  9. I miss when this thread's title used to be "Marineland animals suffering, former staffers say"
  10. What possible financial gain would this park get from moving that entire ride to another section of the park?
  11. Why does it feel like anytime there is even a hint of expansion at any park, enthusiasts bust out the biggest crack pipe they can find and just start slamming back rocks?
  12. Which is weird, because they're always open on Black Friday. Edit: actually the calendar says they're open on Thanksgiving, and the day after. There is no f*cking way they are going to be open for Thanksgiving and Christmas days. This is 110% a typo/coding error. I feel like this happens every year. Wasn't it last year people didn't think they were doing HITP anymore because it wasn't on the calendar when released? And then a few weeks later it magically appeared? Anyways, if this actually does happen, I'll happily eat my words and assist Bill in getting his buzz on. Wouldn't be the first time.
  13. OMG its clearly a typo. Just like the 6pm closings all summer. Calm down.
  14. https://www.sixflags.com/america/newsroom/new-park-president New Park President Named for Six Flags America & Hurricane Harbor Bowie, MD — February 2, 2021 — Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, the world’s largest regional theme park company and the largest operator of waterparks in North America, today announced that Richard Pretlow has been named park president of the company’s Maryland- based Six Flags America theme park and Hurricane Harbor waterpark. Pretlow succeeds Rick Howarth who was promoted to a new role of vice president of procurement after more than 10 years at the helm of Six Flags America. Pretlow most recently served as director of in-park services at Six Flags Great Escape Resort, located in Lake George, N.Y. “We are thrilled to have Richard guiding the Six Flags America team into the next decade of growth for this dynamic property. He brings a fresh perspective, proven track record of success, an understanding of the market, and a collaborative leadership style that will serve him well as park president,” said Six Flags Regional Vice President of Park Operations Chris Thorpe. “I am confident he will make an immediate, positive impact as we continue our work to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic stronger than ever.” Pretlow began his theme park career in 2009, at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, in culinary operations, where he found his passion for the theme park industry. After graduating from Hampton University in 2010, he relocated to Langhorne, Pa. as culinary operations manager at Busch Gardens’ sister park, Sesame Place, before departing to become the revenue manager for the Crayola Experience, based in Easton, Pa. He joined the Six Flags team in 2018 as director of in-park services at Six Flags Great Escape Resort, prior to being promoted to this latest role. Pretlow also holds an MBA from Norwich University. “It is an honor to join the vibrant and innovative Six Flags America & Hurricane Harbor team,” said Richard Pretlow. “We have made major investments in this park in recent years and we are well-positioned for long-term growth. I look forward to working with the team to continually enhance the guest experience and solidify our status as the preferred entertainment provider in the DMV.” Six Flags America will open for its 22nd season on March 6, 2021—the earliest opening in park history. The 2021 Season will offer more opportunities than ever for families to spend time together in a safe, outdoor environment.
  15. Kings Dominion had the exact same capacity restrictions as BGW did, 1000 people. Google news search for articles about KD from last summer and they all mention this. They were both able to open at the same time last August - Busch made it work, KD sat on their hands and continues to do so. I'm 110% with Bill on this one. He likes to twist the knife a bit in the name of humor, but its totally warranted in this case. I can't help but wonder wtf CF has been thinking.
  16. Couple of screen shots with better angles from the news reel. Looks like its the entire front entrance/arcade/offices/etc
  17. Also, in more bad amusement related news coming out of Ocean City this week (posting here as I don't believe we have a Gillians thread): Gillian's Wonderland Pier in Ocean City ordered to be put up for auction https://pressofatlanticcity.com/news/local/gillians-wonderland-pier-in-ocean-city-ordered-to-be-put-up-for-auction OCEAN CITY — The Cape May County sheriff last Thursday ordered Gillian’s Wonderland Pier to be put up for auction, though its owner says that is not happening. Court documents confirm the Boardwalk amusement pier, owned by Mayor Jay Gillian, defaulted on $8 million in loans. In the report, Gillian said he has secured financing for the property, and it will not be put up for auction. “We want to reassure our loyal guests that Wonderland Pier will be open for business, as usual, for the upcoming 2021 season,” Gillian said in a Facebook post Monday. “We look forward to another WONDERful summer in America’s Greatest Family Resort.” Gillian did not respond to a request from The Press for comment. The park has been owned and operated by the Gillian family since 1929. Much of the pier’s debt was accrued before the COVID-19 pandemic. A Sept. 17 court filing in the state Superior Court’s Office of Foreclosure shows GILMACO Inc., the company owned by the Gillians, owes First Priority Bank about $8 million in mortgage debt, and has owed at least $7.3 million of it since 2019. Over the following two years, GILMACO took out additional loans, bringing the amount owed over $8 million. The $7.3 million, mentioned in the first count of the civil complaint, was due Aug. 25, 2019, after GILMACO had failed to pay the most recent principal payment of $100,000. With the lack of payment, First Priority Bank claims it is entitled to possession of the property.
