  1. I like that it still has the little bump after the drop that gives you some air time when the bump on Great Adventure's 2nd flume (the one that was near Skull Mountain) was removed long before the ride was closed.
  2. If it was a park on the Atlantic City boardwalk, I could see it drawing an ok crowd with more stores open year round and the casino visitors plus all the shows and concerts. On the Ocean City boardwalk, other than the Christmas store that is close to the park and an arcade or two, I don't think much is open after this weekend. Maybe they think locals will visit?
  3. As someone who recently moved away from the Philadelphia area with Wawa stores everywhere into an area with just Sheetz and no Wawa locations, I would take Wawa any day, it's not even close. I think I have gone to Sheetz twice in the last 6 months. I sometimes usually stop at Wawa after a Great Adventure or Dorney trip to bring back hoagies for me and other family members that also miss Wawa.
  4. Favorite, Disneyland. If it has to be a standard amusement park then I would pick Cedar Point. Least Favorite, Canobie Lake Park. The park itself was ok with some good rides but the operations were the worst I have ever seen in any park I have been to.
  5. They are allowed on all coasters except El Toro and Joker as long as they don't interfere with the restraint from working properly. "Cell phones, pagers, or other small items must be secured in cargo pockets, zippered jacket pockets, or waist packs*. All loose articles which cannot be secured must be left in a locker or with a non-rider prior to entering the queue line. *Waist packs are not permitted on El Toro." https://www.sixflags.com/greatadventure/plan-your-visit/park-policies The website hasn't been updated to mention Joker but I saw it on a sign at the ride entrance yesterday.
  6. I just got back from the park and like usual, had a good visit. Skull Mountain was not using VR and it's only being used on Friday - Sunday, I didn't mind since the station was empty and I was able to ride 4 times in a row. The 5th car is no longer blocked off for Flash Pass and now Flash Pass merges in the station at the front. The Flash Pass entrance is under the lift hill and the hallway is not covered so there is a lot of light in the first part of the lift hill area and now the ride area is brighter than ever and you can see most of the track easily (even though it wasn't that difficult to see the track before this change). Dinner and snacks with the dining pass are now valid until 9 p.m. I would still like to see the snack available until closing but at least it's better than 8 p.m. like it was before. Superman was closed the entire day, Kingda Ka was closed part of the time with 2 trains running when it did reopen. Crowds were low for the most part. Joker's line was almost to the 90 minute sign and Kingda Ka had a few switchbacks full but mostly everything else was 20 minutes or less. 2 of the trails were closed and there were no ride greeters at the coaster entrances so bags were allowed to be left in the station.
  7. It likely won't be walk ons but not very crowded either. I went on Rosh Hashannah a few years ago on a Thursday and most rides were 10 to 20 minutes. Kingda Ka was the exception at 45 minutes.
  8. Definitely: Great Adventure Dorney Park Hersheypark Knoebels Probably: Money's Piers Playland's Castaway Cove Possibly: SFNE Lake Compounce
  9. The park isn't open this Friday unless you have a ticket for the buyout.
  10. I could see it being worth it for someone that only visits once a year or less. When I visit a park that I have never been to and know I won't be returning to anytime soon, I am prepared to buy it if the park is crowded.
  11. The reviews of Hurricane Harbor are enough to keep me away. Not enough tubes for the slides and lazy river and people walking through the river sounds annyoing. I have also heard that even with Flash Pass you can wait 15 to 20 minutes on the stairs past the merge points. I'd rather go to Dorney where there are plenty of free tubes for the slides and 2 lazy rivers and more slides overall.
  12. It's probably the 2nd busiest weekend of the year after Columbus Day weekend.
  13. It's good if you don't mind that there are no Halloween attractions. The park is decorated and some light displays at night but that is it. It is a good value with cheaper admission and just The Boardwalk closed and best of all crowds are usually low except on Saturday nights. I went to the park on a Sunday in October a few years ago and everything except Fahrehnheit was 5 minutes or less. It's nice Coal Cracker will be open, I see they also added Wild Mouse for Christmas Candylane although without any of the Intamin coasters or Great Bear open, I would still rather go to Great Adventure.
  14. 2013 was the first year that they started running Fright Fest earlier that year. They even had the park open on Friday nights in September that year that were really empty. http://www.greatadventurehistory.com/GAPubs/New2013Brochure/2013PanelFront.jpg 2012 they had Fright Fest start on the 22nd and on 2011 not until October 1st.
  15. Last year I got a grilled chicken sandwich at the Yum Yum Cafe, the roll was stale and it was only the 2nd day of the season.
  16. I hope Thunder Creek Mountain isn't already closed for the season. On Monday, the ride was drained and none of the logs were in the trough and off to the side near the lift hill. It might have just been closed because they didn't have enough ride operators too with some water slides and the 2nd lazy river closed as well. It was the same with White Water Landing since last week but I somewhat expected that with the queue being used for a Haunt maze.
  17. That is bring a friend free weekend for the theme park which will make the park extremely crowded. What could happen is if a lot of people are passholders with Hurricane Harbor included, they might just go there instead rather than deal with the crowds in the theme park. It is also likely that Hurricane Harbor won't be running at full capacity (at the minimum I would expect part of the lazy river closed and probably at least 1 slide tower closed) so even if it isn't that crowded, lines could still be long with fewer rides open.
  18. Great pictures, that little drop on Thundercreek Mountain at the top gets me every time. It seems like a wave of water hits the entire log.
  19. The park still gets large crowds, on weekends the overflow lot fills up and cars have to park on the grass. It's just that almost everyone there is going to the water park. In the 90s before Great Adventure and Hershey added so many coasters it seemed like Dorney wasn't far behind but now both other parks have much better coaster collections and I feel like most people go to Dorney for the water park and go to the coasters later in the day after the water park closes compared to a park like Great Adventure where the coasters are the main draw.
  20. I like water parks but don't visit them often except when I go to Dorney. When I am visiting a new park like last year at Kings Islamd and Cedar Point, my focus was getting all the coasters in and other rides in the dry park I wanted to try. When I visit Dorney when Wildwater Kingdom is open, I usually ride each coaster once, a few flats and spend the majority of my time in the water park and riding the water rides in the amusement park.
  21. Yes, I had wanted to try a suspended coaster for a while and got to ride Bat and Iron Dragon last year. I liked both coasters a lot even though Iron Dragon was kind of tame and wouldn't mind seeing a local park get a suspended coaster.
  22. Friday night isn't usually bad on that weekend either. I remember people posting pictures last year of Sunday of Columbus Day weekend and the traffic was backed up past Wawa on 537 in the afternoon. Monday is usually good especially with the 10 pm closing and 8 - 10 pm are usually walk ons or short waits.
  23. The counter service one near the Sea Dragon is on the dining plan.
  24. If it was the beginning of the season I would pay $99. I spend most of my time in Wildwater Kingdom when I visit during that part of the season and being able to walk right on to all 6 Snake Pit slides and all the other slides offered plus Thunder Canyon would be worth it to me.
