^Magic Mountain went with four trains on Colossus with intentions to run four, as it is designed. It wasn't that they purchased a spare train, it was more of just a "yeah we'll try to run at least three all the time" sort of deal. It's like running three trains on Millennium Force--it's designed to run three trains at max capacity, but can run two on very slow days or if a train is in maintenance.

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Password121 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Holy crap. That right there, along with Voyage, makes Holiday World top of the list for me this summer (along with Carowinds and SFNE). That is an amazing picture. -
Green Lantern is very good in terms of stand-ups, but very mediocre relative to the offering at Great Adventure. Being an occasional visitor (2-3 visits/year), I find myself getting re-rides on El Toro, Nitro, Batman and even Bizarro before I'll wait for Green Lantern. That's not to say its a bad ride, but just not worth missing out on everything else this park has to offer. I'll take Green Lantern over Apocalypse at SFA every day of the week.

Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread

Late summer, just like most major parks. They're generally scattered throughout August-October, depending on the ride/park. -
A final note on the speed... This ride goes directly into a bunny hop from the drop, meaning the center of mass never actually descends the entire drop, more like five feet above that. The train would have to be completely parallel to the ground to reach its max potential velocity. Also, to clear it up, drop angle plays no factor in speed, other than variants of friction. Ok now back to usual discussion

Who ever said this ride was the park's answer to its problems? The park stated that infrastructure work is in the plans, its just not in the budget for 2015. Not every park can spend millions upon millions every year. It's called an "off" year for a reason. The park spent a crap ton of money on Zumajaro just last year due to issues that weren't really the park's fault. I completely understand that Gadv isn't the best maintained park out there. It could absolutely use some work. But the park has a budget, priorities, and people to cater to (not nit-picky enthusiasts like you and me), which requires them to take on one task at a time. I guarantee that if they spent the 2015 budget on making Movietown look $1 million nicer, you'd complain that they didn't "replace" RT with anything. And you would need a magnifying glass to notice the changes from only a million dollars in a park the scale of Gadv. Just my take.

You're placing the blame of Premier's management on modern day Six Flags. Six Flags in '99 through the early 2000's doesn't even resemble the Six Flags of today. Great Adventure went in over their heads adding more rides than they knew what to do with, could staff, or even maintain. Some of these rides were earlier models, meaning they were very unreliable. These were slowly removed after standing SBNO for a while, while others were replaced with rides you are saying the park needs more of. You know, that little known ride we call El Toro? Yes, it is true that many were just removed. Shipped to other parks. Packed up into the junkyard. This was the doing of 1999-2005 Six Flags. Not 2010-present Six Flags. Today, management realizes the park isn't all about coasters. They recognize the importance of a fairly well rounded experience, all done responsibly, meaning not $42 million in a single year. What I'm trying to say is the past is the past. It's over. Six Flags is doing what they see best for the park, and you know what? I think that's pretty damn good for a park that came within months of folding in the late '80's and filed for bankruptcy less than 10 years ago.

I understand the dislike of the ride, but I lie more on the side of its a decent choice for an inexpensive addition with a fairly wide audience. Think about it: some of us on this site are saying we'd give it a spin (myself included at SFA), and it will appeal to children, teens, parents, maybe even a few grandparents. It also fills in the rare spot of inverting flat ride for SFA, a second one for Gadv (Twister's days are likely numbered), and so on. Not a bad move, from SF's perspective. As for replacing Rolling Thunder, while I see the idea, I disagree. Six Flags doesn't need an excuse to remove Rolling Thunder. It was in poor condition and was likely very expensive to maintain, took up a massive chunk of valuable land, and had decreasing ridership. Zumanjaro's queue took up a pice of its footprint (which is a far superior ride than RT, even with its crap capacity), and there is more room for expansion by El Toro's lift, behind the twister section. In a way, is this really a bad replacement for Rolling Thunder?

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Quite honestly, if you're a first timer at Cedar Point, in park wi-fi isn't the first thing you should be concerned about. The only time wi-fi would've been of any help to me was for Tony's tweet ups; but even then, it was only during a passing shower with all the rides closed. Cedar Point keeps people occupied better than almost any park. That said, it could be a nice addition for the regulars or employees for sure. -
I was at the park for a good while today. Overall it was a good day; more crowded than I expected for a Monday, but nothing too ridiculous. One train ops on all coasters, Superman, Batwing, and Wild One could have befitted from two train operations greatly. Noticed some retracking on Wild One, which was running fairly well. Superman was hauling today, greyed out in the first helix for a few seconds. Jokers Jinx was down today. I walked around the perimeter and noticed it was actually missing about 2/3 of a support on the backside, with the base of the support in the ground and the top portion suspended in the air, clamped by what appeared to be a ratcheting rope or band of sorts. Honestly I've never seen something like this before. It looked like it was forcefully removed (not clean) from the footer, which was very easily visible from the path to Superman. Anyone have more info? I can't imagine this is a quick fix by any means.

^Skull Mountain, an Intamin flume ride, was replaced by Apocalypse. SFA was a rare park woth four water rides until 2011. Renegade Rapids is a rather uneventful raft ride, so I wouldnt have much issue with it being replaced. Penguins is just a piece of spinning garbage. Its awful. Id love that to be replaced with a decent coaster or expansion, but it seems unlikely. Shipwreck Falls is really the only decent water ride.

Seriously you sound like such an entitled enthusiast. I don't even want to counter your points because I see no purpose. Just chill and remember that CF corporate knows infinitely more about Valleyfair and the amusement industry than an enthusiast on a forum does. Edit: wait... I'm not even clear on your position on this -
Tempests will not be comparable to Verbolten in any way. Verbolten is, for all intents and purposes, a family coaster. That doesn't mean it isn't thrilling or a great launched coaster, but it is nothing like Tempesto. I don't have any issue with this being a clone. The capacity might be iffy, but with the extra car and a promise for fast dispatches, after some of the hype dies off I don't see it being an issue. The park said themselves this is not a major investment, so I don't think the argument of "this feels cheap" is valid. Personally I think it is a good choice for BGW's coaster lineup. It's not meant to be their star attraction at all, so why critique it as if it were?

Are you new to: 1. The Internet? 2. April Fools Day? 3. The World? 4. Jokes? Ok I'll give you that one But in all seriousness our old iPad has had issues with links, so I thought this was one of those times. Apparently not! -

Umm... I'm missing something here. The return of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up," the ride?
