Actually, that board was pretty good. Magnum's board is a B&M designed board installed before last season started. It essentially broke the ride. -

If you slam into the brakes right outside of the tunnel, thats because there was a delay in advancing the train in the station. Its essentially an emergancy block that in perfect operation is never used. Id say it happens between 10-30 times a day. Look back in the discussion, we've discussed the functionality of the safety breaks in quite a bit of depth. Its actually considered down time when the train stops there and the train must be manually advanced by two seperate buttons on opposite sides of the station. An interesting quirk that the pretty terrible electrical design of Magnum has. Anyone know if other Arrows have a similar operation quirk? -

Should we start figuring out how Cedar Fair will fit this into Dorney in 20 years? On a more serious note, Its refreshing to see that this thing is going up so quickly. I say refreshing because my home park is Great Adventure that has yet to break ground on Looping Dragon. Its really amazing how much better of a company/chain Cedar Fair is. -

I rode Magnum at least 100 times. In my opinion, its better than anything else at the park. But then again, I have a definitive soft spot for Arrows. I mean, the ejector air on the return run makes El Toro feel like a B&M hyper. -
I noticed in the promo video Six Flags advertises that WC will be the world's smoothest coaster. I'm sorry, but is that even a record? How can you tell? "This ride hasn't been built yet, but let me tell you, it will be the smoothest Roller Coaster in THE ENTIRE WORLD. Trust me, I've been on all of them with some science and a test tube. This this the smoothest".

Right after Smiler? RCDB makes this sound like a pretty major coaster. Its strange to see them expanding so rapidly on the coaster front. I just hope they keep up the quality of additions and dont go Six Flags on us. We know how that pans out in the long run. -

I have to agree, Maverick is an incredibly agressive coaster. However, it also has an intensity to justify it. Mean Streak on the other hand is just rough with absolutely no fun parts. In fact, the only fun thing about Mean Streak is looking at it. I would love to see RMC overhaul it. It would no doubt be one of the most incredible coasters on earth. However, Im not really sure if it will happen any time soon. They are clearly removing Good Time Theater for a new attraction and my gut tells me the adjacent car ride is on the chopping block. That opens up some primo coaster building space (or possibly primo dark ride building space). I think we can all agree that Cedar Point isn't going to ignore RMC. Cedar Point needs a woodie on par with El Toro (since its well established that the streaks don't cut it). Maybe the idea of a custom RMC woodie in the Good Time Theater spot isn't so crazy. Afterall, Goliath wasn't exactly built on a huge plot of land. -

I was hoping that they would stop the delayed openings after the Jaro/Goliath delayed openings were further delayed due to actual setbacks. If I'm not mistaken, Jaro didn't open until July. Thats where is teters from teaser to plain old bad press. Instead of delaying a ride opening to get more passes sold, how about they stop running the park like crap and pissing off the people that buy passes so that they might actually buy one again.

I dont even know what to say about that turnaround. Maybe its the angle, but it looks incredibly nuts. Especially knowing that it will be taken in B&M hyper trains. -
This has been bothering me for a while. This is the answer to this debate. If you live by the park, your pretty sick of all the gimmick rides (SUF, Kingda Ka, TDK, GL). Take of the family coasters (Blackbeards, skully, RMT), and your left with Bizzaro, Nitro, Batman, and El Toro. The three B&Ms are getting into their 20s now. No matter how amazing El Toro is, you can only ride it so many times. Since a majority of park guests are locals (proof: closest hotel is 20 minutes away), they've been riding the same coasters for 9 years. If your an enthusiast living elsewhere, GADV has tons of major credits that you havent ridden many times or at all. From an outside point of view, GADV looks stacked, but from a local perspective, GADV is a stale shell of something that used to be. Source: Ive had a season pass every year since 1998.

The people who enjoy mean streak are probably the ones who enjoy a few beers in the park first. I rode it probably 25 times throughout the summer and the ride is the bad kind of bad. Theres no reward for your suffering either. -

I'm ready working out my trip for this summer/spring. I hope this is a continuation of a return to form for B&M that Banshee got started. Im loving how much time is spent low to the ground. -
Gadv fans have complaied for about the past 10 years about the lack of flats. If you even suggested that Gadv needed a new coaster, youd be shot down with cries about how the park needs flats. The park has gotten a skyscreamer (flat), scrambler (flat), the worlds tallest drop tower (flat), and Looping Dragon (flat) in the past few years. The park took strides to clean up the park and add the flats enthusiasts begged for. They havent made a large scale investment since 2006 and 2016 will mark 10 years since the last new major coaster. Perhaps something really big is in the pipes. Or maybe six flags is trying to lower guest expectations for new additions. Who knows with them.

I know a ton about this part of the park because I lived in Cedars. There was a lot of talk about Cedars being removed during the 2015 or 2016 season. Cedars is over 100 years old, falling apart, has no AC, un-popular, and completely un-maintained. The lack of renovation (or really even general upkeep) tells me that the park plans to do away with it soon. Really, the housing feels border-line condemnable. Spectulating on an expansion of Commons is kind of redundant since it was just expanded this season (I believe the 1600s are all new). There is plenty of space over there for more buildings and I'm sure if Cedars bites the dust, we will see them expand it even further. However, this is problematic. Commons after dark is scary and borders onto unsafe. I believe in a single incident around 30 or so (I didn't look it up, and my memory is a little fuzy), were arrested and 16 were convicted for aggrivated rioting. Several sandusky police cars were always on site and cedar point officals were always by the gate. I knew a few employees who would actually avoid leaving their room after certain times. The amount of parties and loud music makes a typical college campus look like a daycare center. I don't know how quickly Cedar Point is looking to up their liability by further crowding and populating this area. Not to mention, the bus system from commons to the park is already overloaded and causes employees to be late (which at Cedar Point could easily cost you your job). Cedars sits on some nice real estate by the marina (after all, it WAS a hotel), so I'm sure the park is itching to get at it. However, unlike axing the theater, removing Cedars is a pandora's box of issues that I don't think Cedar Point wants to open right now. I'm sure we wil see the antiuqe cars removed along with the theater towards the end of next season. -
I believe that this concept was shown at the last IAPPA with several switchbacks throughout the ride. My memory is a little hazy on the details though. Looks like a great addition for a small park and an interesting experiment for bigger rides in the future. Kind of reminds me of how Silver Dollar City got a custom RMC before anyone else. When small parks get new tech early, it gives us new rides, puts new ideas into practice, advances the overall industry, and gives me an excuse to go to smaller parks that I couldn't justify before

Coolest station you've seen
woolandmammoth replied to Eric_Smith's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not sure if it has been mentioned, but Skull Mountain at Great Adventure's station has (well, before all the taki's ads ruined it) by far the best theming I have ever seen on a Six Flags attraction. While the queue and ride building have seen better days, the Station is really well done. -

Thats an awfully soft release for a park like Cedar Point. When I first heard the rumor from a supervisor in May, it was phrased to me as "Floorless Mantis is in the budget". I can't help but think that they might have something else up their sleeves, but tacked on the Mantis transformation to add a thrill based attraction next year. This year's attendance numbers were down significantly last time I was informed, so finding a quick way to spruce up an existing coaster on the cheap might be a marketing plus for another family oriented experience to be announced for next year. Now they can advertise a "new coaster" and a family addition. TL;DR: This was likely a last second-ish decision to add marketable attraction to a second year of (harder to market) family additions and (impossible to market) park renovations. -
I mean, we have two giant spots in the park cleared and ready for construction. If you look at it that way, Six Flags is actually well ahead of the construction schedule they usually use. Plus, the ride wouldn't have to open until July anyway. Very few other Six Flags parks have teased or have been hyping announcements. The only one that comes to mind is Fiesta Texas. That teasing and hyping sums up to, yes, a single balloon. Perhaps SF doesn't see pre-announcement as a significant marketing strategy and is just going to drop something big out of the clear blue. To be honest, I pushed back my trip to Holiday World because I knew they building a major new coaster. Perhaps they see hyping as a reason for people to wait until next season to come. Just my two cents.

Chances are this kid was probably just trying to get through another day of work. People get very fussy at amusement parks, and that hardens some employees. I've seen guests go as far as attack (verbally and physically) employees for doing what their told. Being yelled at constantly for doing your job isn't easy. Give the guy a break. They are just trying to get by. I'm sure most of you have have never been on the side of fence where you have to tell people they have to buy a locker or that their kid can't ride. Its not easy, nobody gets pleasure out of it, and chances are they are going to get yelled at by management for following the rules or breaking them anyway. Needless to say, I didn't really read about what happened at all, just giving my two cents. Its a shame it had to happen to such nice people who were likely following all of the rules.
