I think that they may break out one of their ideas from the past guest surveys and install a Metallbau Pony Trek ride. Herschend installed one at Darien Lake in 2012 and it is quite popular. The only issue is the capacity which could lead to over 45 minute waits at times. But it is actually a nice family ride and it would look nice at the park too.

This is a point that has been discussed before but if you remove the go kart track, there is a bunch of room behind for another Cuda Falls size plot maybe a little bigger. With gas prices rising, I don't see a reason to keep the go karts or batting cages unless they are very profitable. With that being said, if the park grows enough in time, could there possibly be another hotel or resort built across the street? Great Escape did an indoor water park years ago and it is very successful. But of course this would take years, possibly near 20, and I don't know if the town would pass it or if there's any other issues that would shoot the idea down.

I don't see this happening.... Yet. 10,000 acres, 4 billion dollars. A company that nobody has ever heard of is not going to be able to do something this massive. However, their work judging on the pictures really looks good. If they can start producing some good movies and products, they may have a start. I just don't ever see that massive of a project happening for any company maybe besides Disney. Where is this company planning on getting the money? In sure that the state isn't going to just throw it at them for something that could fail. If anything, they would have to start out small.

The kiddie area shouldn't be too bad but they may rotate ride ops. Expect a long line for Big Kahuna. It can reach over an hour at points. As for the rest of the rides he may be tall enough for, waits shouldn't be too long especially on rides like the pirate and bumper cars. You're main wait will be for water rides and possibly the Moose on the Loose if you go on that.

Darien does not have unlimited land or height restrictions. Any taller ride put in needs to be okayed by the town first, and the park uses most of its land for the campground, lakes, parking lots, and concert area. The big issue is that no, there isn't as big of a pool to pick from people wise. I'm surprised that the state itself hasn't pushed on the park more to build something bigger. Government officials from NY want people to visit the state in general, and if the park started to build itself back up, you can draw people from Toronto, Pennsylvania, and possibly NYC, and parts of Ohio or Michigan. But nobody is going to take a vacation to the park as it is (not including Canadians in the Fort Erie area or northern PA).

Weekends really pack in the park. So do concerts and events. But there are quite a few slow days in between. And I have to agree with the poster two comments above. Look what we have. 1 Intamin beauty 2 Vekoma clones 1 decent but could be better woodie 1 Arrow 1 Family Zamperla Dying collection of flats. Small but decent water park. If we can get at least a few new toys the park will be a lot better off

Trailered-trains vs non-trailered
coasterkid124 replied to TCSCskater's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, it sounds like you got the jist of it. What trailering does for trains is it allows for them to take up less space, and in some cases make sharper turns and banks. There was only one issue. They ate up the track like crazy, especially on wooden coasters. A good example is Predator at Darien Lake, or Raging Wolf Bobs at the defunct Geauga Lake. If you watched the trains closely, they would shuffle from side to side, making the ride painful, and tearing up the track. The Wolf Bobs are now closed, but in 2010, Darien Lake decided to remove the trailered trains. They were replaced with normal articulated trains previously used on the Voyage. Now the ride runs a lot smoother and is easier on the track. -
I loved last year when they played Space Oddity along with the fire. Looks like they replaced it with more junk songs. But I hate all new music, so to each their own I guess. I think that the song for America worn out its welcome as well. The park did put a lot of effort into upgrading the show though. Looks really nice. I haven't been able to see it yet this year.

I doubt it. CNL runs a strict policy of if it isn't broke, don't fix it. And if it's broke, makeshift fix it. Herschend has done a nice job with upkeep. It's just a shame that CNL doesn't see the potential in the park or want to put the money in. Besides that, we may be seeing more ride removals IMO. I'm thinking that Corn Popper and Ranger could be the next two candidates. Their hydraulic systems have been a nightmare for the maintenance crew. As long as they are replaced with equal or better attractions, it's fine with me

Martin's Fantasy Island sexual assault
coasterkid124 replied to Philrad71's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For me it is the park and the attacker that should be blamed. The user that that mentioned the trimming of the cars is totally correct. It sort of makes the coaster unenjoyable and in some cases painful. If the park uses this policy, how would they even complete test runs on windy days? Speaking of this, for their new ride, are they not allowing single riders or something? I keep hearing that they won't run that without 4 people. -
Yeah they just want people to look at their stories. Not as many people will read an article if it says "32 arrested on sexual assault charges". But if it says "sexual assault at Disney World", people will read it. Then they'll believe that it's unsafe and it unfairly hurts the park. This is why I loathe news stations. They only want to talk about the bad things. Disney works hard to ensure that families are happy at the parks. They don't deserve a bad rap because of some sick freaks who find pleasure in assaulting kids.

The NHL Discussion Thread

Rumors keep swirling about next year when Mike Babcock's contract goes up. As a huge Wings fan, I don't see him going anywhere. He loves the city and the organization too much to leave. Even though some other teams are better off, Babs loves challenges, and he'll have to face that in keeping the playoff streak alive. I don't think that he would leave, and I don't know where these reporters get all this info from that he even wants to. Toronto is not very good at this point, and Pittsburgh is already set with their coaching staff. -

Nothing screams BIG, GIANT STEEL COASTER like "Passenger Pigeon: The Ride". I'm not saying that that has to be the name of the coaster, but it could be like a theme. A member brought up the theme of birds and passenger pigeons were very common back in time. Maybe it is a ridiculous idea, but it is an idea. -

I have to agree that this ride may be based or themed around a bird. Besides turkeys, a bird that was around back then was the passenger pigeon. They are extinct now, but they used to fly around in giant flocks especially near the coast. One flock was reported to be about a mile long in the Toronto area while they were still alive. May sound crazy, but I don't see why not. It's unexpected yet is historically accurate to the time. -
Martin's Fantasy Island sexual assault
coasterkid124 replied to Philrad71's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm starting to get worried about this park actually. If people aren't happy, they'll just go to Darien Lake even if it is more expensive. I've ridden RoS with glasses no problem every time. They even allow hats on the water slides and Shipwreck Falls. I love what Fantasy Island has been doing, but the park isn't as fun with these policies. This most recent incident could have been avoided but the management wanted to be hard headed. Sort of reminds me of the Flume Dog guy. If they would just allow single riders on some things, especially water rides, this stuff wouldn't happen as often. -

Martin's Fantasy Island sexual assault

I understand that after the death at Darien Lake everyone started to get worried, but the employees at MFI have turned into safety nazis. I too haven't visited the park due to the rules. I even heard that they don't let single riders on the new over the falls ride. I'd rather drive the extra ten minutes and go to Darien Lake. -
Martin's Fantasy Island sexual assault
coasterkid124 replied to Philrad71's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Fantasy Island doesn't have the best policies for riding. I think that they enforce at least three people to ride the Crazy Mouse or they won't dispatch. This is sort of off topic, but do they still have their dumb policy for the Silver Comet? Last year, they did not allow anyone to pull down their own lap bars. The ops did it for you and they didn't even make sure it was down all the way. The worst part was that they started over if a single person pulled theirs down. -
Well I'll try not to write a book, but I'll explain. Last season, the park was run horribly (one train ops, filthy restrooms, poor weather, closed rides are to name a few), and it made people angry and not want to visit again. This is why we had nothing big put in this year, seeing that the owners do not want to fish out money for something that may not profit. The Happiness Guarantee was put in place by Herschend to give the park a better rap. Here are the three promises. Sunny Day: If it rains for over 45 minutes, you get a return ticket. (They don't do refunds so you are forced to come back). Ride Service: If any major (Coaster, Thrill, or Family) ride is closed for over 4 hours during your visit, you get a return ticket. Short Line: If you wait over 45 minutes for a ride, you get a front of the line pass. Of course there is fine print to all of these. For instance, for the short line guarantee, you cannot say that you waited for the front seat of a coaster because that doesn't count. The main reason why this policy was put into place was because the park promised to run two trains on their coasters, and they failed to do so. Overall, I don't see much more improvement in attendance or anything. But, overall cleanliness has improved tremendously, and maintenance is a lot quicker with fixing rides. They hired a new GM, Director of Operations and Safety, and the manager of maintenance played a bigger role in hiring qualified technicians. Despite one train ops, there seem to be a lot of quicker operators who actually like their jobs too. So the policies have helped so far.

I think he's gone real soon as well. He even messed up his little umm, "relationship" with Frankie. As much as I think people want Devin gone, he is really good at challenges, and it seems like him and the rest of the Bomb Squad are on the same page for right now.
