  1. https://www.nj.com/news/2021/07/2-rides-temporarily-shut-down-in-latest-six-flags-incidents.html After two incidents raised red flags at Six Flags Great Adventure last month, a pair of roller coasters at the popular thrill park were temporarily shut down this week following separate complaints that a young boy was injured Wednesday on The Joker and a safety bar had come unfastened Sunday on Nitro. Great Adventure confirmed that The Joker had been shut down temporarily on Wednesday following a report that a young boy had suffered a head injury and was taken by the park’s in-house ambulance service to be checked out at a local hospital. Six Flags said its own personnel and inspectors from the state Department of Community Affairs had done, “full inspections of the ride and found it to be in proper working order,” and that The Joker reopened on Thursday. “We are unable to speculate as to the cause of the reported injury,” the statement read. Denise Zeiger, a 53-year-old Six Flags season pass holder, was at the park with her daughter and 7-year-old grandson on Wednesday, when she said she saw the boy, whose head was bandaged, being taken from The Joker and placed into a nearby ambulance. “This poor mother was distraught,” said Zeiger, who lives in Bristol, Pennsylvania. “My heart broke for her, and I just said, ‘I hope everything’s OK.’ And she just said, ‘I don’t even know yet.’” The park also confirmed that it temporarily suspended operation of its Nitro roller coaster on Sunday, after a complaint that a restraining bar had unfastened. But as in The Joker’s case, Six Flags said the ride was found to be operating properly. “On Sunday, the ride was closed following a guest concern about a lap bar on one train,” the park stated. “All three coaster trains were thoroughly inspected by our maintenance team and found to be in proper working order. The ride was reopened with the other two trains. A DCA ride inspector reviewed the final train on Monday and found it to be in proper working order. The ride has been operating as designed with all three trains since Monday.” This week’s incidents follow two others at the Jackson Township thrill park, including a June 29 partial derailment on the El Toro roller coaster, and a June 13 mishap on the Saw Mill log flume ride. On El Toro, a steel wheel on the sixth and last cart of a train dislodged from its proper position before the train came to a stop at a low-lying dip in the track, according to an incident report obtained by NJ Advance Media from the state Department of Community Affairs, which regulates theme parks. No injuries were reported. Passengers were guided off the train, and no injuries were reported. The El Toro incident remained under review, or “red tagged,” this week, and has not been permitted to resume operating, according to the Department of Community Affairs. The log flume incident involved one of the log-shaped boats hanging over perilously after glancing off a broken guide rail while rushing down the narrow, four-story spillway. Two riders were taken to a local hospital for observation. Repairs were made and the log flume was allowed to resume operations, the DCA said. “Engineers in DCA’s Carnival and Amusement Ride Safety Unit reviewed the ride’s engineering documents and were satisfied with the repairs made to the ride,” the DCA said in a statement. “DCA inspectors conducted an inspection of the repaired ride on July 9 and placed the ride back in operation that day.” The DCA publishes theme park safety tips on its website, urging guests to make sure their seatbelt, shoulder harness, lap bar or chains are fastened; secure all clothing and personal items; and follow the instructions of ride operators.
  2. There is a new(er) statement from the park going around, not sure if its cool to share the direct source but w/ some quick sleuthing you should easily find it. No other news that we haven't heard yet is mentioned in the article, and its possible she said this just so people stop asking, but its slightly encouraging?
  3. The park hasn't released any info about Toro, so anything you hear is just hearsay. I've heard back-up-in-a-month to not-til-next-season. Either way, it most definitely will not be open Friday. JDC possibly, but I'd temper your expectations and assume it will be closed, that way if it is operating it will be a pleasant surprise.

  5. Man, what a year for parks. Rabid fox attacks two people at Busch Gardens Williamsburg https://www.13newsnow.com/article/news/health/rabid-fox-attacks-two-people-at-busch-gardens-williamsburg/ JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. — Health officials said a rabid fox attacked two people who were at Busch Gardens Williamsburg Monday. The Hampton-Peninsula Health District said the fox died shortly after the attack. The health district asked that anyone who has information about any possible exposure to the fox to call the health district. An exposure can be a bite or scratch. It also can involve contact with saliva by open wound or eyes, nose, or mouth.
  6. Jersey Devil Coaster on Monday afternoon.
  7. Yeah not so sure about "very soon" https://www.nj.com/ocean/2021/07/rear-wheels-moved-out-of-position-in-six-flags-roller-coaster-derailment-report-finds.html A Department of Community Affairs incident report obtained by NJ Advance Media shed some more light on what happened when a train on the El Toro rollercoaster at Six Flags Great Adventure partially derailed last week. The ride remained shut down this week as officials continued to probe what caused the incident. However, the report contained more details about what happened last week at the Jackson amusement park. On June 29 at 4:23 p.m., a train on the El Toro ride failed to return to the station after it stopped a few yards before the “brake run” and the ride was locked down three minutes later before it was cleared at 4:45 p.m., the report stated. Video of the incident posted to YouTube showed a train of six empty cars stopped on the tracks just ahead of an incline. People were on the ride during the mishap, but a spokeswoman for the Jackson theme park, Kristin Fitzgerald, said no guests were hurt and said the carts did not derail. While the ride was in motion, the rear wheels of “Car A6″ of the train “came out of their normal position on the rails,” according to the report. It was unclear exactly when this happened but the train traveled most of the ride with the wheels in this position. During the ride, an axle of the vehicle damaged its rear wheel assembly, as well as the wood and steel bolts of the track, officials said. The report stated that the cause of the partial derailment had not yet been identified and that a “detailed track gauge and track steel inspection” was still in the works. “El Toro will not reopen until DCA is provided with a report by the ride manufacturer indicating what caused the derailment as well as how to mitigate the issue,” DCA spokeswoman Lisa Ryan said last week.
  8. I haven't gotten FP at this park in ages just because its close and I do things like yesterday where we got there super early, rode a couple things, sat and ate/drank for an hour, then rode a few more things and left mid-afternoon, but I'm here often enough so I should know this stuff. Let's see how I do... Nitro, Bizarro, Batman, Runaway Mine Train and JDC have their own dedicated FP stairs and dump you into the station. Ka, Superman and Toro both merge a little bit before the station stairs/ramp but its usually not too much longer than ^ these unless its slammed and the merge attendant is doing a crappy job pulsing the line. Zum & Wonder Woman don't have stairs but their FP lines dump you into the station for Zum and loading area for WW. Skull Mountains FP line is up the exit. Jokers is when they split to each side but again, if the merge attendant is pulsing properly the wait is minimal from this point in my experience. The Dark Knight I honestly forget how they do FP here. Don't ask me about Green Lantern, its been at least 5 years since I've ridden it. I feel like the merge point is before the stairs, hopefully someone else will clarify for me. I think that's everything. Unless its just flat out insanely packed (like yesterday) Gold usually gets the job done.
  9. Prob 30ish minutes, which included a 5-10 minute breakdown. The line never stops moving. For all the whining about capacity w/ these raptors, the crew had all four trains on and were absolutely chewing through the line.
  10. Park is packed today, we’re actually leaving it’s so crowded. Did finally manage a back seat ride on JDC, my first raptor… fantastic!
  11. Current Toro status Also just raced a Ka train on Zum and what an upgrade that is.
  12. All the pussies who can't handle Skyrush will be eternally grateful.
  13. The park won't close rides (except Kingda Ka) due to rain. Only if there is low attendance and it is raining. I haven't gotten Flash Pass at this park in years so can't comment.
  14. Just hear-say at the moment, but apparently Skyrush's lift cable snapped today. Not a good week for Intamins in our area. :/
  15. Just curious how you were certain it wasn't a photo that just happened to be taken while the ride was upside down?
  16. ^ Loving all the new videos, Robb! Unrelated... https://www.app.com/story/news/local/emergencies/2021/06/30/state-shut-roller-coaster-el-toro-nj-six-flags-after-derailment/ JACKSON - The state Department of Community Affairs has brought the El Toro roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure to a halt as it investigates what it is calling the partial derailment of the wooden coaster. No one was injured when the 15-year-old ride stopped during a run about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. A video posted on social media purportedly shows the train stationary on the tracks and the rear wheels of the rear car elevated. Kristin Fitzgerald, spokeswoman for Six Flags Great Adventure, said there was no derailment. “The train’s safety systems worked as designed and the train remained on the track,” she said in an email. But the Department of Community Affairs has "red tagged" the ride, meaning it has removed it from operation and placed it under an engineering review. "The rear up-stop wheel, which prevents the train from lifting, came up on top of the rail," DCA spokeswoman Lisa Ryan said. "El Toro will not reopen until the DCA is provided with a report by the ride manufacturer indicating what caused the derailment as well as how to mitigate the issue," Ryan added that an inspector from then DCA’s Carnival-Amusement Ride Safety Unit was on site Wednesday and has not yet found the cause.
  17. Not directed at anyone in particular but its relevant to the conversation: there are plenty of really good light beers, but Yeungling is just not one of them.
  18. I never said Dunkin was amazing, I just implied it was better than the overpriced mud-brew that Starbucks peddles.
  19. Right because if its on reddit (of all places) its likely true, right? There are folks on there saying it derailed at the beginning of the ride and fishtailed down the first drop and through the course. Y'all actually believe that it made it through the entire course if that was what happened? And if so have you all actually ridden El Toro? Anyway, there is a conflicting report from an "apparent employee" that it did not in fact derail but that the front left road wheel blew out early in the ride, which if true would explain the smoke and the fact that it managed to make it through most of the course without catastrophic failure/killing people. My point is none of us know what happened or how bad this was, in spite of the fact that the social media park maintenance experts are out in full force on this one.
