This. The first time I said the words "upstop wheels" my buddy stopped me and said "This isn't stuff you learn from liking roller coasters and browsing a few websites, this is like years and years acquiring knowledge." I explained more about what they are and he lightened up to really understanding it all soon after, but it was funny nonetheless. He actually also has an account on here with no posts under "BlackbeardsLTT" after I explained Boldikus' love (and mine) for Skull Mountain, he wanted to revolutionize his own cult following.

I geeked out a lot with my buddy at Great Adventure for a couple days. We talked on the long drive up and I explained some basic stuff and he seemed pretty interested. By the end of the two days he had a decent understanding of how El Toro is so much better in the back and in the afternoon, and at one point I got on the topic of upstop wheels after he noticed it farting a lot. Anyways he started out this year with no coaster knowledge and now he knows B&M, Intamin, RMC, etc., and after that weekend I convinced him to buy a 2016 Cedar Fair platinum pass and we're in the planning stages of a Cedar Point/Kings Island/Kentucky Kingdom week long trip next summer. This is the closest I've come to "converting" (that sounds super weird) someone and I don't plan to try it again because it takes a really specific type of person that you'd have to know somehow in advance would care at all.

These are once again some really awesome shots. They really capture what Cedar Point is all about and its beauty that a lot of people overlook as just an oversized landscaping budget. I have plans for a three days at Cedar Point next June and these reports get me so excited, just way too early -
One man from SFNE makes little to no difference in how that park is run overall. It's the culture of the park and the staff and management as a whole that determines how a park is run. It's almost insulting to say that one man, who wasn't even Park President, is responsible for SFNE to have slow operations or be responsible for the removal of flat rides over the last decade. Seriously it's ridiculous to think that, and I wouldn't be worried at all about how St Louis will be run in the future.

I'm interested to see if they trade Rougarou or Gatekeeper for Valravn on the additional FL+ rides. I don't see them keeping five rides on FL+ and from what I've heard, there's really no need to keep the two B&M's on that list. -

Hello! I know y'all are excited, but please help us out and credit the source of your photos, especially when the park is closed. It helps maintain the integrity of the sources of information. Thanks, and more photos to come! Tony I just have to say I absolutely love what you do for the enthusiasts. It would be even more amazing if you posted on here regularly As for vertical construction, I imagine they're looking to get as much done before the harsh winter sets in. I think this project is way bigger than many of us are thinking--of course you have the worlds tallest, longest dive coaster, but the reconfiguring of the paths, new landscaping, new Marina gate, etc. Oh, and that tunnel -
Unrelated to Fright Fest discussion but does anyone know/remember the "Theme Park Maniacs" that visit Great Adventure and other nearby US parks pretty much daily? They're known for chanting really loud on rides so you'd know if you've seen them (I persoanlly have at Bizarro). If you know what I'm talking about or have more information on their current situation I'd like more information if that's appropriate. If you have no idea what I'm talking about please try not to say anything about them as this is more of a serious post.

^It has more to do with the properties of the hills themselves. More turns creates more friction, which cuts off energy. If my understanding is correct, higher velocity (lower to the ground) is more impacted by friction. So yes, the lower it the ground, the more quickly it loses speed. Another way too at it is friction only impacts kinetic energy, not potential, and a train has the same total energy (kinetic and potential) whether it is elevated and slow or fast and low. Excuse me for nerding out there lol. -

I saw someone tagged in a link to a news story covering the Valravn announcement, claiming it as the worlds's tallest and fastest coaster. My facebook "friend" that was tagged began a discussion with his family members under the comments after they kept calling him "Mr. Coaster junkie" lol (Personally I'd be embarrassed for my facebook friends to see my family call me that on the internet where everyone can see). What's worse is that "Mr. Coaster Junkie" replied. "Weird, this doesn't look taller than the Kingda Ka." Edit: spelling. -
Normally I'd consider this a downside but for me, a standup coaster that doesn't provide strong forces doesn't provide strong pain, and I'm perfectly fine with that. I think you missed the joke lol. I was saying that any part of the ride that is smooth is forceless--which is limited to the brake run. Everything else is just so much "ow" and slow and boring. The ratio is headbanging to speed and force is way too high, particularly exiting the corkscrew.
-
Of those that I have ridden, they're all at SFA. Which may be the reason I just spent $200 on a Cedar Fair platinum pass and not $50 on the same thing at Six Flags. B&M--Apocalypse. What about this ride is enjoyable? The smooth parts are forceless, the rest is everything except the brake run. Intamin--Superman:ROS. The drop is *okay* in the back, the bunny hops are decent. The rest is really, really mediocre, especially considering what this ride is and what is could be. It's an Intamin mega coaster built the same year as as Superman/Bizarro/Superman and MilF. Huh. GCI--Roar. Granted I need to ride more of these, but consensus is that now that Gwazi's gone (pending Wildcat), this is the worst. I just saw the above posts while I was tying this and I can absolutely say with a straight face that I prefer Skull Mountain in the back to Superman.

Maybe I'm riding different B&M hypers than you guys, but I've always found them to have at least respectable *amounts* of airtime. Quality or type of airtime is something else entirely, but I've found Nitro in particular to sustain pretty well with a solid three seconds of floater on the major hills. That said of course there are other rides with better airtime, but in terms of sheer quantity of airtime, regardless of how weak it may be, B&M hypers aren't too shabby.

He did say at the end of the blog post that they'll return to their original colors from 1994 and 2003... So are Raptor's supports going back to the green they were when it debuted, or the teal-like thing try have been for many years now? -

Fantastic, thanks! For anyone that knows, does a 2016 platinum pass with dining include 2 meals at all CF parks, or just KD? If it includes all its a great deal as I'm looking at doing a Cedar Point/Kings Islamd trip in the summer. -
^I would agree except for me the first drop is one of the better parts of the ride for me, and I don't expect much from stand ups on the first drop. No, it's not very steep, but you get a great sense of height being so close to Superman and looming over the parking lot (which actually does help this aspect, although I hate it's location otherwise). Excluding the leg pain that can be pretty annoying throughout the ride, Green Lantern actually has a really good first half. If it ended there I might kinda like the ride.

In few days I'll be ordering a 2016 Platinum pass. Looking on the website it says Platinum passes include early entry--does KD have early entry? Is this separate from the 30 minute early entry for Dominator that day ticket guests have access to? Speaking of, looking at using the free 2015 visit on Friday. With the park opening at 10:30, is the Dominator early entry still valid during Haunt? Thanks everyone. -

^To clarify that, from RMC's Facebook Q&A, a question about working at a Cedar Fair park was posed, and RMC's page replied, "We would love to work at Cedar Point!!!" To me it's interesting that they didn't just provide the standard, "We'd love to work with any client that contacts us." And that they specified Cedar Point... it's all very interesting, even if it is nothing. And to the OP, no that's completely false. Never did they say they are planning on working at CP or that anything is confirmed. -

^Should I anticipate larger crowds because of the holiday the following Monday and longer hours, or comparable to most Fridays? I'm trying to determine if this is the best day to go for a long day of riding and decent lines for Haunt mazes as I'm somewhat flexible in my schedule.
