I always loved how most members here forget about this park when speculating, then are excited by the addition the park receives. Supernova and the water slides were both great additions, and fit really well into the lineup. The park even did a good job with Blizzard, as it usually has a full line from what I have heard. Great Escape is a bit of a far ride for me from what they offer. I have been waiting for another large addition to visit again.

I have been to both parks, and they are two of the better parks of the chain. Great scenery, unique rides, and large enough for a whole day of fun. Go to Great Adventure if you want the better overall park. There are more coasters, the safari, and more flats. If it were me, it would be worth the extra three hours. SFOG isn't far off. It has a larger water park, a couple of unique coasters, and a great hyper. It depends on your family. If an extra three hours is a huge hassle, SFOG isn't a bad choice. Both parks have similar coasters, but Great Adventure is a lot fuller of a park. You cannot go wrong with either choice.

This park is not like most Six Flags parks, because they want to gear it towards families. The park's official name is "The Great Escape- A Six Flags Park". There is advertising within, for example the Sasquatch ride was presented by Jack Links, and I believe that Starburst advertised on either Steamin Demon or the Boomerang. Maybe it was Stride, I' not completely sure.

The only turn off with a Splash Battle is the amount of space it takes up. To put that in Darien's perspective, it would take up about half of Beaver Bros. Bay. I don't think that the park would build another tracked ride anyways, after the addition of Moose on the Loose. If the park ever removes Thunder Rapids, I think that that would be a great spot for a Splash Battle. I wouldn't call the park land-locked yet, but there are a few places that they could start to expand on. Off topic but if there was another water park expansion, could the park ever drain the lake by Big Kahuna? That is a lot of land to pass up on.

The coasters will come when they are needed, not demanded. Plus the park is far from overdue. They have a lineup that most people would wish for at their home parks. This year I don't expect much besides maybe an expansion or flat upgrade. I think that next year or the year after a big coaster will come. Six Flags usually does backwards campaigns the year before or after big investments.

Carowinds Discussion Thread

It might be my eyes playing on me, but are there three transfer sections? If this thing can run 4 trains it will be a capacity monster. This would be great, as they have the option of adding or subtracting trains as needed. EDIT: I see that there will be three trains from the website. Still will be great for capacity. -

I wasn't expecting this to be so long and large. I think that there could be more camelbacks, but this ride looks to be built around speed. I love how Cedar Fair is also incorporating their new coasters into park entrances. Overall, this design looks really good. -
Most Overrated coaster?
coasterkid124 replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would have to add Millennium Force to my list as well. From how everyone was talking, I thought that it was an airtime filled ride. I was wrong. It was more focused on speed, straightaways, and overbanks. The ride was quick, but didn't impress me at all. I would still prefer any of the three Superman hypers to this. -
I would have to agree that September is a good time to start with construction. With the weather around here so unpredictable, it's never a bad thing to start early. I don't think that the park is doing anything too big for Fright Fest this year, as the park mentioned that they are only doing stuff the first two weeks of October. This is a sign that construction will begin, because in September maintenance is usually setting up Halloween props. The park will probably run the haunted house, Road Rage, and Twister Possessed. Twister was no big deal as they just added some music and red dye to the fountain. The bumper cars had to be enclosed for the offseason so weather wouldn't harm the cars. As for new rides, I'm seeing a package from Zamperla coming to the park. If Ranger is replaced, it will likely be a Hawk. The park could market it as a similar experience as Ranger, but with suspended cars and a more open experience. Next, would be a Discovery to go in UFO's pad. I've been pushing for this idea for awhile now. The pad right now is an eyesore just being boarded up. The park is better off reusing it, and moving UFO elsewhere if it ever returns. The park should also order whatever parts they need to fix Motocoaster's train while they're at it. The third attraction is trickier. I'm sure that the park would also like to add a family ride to balance things. I always thought that an Aqua Twist would be a good addition for the park. Zamperla does offer a similar model called Watermania. There is a model at Coney Island. I would think that this ride would go in Ranger's spot, and the replacement would go elsewhere in the park where it would fit the theme better.

As long as CNL is in power, this is my reaction too. If CNL ever builds a new coaster I would have a stroke. I feel that Herschend will build a new coaster, if they decide to buy the park at the end of this year or next year. It could very well be a Gerstlauer model similar to Mystery Mine that will be thrilling, and suitable for families.

^I am assuming that you work at the park seeing that you know all this inside info, and can get those pics. As for the three new rides, I think that each one will suit a different age group. One obvious one is the Sidewinder Frisbee for thrill riders. Then I would guess that a family ride, and a borderline ride would also be added. Borderline as in a Star Flyer or something, as it is great for families but not overly boring.

Thanks for the info, and welcome to the forum! I am pretty sad to see Ranger go, much like UFO, but it is what's best for the future. Think of all the times during the last four seasons that it's been down for an extended period of time. This may be another possible spot for a Frisbee ride. Hopefully Herschend decides to buy the park. CNL has m=no business still belonging in the amusement industry. Darien fits into the chain like a glove. It has that wilderness/backwoods theme, and it has great potential to suit their family aspect. I don't think that Herschend will let this fall through, because even the accommodations alone can make a lot of money.

I think that the ride may see a higher height, overbanks to replace the turnarounds, and maybe a return of the double dips. This project is truly the turning point for RMC. They've done well with the crappy rides, now they have their hugest challenge yet. If people aren't satisfied with the new ride, they will let the park know. I think that this ride will be their best work yet.

Weird Chinese Coasters
coasterkid124 replied to GigaG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It looks like that one may actually be a bit better. The cobra roll isn't so scrunched up and may be a bit smoother. -
I think that this may be a good thing for the future of the chain. China has a huge population to pull from, and Asian theme parks seem to do really well. This may also help SF get out of debt and have a higher satisfaction rating. Plus for once, Six Flags will have a higher quality park than the ones around it. No spinning, rusty wild mice of death.

I think that it would be a tough move, because the building couldn't be moved and a new one would have to be built using the same specs. Besides, what park would want that nasty gum wall? I wouldn't even want to touch it. Hopefully what's left of the park finds a good home. I would hate to see those older rides just scrapped. However, Blue Streak may be too hard to move in the end. Edit: I am not a tax expert, and anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but is the park actually done now? Even though there are many people protesting, how many of those people actually visit the park on a normal basis? Attendance and upkeep really show how bad things are.
