I didn't know there was so much Roar hate. I like Roar better than Apocalypse. New GCI coasters seem to stay lower after the drop and carry more speed, but Roar does that for the last half of the ride. The turn around after the drop might not be the best, but the straight hill after that is a lot of fun, and so is the hill coming out of the 2nd turn around. they may not be super airtime hills but its more airtime than you get on the low and fast turns of Apocalypse (just sit near the back). I also still love that small bump and turn in Roar's tunnel, it's the best part. I'm glad to see this ride doesn't have the pointless GCI station fly though. This ride was probably designed before they started doing that.

Not at all complaining about a new coaster, but I still think building this was a really strange thing coming from the people at Cedar Fair. The only claims this ride can make is that its 14ft taller and 3mph faster than the one an hour away that has been there for 13 years. GCI coasters are great rides but I can't help thinking they should have built something a bit more unique compared to SFDK.

I think the people at MiceChat are way more ridiculously demanding than the people here are. I still go there to see whats going on around Disneyland but their forums are nothing but the same topics over and over and people wondering when the PeopleMover is coming back (never). There is even a quote from some imagineer saying its never coming back but then they spin what he says to make it still sound possible.

OK here is my Superman and I guess Zonga inspired answer to that rumor. Don't pay attention to the forces n stuff. Realistically I think what SoCalCoaster drew is probably more likely, but where the top hat would cross over to the other side of the loop, so that it follows the spine of the loop track better.

I'm remaining positive. I think they may have used the term one trick pony kinda harshly. I think there could still be more to this ride, just that this element will stand out as the defining aspect. People don't consider Xcelerator a crappy one trick pony do they (hope its longer than Xcelerator)? I made a video of what I think this element could be. It's based on what they have done with Superman at SFDK, and while I made it pretty quickly and crapily it seems entirely possible. Will post when its done uploading.

That actually sounds really cool if there is a lot more to the ride than that. If that is indeed true I wonder if it will be back 2 back like one element, or 2 different parts of the ride just built together. A top hat with a 180 deg twist directly into a loop would be nuts. In my head though, the transition into the loop would be too tight.

It's an all you can eat pizza place that is indoors with a couple rides like bumper cars n stuff. I think there is a couple of them. It's like a Chuck e Cheese with rides. Roseville actually used to have something quite a lot like this a long time ago but without the food. It was called Playland or something like that.

While I guess they could have gone with something else, it's possible that Maurer Sohne doesn't necessarily make custom versions of this ride. It looks like they make about 3 models, and the one at Disney is the most custom one they have made. Getting a completely different design would no doubt have added a significant extra cost, and for this type of ride it probably wouldn't make the experience any different. Sure those that know would notice the route was unique but the average SCBB going person wouldn't care at all. This ride should also be pretty easy to sell if and when the time comes, a custom design fit to their space much less so. This is a designed to fit in a tight space, is what it is type of ride.

Walt Disney World Epcot Discussion Thread

I don't think this really says anything new. I hate when people do interviews like this and they only answer one part of the question, more or less everything was answered by the end though. I thought it was funny how she said it's not really influenced by Tron and is just their idea of what inside a computer looks like. Look at that image with the cloudy sky and lightning bolt, that's 100% Tron right there. I completely understand the reason for this 'reshaping', but I don't think it is going to change the ride one bit. I already enjoy Test Track, and while change is nice I don't think this is going to make the overall experience any better. -
Oh wow, an entire TR of fish eye photos lol. I know you said you were just messing around, but a fish eye really should only be used when it is needed. Sometimes just having the effect is needed, but I mean when it would be relatively hard to get everything you want in the shot otherwise. Owning a fish eye lens is dumb unless your a skateboard photographer or something. it's a rent when need type of thing. I have one of these though and it works well enough for me, it screw on like a filter to any lens you want. They are like $50 or something. They come in multiple pieces and using each of the pieces in different ways with different lenses provides a lot of different outcomes. Some of your shots are really cool. I like the Margaritaville one and some others. The Sponge bob one is funny.

I'm pretty sure all their air power rides, including their towers are attached to cables. That's what actually pulls the vehicle. -

New Amusement Park planned for... Tracy, CA?
SLUSHIE replied to XYZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nut Tree now is nothing more than a glorified shopping center for locals. There is no reason to stop there unless your need some dog food from Petsmart, or it just happens to be the place you decide to pull over to get food on your way back to Sac from SF. The In n Out is on the other side of the freeway and not a part of Nut Tree though. -
Keep in mind I think I have only ridden the new trains once or twice, and have probably ridden the ride less than 10 times all together. The new trains are certainly better, but they don't necessarily fix any one problem, they just reduced them and not by a huge amount in my opinion. The rotation is still 'rocky,' the arms still bounce and the ride itself is still very rough. Overall the ride is more ride-able, but I myself didn't find it anymore enjoyable. Don't take my opinion as sound though, I know there are many people out there that like it. I don't think roughness makes a bad ride, I still enjoy Viper, but Viper's roughness is a jerk here and there and X IS a jerk.

New Amusement Park planned for... Tracy, CA?

So am I the only person that considers an hour to 2 hour drive not all that far? I grew up living 2 hours from Tahoe and 2 hours from SF. In the winter I would take day trips to Tahoe weekly, and would take 'night' trips to SF for concerts n stuff all the time. I'm not talking about driving from any of those airports out to this resort, I'm talking about travel around the bay area to see all the different places and not this resorts emulation of them. Maybe it's the way I was raised, but when my family would take vacations we wouldn't just sit in one place the whole time. I've never been on a vacation where I didn't have a rental car. They say this place is mainly for people in the region, but I think locals are going to be way harder to convince that this is anything worthwhile when they probably already live closer to the real thing of one of the places they plan to provide. -
X is the one ride were I cringe in fear of pain the whole way around. I'm sure part of the problem is that I have never ridden on and inside seat, I am always too nice to the people I go with. The thing is jerky, bouncy and rough and there is very little you can do to brace for it. It might not actually be all that painful but I still don't find it all that enjoyable. I probably enjoy it just as much as I enjoy the average SLC.

I don't think anyone is saying the coasters in CA, or MM specifically suck, just none of them really stand out as being really good rides. Sure we have more coasters than other states, but most other states have at least one stand out really good coaster. I personally would take quality over quantity or uniqueness. I could ride Kumba or Montu all day and still love them. If I rode X all day I would want to kill myself (if it didn't do it for me).
-
I agree, living in CA my whole life I'm sure I have a different view than those on the outside looking in. While We do have a number of unique rides that are the only of their kind in the US, we still lack anything that is a truly good ride. CA certainly makes up for it in other areas though. I'm sure this new ride will be fun, but I'm sure it will still focus on being unique rather than just being a good all around ride.

The 26 year wait for a ride..
SLUSHIE replied to caffeine_demon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm still upset about missing out on (what was then) Superman at SFNE. We went well out of our way to go there from RI to Boston, only to have it be closed. Apparently the ride had been down for about a week due to something with the lift hill. I haven't been back out that way since then. Really a bummer getting so close to what was considered the best coaster in the world and not getting to ride it. The only ride I went on was Cyclone and then it started to rain and we just decided to leave. -
Disneyland Paris (DLP) Discussion Thread
SLUSHIE replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think that refers to the debt and not bad management. It actually kinda says management is doing a good job, in the part where it says they increased the parks profitability. Disney will receive more of the profits and can therefor pay the debt off faster. -
Disneyland Paris (DLP) Discussion Thread

Buying the company doesn't mean that they are going to change the management at all, or even make any changes. It just means that they will own it and then I guess they get to keep more of the profits that the park receives. Key sentence.
