Video Game Hardware sales for Nov 06
Cameron replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
^ High-school kids are idiots (no offense ) of course they're going to fall for all the PS3 marketing guff. Because they're cheap! A lot of PS2s are becoming presents for little kids, and the kid game market on that system is booming. And I have to agree with Elissa that the DS is one of the best systems around .. I can't really think of anything it's missing or got wrong.. Cameron (Still Wii-less) Silver. -
Nintendo being sued for patent infringement

Two thirds of all the gaming hardware sold in Japan is the Nintendo DS .. Sony and Microsoft wish they were that big! Cameron. -
Some of these .. oh my: homepage.ntlworld.com/ashen1/ashen/menu/swars.htm Sample: The look on his face .. I mean how to put that into words?! Cameron.

^^ Well like I said, it was a pretty mild storm. But even so, we never really get serious storms in Chicago .. just nut-busting cold (was 3 degrees this morning). Cameron.

^^ I have no idea what colour pen was used to sign the backglass, sorry! But I trust Dwight, so I'm sure it'll stand out. That would be me, yes .. (I also did Star Wars Episode 1, but for some reason people are never too excited about that! ) The "Kahuna Team" with Jake Lloyd (who played Anakin Skywalker). This was taken at a Star Wars convention in Denver in May 1999. Myself standing in between John Popadiuk (the game designer) on the right, and Jim Shird (manager of the whitewood lab) on the left. We working on the second version of the Cirqus playfield (called a whitewood since there's no art). (Winter 1996/1997) "Team Stiff" with Elvira at the coin-op trade show in Dallas in the fall of 1996 (wow, long time ago!) -
^ Agreed! There's a street near where I work on which the Alderman lives, and it's always ploughed and cleared before anything else! Actually Chicago really doesn't get a lot of snow .. maybe only 3 or 4 big storms per winter. I suspect most of this snow will be gone soon and we won't get more until next year. Typically Michigan (on the eastern side of the Lake) and northwest Indiana typically get hammered. So I think the lake protects us a bit too. My town (Evanston) borders the lake, and we received significantly less snow than areas further west, since the lake warms the air and futzes with the wind and such. We had that too! Pushing 70 degrees over the long weekend! Totally rocked.. Sorry! Although I'm sure that fart I let out had dissolved by the time it reached you! Well not everyone is as hot as you, Jahan! Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. If I remember next summer, I will take all these same photos so you can compare seasons. Cameron.

Great video .. This site needs more pinball! I sent a copy to Dennis and Dwight at Stern (who designed the game) and they were pretty happy. In fact there's an autographed backglass with your name on it (literally!) waiting for you. Cameron (blaa blaa blaa .. pinball) Silver. -
Last night in chat there was some talk (among the cool Midwest crew) who were discussing an approaching snow-storm. I mentioned that some freezing rain had begun to fall, and someone (I think it was Mark) asked me if that's the same as hail. Well a bit of a long discussion ensued (far longer than Mark had probably intended), the result of which was that hail is balls of ice, and freezing rain is much like sleet. Of course the question then arose: "what is sleet". Anyway it made me realize that our poor friends out in California never have the pleasure of playing with snow. Well, unless they go skiing (lucky bastards!), but that's still not the same as actually living with it. I love the snow, and particularly love snow storms; however I was skeptical as to how big a storm was brewing simply because the stupid media loves to over-forecast this early in the season. (Seriously, they were advising people to run out to the store and stock up because they could be snowed in for days - sad thing is that people were actually doing it!!). Anyway .. I awoke this morning to the sound of my two UPS's beeping wildly because the power was out. It actually took me a few seconds to figure out what was going on, since the power in my neighborhood has failed maybe only 2 or 3 times in the 11 years I've lived there. Since the power was out, I had no way of getting my car out of the garage (actually there is a manual release, but don't tell work that), so I took the opportunity to go for a walk and take some photos for the Californians ... and everyone else who gets to miss out on these fun little events. The Chicago river where it runs behind the building at work. That bridge in the distance is Belmont Ave. Well into Chicago now (still on Western Ave), and you can see the city does a totally awesome job of clearing the streets. Downside of LED traffic lights! The LEDs don't generate heat, so the snow doesn't melt off the lenses. The lights are actually red, but they're so hard to see it made driving difficult. This guy is parked (illegally) on Western Ave in Chicago. The ploughs have been going by all night throwing snow, ice, salt, rocks and all sorts of crap all over his car. Driving to work now. You can see the road is a little slushy, but for the most part it's not bad at all. Once I crossed over the boarder into Chicago (1.5 miles), the roads were excellent. One of the City Of Evanston salt/plough trucks hard at work. Evanston is usually pretty bad about ploughing the streets, but they were doing a pretty good job today. I hope those signs aren't important! Another shot of downtown Evanston. Wanker artistic photo... (It's a fence). Hey, at least I didn't make it black and white! Looking out over Lake Michigan .. This is a dog beach, and in warmer weather it's full of people and dogs (duh). There are people beaches too, just north and south of here. I'm standing right next to the lake, and the warmer air keeps the snow almost melting. It's about 3 inches deep, and with the consistency of a slurpee. Looking east along Church Street .. I'm walking to the lake. It looks like a scene from a bad Christmas TV Movie! However, life goes on! This is a busy little downtown area, the shops are getting deliveries for Friday and the weekend. Looking into downtown Evanston. The snow is pretty (along with the Christmas decorations), but it also makes everything sort of quiet and peaceful. I was struck by how awesome this tree looks. The snow isn't heavy, the tree always weeps like that .. in summer it's full of leaves and you can actually hide inside. It would be a fun place to make-out. This guy probably thought he was really smart "I'll get me a bike, then I never have to worry about driving in the snow!!". Loser The scene that greeted me out the front of my building this morning. It's really quite pretty.

Hah .. I didn't even realize it was such an old thread. Jahan pasted a link in chat last night, and you know I'll just blindly click on anything Jahan! Cameron.

I liked Shockwave and actively miss it. I can understand Six Flags decision to take it out for Superman, but I still enjoyed Shockwave more. Cameron. -

^^ Right .. Stay away from the big electronic stores, and go to department stores instead. You shouldn't have any trouble getting one, and you won't look like a loser camping on the sidewalk. Cameron. -
Launch day is near! PS3/Wii-kend Launches.
Cameron replied to Homer's topic in Random, Random, Random
^^^ Target will probably be the best place to pick these up, since everyone flocks to "real" electronic stores .. no-one really thinks about Target. When the 360 came out, I had several friends who just strolled into Target on (or just after) launch day, and found several boxes just sitting there. Cameron (Wii will, Wii will, rock you) Silver. -

My 9 mile drive takes about 25 minutes. When traffic is really bad (snowing or whatever), it'll take as much as 35 minutes. I really like my commute as I get to down Western Ave in Chicago .. which is really a lot of fun. It's two lanes each way (not divided) with people turning left, right, parking, buses, cyclists, construction trucks, etc. It really is fun, like being in a video game. You never know what's going to happen! Cameron.

^^^ I actually started swimming to gain weight! I was so freaking skinny (Six foot tall, 148 pounds!). I've now added 10 pounds to that, and I'm happy with it. I still wear the same size jeans I did in high-school, and for that I am happy! Cameron.
-
I swim up to a mile two or three mornings a week .. and on warm weekends I'll do a 25 mile bike ride. I also like walking .. sometimes I'll embark on a 3 or 4 hour walk. Cameron.

Of course once the turkey baster wins, we will then need a new poll for who filled it up..! Cameron.
