides of it and I'm fine with leaving it on most of the time. If that makes the majority of guests happy and helps prolong the life of the coaster, then I'm all for it. I imagine if it was off ALL the time I wouldn't have been able to ride it as much over those 2 days. And the actual experience isn't even that much different aside from the triple down. So I guess put me in the camp of supporting the MCBR being on and being tired of listening to complaints about it.
  16. Also seems to depend on the ride. Sitting in the station, I found Thunderbird's felt much tighter on my shoulders and more uncomfortable than Banshee's or GateKeeper's.
  17. When I visited earlier this year, the fog was not working for a couple of my rides. It was definitely better with it working, but it was only a slight disappointment to have it off. I quickly forgot any disappointment though because the ride is incredible.
  18. This was my thought after watching the Lightning Rod announcement this morning. The barrel roll first drop on Storm Chaser is still going to be awesome and I'm hoping to make my first trip to KK next year as part of a bigger trip since the dates didn't work out for me this year.
  19. Sounds like you probably had some bad luck with Wicked. I think it has only stopped once while I've been in line this year to retrieve something. It seems to happen at least half the time when I'm in line for Roller Coaster though. Also, Wicked's single rider line always has at least a few people in it and I almost never see an empty seat anywhere. The ride ops are very good at filling empty seats with the single rider line.
  20. Yeah there were a lot of inaccuracies and really stretched facts. If you go by duration (according to my quick "fact" checking on rcdb - so keep that in mind), Intimidator is actually the longest steel coaster in North America. But the other 99% of the time when you refer to coaster length, you're talking about track length. Does anyone know if that's actually true about the duration? Does it have a really slow lift or something? I saw the duration listed as 3:33 and a number of other long steel coasters listed at 3:30.
  21. I would also be in favor of SFMM having a shortened offseason. It would really improve the park. Is it ever busy during the winter? I don't know if I've ever been to the park later than early November or earlier than April.
  22. I love all the details on every single ride. The enterprise is probably the coolest I've seen, and the troika looks great too.
  23. I do this every time. It's the only enjoyable way to ride a stand up. And like CedarFlags, I sit for a lot of the ride as well. Riddler's is actually a lot of fun if you ride it that way.
  24. ^ I had the same thought watching that video.
  25. I'm with you on this. I rode it 27 times over the two days I was there for Holiwood Nights.
