  1. ^ True. In almost every sense of the word...
  2. Let's not forget S:TE overshooting too...That was always fun. Oh yeah... ^ It does hydroplane, sort of...Because the wheels are wet, it doesn't provide enough traction between the track and the car to cause enough friction. On top of that, the brake fin also gets wet, and the water acts as a lube (so to speak) preventing the station brake to not latch on to the car properly. All of this leads to a very nice overshoot into the uncovered area behind the station. Good times. I always loved safety rides on S:TE in the rain. But, then again, I also loved Flashback. Maybe I'm a masochist?
  3. Congrats y'all! Glad I popped over here today!
  4. They also seem to think that the B:TR queue is another venue for competition. Man, that summer sucked...
  5. I can't believe that I never saw this thread... September 9, 2001-March 3, 2004: SFMM Rides I was based at in order: Buccaneer/Swashbuckler/Granny Gran Prix/Sierra Twist Batman: The Ride Goliath Buccaneer/Swashbuckler/Granny Gran Prix/Sierra Twist (as a lead) Tidal Wave (as a lead) Freefall (as a lead) Jet Stream (as a lead) Superman: The Escape (as a lead) Flashback (as a lead) Log Jammer (as a lead) During that time, I was also a certified ride op at Revolution, Ninja, All of BBW (north and south), Orient Express, and Riddler's Revenge (in addition to all the rides I was based at) and I was a ride attendant at every other ride in the park. They were going to make me an area trainer the day that I turned in my 2 week notice to leave to go work for Apple, Inc. but, obviously, that didn't happen.
  6. There really is supposed to be a grouper there on really busy days. Man, that position sucked. Especially on your first day working at the park...
  7. VA practically stole JetBlue's business plan...Hence, you'll probably get the same service on both airlines. I'll take anything from the Virgin Group over JetBlue any time.
  8. ...and still not a single one in Las Vegas... It's not like we're the fastest growing city in the country or anything...
  9. ^ No pictures because ride operators really aren't supposed to go under the station track, and you can't really see the understide of the cars from the midway. And yes. S:TE's guide rail is down the center of the track. However, the road wheels and the upstop wheels are in standard configuration.
  10. The guide wheels are designed to work like that when they react with the guide rail. I also remember someone telling me that the sound also comes from the main wheels on the car too...
  11. LV Gladiators-LA Avengers (Arena Football) Next event: LV Wrangers-Stockton Thunder on April 7 (Last game of the season)
  12. It snowed out here in Vegas last week (and last month too). Joey and I were on the roof of Caesar's parking structure and it started coming down...Nothing was sticking, but it was still snow. My girlfriend was out on the west end of the city and said that it was really coming down...It was pretty cool. Also, Mt. Charleston had a good cover...Almost made me want to go snowboarding. Alas, I will wait...
  13. The brake fin is there to react with the brake in the station that holds the car in the station after the stators stop firing. This way the car doesn't roll out of the station...
  14. The underside of the cars is nothing special...There are two rails that are the magnetic reactors for the stators, the guide wheels, a brake fin, and the mechanism that controls the seats. Other than that, it's just metal and stuff...
  15. Do you actually know this for fact? That seems liek an awfully random thing to do... Considering NLF actually owns that land and allows SFMM to use it for storage, I don't think it's too random...It would explain the fence too...
  16. Great TR Soren! I'm heading out there this weekend for New Years, and I'm planning on doing the same stuff you did. I've been there and done everything 100 times, but I'm taking my girlfriend this year, and it's her first time (2nd time on the east coast ever). I showed her your pics, and she's even more excited than before. Thanks dude, and glad you had a great time!
  17. I do believe you can pick them up at the Planet Hollywood store in the Forum Shops at Caesars... You might want to call them and confirm... 702-791-7827 Hope that helps!
  18. ^^ You're correct about the remake. It's shot by shot, line for line an exact copy of the original...Gus Van Sant (the director) just updated the effects (ie. no chocolate syrup for blood, and the opening sequence was CG instead of a matte shot). I know I am in the extreme minority, but I actually liked the remake. I think it was absolutely amazing how exact it was. I just wish it didn't have Ann Heche playing Marion Crane. Oh yeah, and the house "makeover" in the remake sucked worse than a $0.05 hooker. Same with the motel.
  19. Tom Wilson's a comedian? Where the hell have I been?
  20. ^ Word. BTW, I seriously doubt they are going to completely remove the Psycho House. They've moved it once, and I'm sure they will move it again.
  21. ^ Yes. Considering there is really only one, and it's indoors. All of the other rides and attractions are open year around (Speed, ME, Stratosphere, etc.) The only ride that has any real issues is Desperado. When there is even a slight breeze, the ride goes down. I guess that's what you get for a 12-year old Arrow Hyper...
  22. Not just at SFMM, but at every SF park. Now, if they have someone with them, they can help them into the shade and you can get some water for them, but that's about it.
  23. I think this is one of the best shows on TV (It's a tie for me between Studio 60 and House). I've got a buddy that's on SNL, and minus all the drama, he said this is pretty similar to how the show operates. Well, they take some (re: a lot) liberties, but in general it's pretty close, ya know?
  24. LOL! No, no...This was back in 2002. I haven't worked at the park since March 2004.
