You Might Be A Coaster Nerd If....

When you open a bottle of soda and the hissing sound of the air rushing out reminds you of the sound of friction brakes releasing. -

Larson/ARM Super Shot Drop Towers
mdwarn01 replied to Joe Schwartz's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kentucky Kingdom's FearFall will be an ARM/Larson drop tower. I've never gotten the chance to experience one and from what I've heard I'm really looking forward to/dreading trying it. -

This is why I'll be going during the week while the local kids are still in school . But the idea of a huge crowd on opening day does concern me a bit. The park isn't really that big and the entire staff is new. Hopefully they can keep up. The last thing the park needs is word spreading around the community that "Kentucky Kingdom still sucks."

Best Drop Ride!!!
mdwarn01 replied to coaster_shorty's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Acrophobia at SFOG is my favorite, especially when the ride ops are messing with you. Drop Zone at Kings Island is a close second. Though I've heard good things about the ARM/Larson towers, so Fearfall might break up that list once Kentucky Kingdom opens. -
Besides the bit of landscaping left to do in the water park (unless they're going for the authentic beach look) and around Lightning Run, the park is looking amazing! I don't think it ever looked that good when Six Flags was operating it.

So one of my best friends recently got an exchange student RA position in California and we recently had the idea for me to fly out to LA when I'm on Spring Break and I'll have a free place to crash. But being the roller coaster junkie that I am, I can't be that close to Magic Mountain and just ignore it . I've done some research and seen that Magic Mountain is open in late March, but with reduced hours. So my question is, does anybody know what the crowds are like there in March? Will I be able to hit all of the major coasters (everything that's open, at least) in one day, or should I splurge for some Fast Passes? And what are the typical rates on Fast Passes? I'd also appreciate any other trip tips that you may have. Thanks for your help in advance!

My home park is Kentucky Kingdom. Mostly I just want to see the park open for a second season. T2 is schedule for a major overhaul, so I'd like to see it receive some track work, new trains, and maybe a paint job (although I'm kind of used to the all black scheme). If the park does well in its first season, I'd like to see either a large flat ride added or a coaster with some inversions. With the removal of Chang and Greezed Lightning, T2 is now the only coaster in the park with inversions. If the park chooses to focus on the water park, I certainly wouldn't be opposed to an Aqualoop. It seems right up Ed Hart's alley.

T2 and Mean Streak are both pretty rough (well, T2 was). But neither even comes close to the beating that Son of Beast dished out. It might have been less painful to just take a jackhammer straight to the kidney.

The Best Terrain Coaster

I'd have to say the Beast, only because I've never ridden Nemesis -
So if Six Flags sold the part of the park that they owned to the fair board does that mean that the fair board now owns all of the land that Kentucky Kingdom sits on, or did they sell the part they purchased from Six Flags back to Ed Hart. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the Fair Board own the whole property and rents it to the operators? I believe this is the case. Hence why nobody but Ed Hart wanted anything to do with the park after Six Flags ditched it.
