GAME: Manufacturers and their rides

Outlaw Run Dinn woodie -
Posted on the "I'm so sad to call this my home park because of its terrible thread on TPR" forum. I'm sure we can guess which enthusiastic user this came from. I thought Scrambler would come back in 2015, but what's going to replace, the 3 Point Challenge game? This of course ended in the possibility of Ride of Steel being repainted fluorescent beige, and a 20 year old water slide complex with many issues making a return in the middle of Kiddie Land.

No surprise to me at least. Nobody wants Devin around anymore, and Zack is now going to be major competition. Plus Pao Pao made that deal with Devin and it pissed everyone off when it was leaked.

This is the first year that I got hooked on this show. I was wondering if anyone else here watches the show. Is so any thoughts on the season so far?

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

You've just addressed with investments like this are so incredibly important to do right. Parks cannot have things like this fail on them. If you watch the Coaster Net documentary on Outlaw Run you see the CEO of Herschend talk about how it was one of the biggest risks he's taken at any of his properties (which they have over 20 of) and how it took years to decide and implement on. The massive PR campaign that Paula has began and will continue to expand on once the ride is announced isn't just for fun, it's necessary: They need a ROI. Talking about Herschend again there's a reason that they sued Huss for the failed Timber Tower: Even something as simple as a flat ride can cause serious financial implications and needs to be addressed. This brings us back to the discussion about B&M's: They appear to be one of the safest bets in the coaster industry and have been since the early '90's. Building one basically guarantee's you increased success, even if the theme park fan community grumbles about it. Holiday World has purchased three wooden roller coasters from the same design group (basically) and knows very well about making safe yet bold and effective bets in their expansions. I don't see this expansion as being any different. You worded your response very well, and expanded on my idea tremendously. This, although off topic, brings me back to my home park and our dilemma. I'll make it short but sweet. Herschend wants to put an RMC in Darien Lake, but ownership doesn't want to take the risk on the park because everything is in pretty bad shape. But back to HW, this is very important that the park does this right if they are going to build big. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

^^Very true. I knew that Holiday World was popular, but I never realized that they have attendance figures of over a million. Considering that they may have gotten some return from PP, maybe their budget is a little larger than I originally thought. -

But how much more can they really spend is the question? They aren't a large chain park than can jut throw away money. I'm not saying that they are in a crisis or something, but even a million dollars over budget could mean trouble. Edit: I hope that my post doesn't sound incoherent but I'm just trying to piece together some clues. B&M isn't exactly cheap, and it would be a tight squeeze for the budget. -

^^^You are correct in saying that Shiekra costed 13.5 million, but that was in 2005, 10 years before this coaster is set to open. You never took the principle of inflation into consideration. Sheikra today would cost around 16.5 million, and that is over budget for the small park. Unless B&M is giving out some sort of discount or something, that wouldn't work. I'm starting to think that we could see a family coaster of some sorts. -
Sundays are a lot better to visit than Saturdays so you're good there. Depending on the crews working all the coasters besides Motocoaster and Viper shouldn't be too bad. For RoS expect a 30-45 minute wait, same for Predator. Boomerang and Mind Eraser are 20 minutes at the most. Motocoaster and Viper could be at the very least 45 minutes depending in how long the line is. The only flat to worry about is Blast Off where you will wait at least 45 minutes as well. Do you plan on visiting the water park?

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
coasterkid124 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^At least not yet. The reason why they are not more popular is because of complexity and cost. If B&M works out those kinks, we would see them build one for sure. -
^It's been confirmed before that Lake Monster will be a remodel of Predator if it happens. I will try to find the link, but it has been mentioned at a town hall meeting last year. There hasn't been word yet if the idea has been given the green light by the park or town, but we may know soon. If Predator doesn't close by around Fright Fest or so, it isn't likely to happen next season either. There are so many little reasons why the park hasn't pulled the trigger yet.

^Or possibly a combination of both? I don't know if that's even possible. I would be worried about something getting caught in the launch system. But then again, all current floorless coasters use a chain lift. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

I highly doubt that HW goes with any sort of prototype again after the failures of both Giraffica and the Timberliners. The two words that come to my mind when I hear HW are reliability, which was mentioned above, and consistency. Consistency is not only to keep riding the same way, but how long will it be able to continue doing so. Reliability plays a huge role in that. B&Ms are both reliable and consistent, but they have never tried a 4d coaster before. As for Intamin, they lack in reliability, but do better in consistency. Look at Xcelerator for instance, it is very unreliable, yet very consistent when it is operating correctly. I am highly pushing for maybe an LIM B&M. (Yes, I realize that this is a prototype too, but it would be a lot less complex than a 4D system) -

I third this opinion. They may have a lot of coasters, but most are family orientated. However, they do have a great collection of flats with a lot of the older Huss models. Now that Darien Lake removed their UFO, Nightmares is the only one still around. -
Favorite Shuttle Coaster
coasterkid124 replied to Woodie Warrior's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I used to love The Chiller, especially the Robin side. But as for current shuttles, I choose one of the Mr. Freeze coasters. -
Could be a possibility. I remember a member stating previously in the thread that the Crossroads area was next to receive an upgrade. Scrambler and Lake Monster may be the first steps. I still think that UFO's pad is the most likely place for the giant frisbee. I forgot to mention this before, but the locker building in front of Cuda Falls former spot was recently painted a beige color (previously teal), so it may be staying after all. Maybe it will be used as some sort of entrance to the new area or something.
