Cheers for Outlaw Run and cheers for Hades360!! This year's poll can kind of give a direction for those parks who are deciding which manufacturer should they buy woodies at And it's kind of Interesting that both NTaG and Outlaw Run are on No.3 and topped by two Intamins. Can't wait to vote on this year's steel coaster poll!

I don't think SoB's Failure has too much to do with Stengel god though. RCCA has a tradition of building rough rides( *cough* Bandit, Rattler, Coaster Express, White Canyon, etc *cough*) I think it's mainly due to construction flaw. -

I would go for Midwest. Cinnamon bread and Outlaw Run. Plus St. Louis being a good place for baseball lover. -

B&M vs Intamin

Let's see, Mitch Hawker 2012 steel coaster poll Top 11: Intamin made GeForce, Bizarro, i305, Kawasemi, SkyRush, iSpeed, Maverick and Mega-Lite. B&M made Shambhala and Katun. (I think Shambhala will drop out this year. By the way, good job, Mirabilandia! -

B&M vs Intamin
gerstlaueringvar replied to alpengeistdude321's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Let's see: the B&M's I like only including B:TR clone, S:KC, Wildfire and CP Raptor, all for the forcefulness. I hardly find any of them having airtime. But for Intamin, coasters come with large variability. Maverick, Mega-Lite, TTD, MF, SkyCar, California Sleepin' (I prefer it over any B&M's I've been on even though I nearly fell asleep), Wicked Twister, American Eagle, Happy Valley Shanghai's mine train and even 10 Inversion Coaster! I know that maybe I haven't been on a truly crazy intense B&M like Nemisis, Montu, Pyrenees, Katun, etc but I really think B&M coasters lack some creativity. Element placement are always similar so when B&M decided to eliminate their force, of course people would start complaining. I assume that Cheetah Hunt is not a forceful coaster but I have never seen anyone complain about it. Intamin makes out standing rides and they are always looking for new things but B&M is just...capacity monster. -
American Thunder is the only exceptional ride you listed. (The Boss could be exceptional for reasons already discussed). The others are clones and/or park Staples which really don't set our park apart from the others. The bottom complaint is we need new Steel, something custom, something signature. I believe the last custom coaster except for Boss is Ninja, which was moved from another park. I mean, American Thunder is also a clone, just mirrored.

Consider Lightning Racer at Hersheypark. It was designed in a way that, with fully-loaded trains, you couldn't predict which train was going to win until right before the finish line. Yet, for some strange reason, everyone thinks that the Lightning side will always win and there will usually be more people riding the Lightning side for that reason. Deliberately making one side of Colossus more "extreme" or "intense" or making it have a drastically different ride experience will mean that the "better" side will always get more ridership. That will pretty much eliminate what (apparently) makes Colossus fun, and that's the racing element. My idea is that the train will use polyurethane wheels, the right side will be topper tracked with the original layout, and after the brake run, modify the cross, connect the right side to the left side so the train enters the station of the left side. The station area and pre-lift area of the left side can be turned into some sort of dark ride. After the lift hill, the track switch from Topper Track to I-Beam Track and finish the Iron Colossus section. The train enters the modified cross after the brake run, enter the station of the right side and the journey ends there. If the despatch can be right at the time when the train at the left side gets out of the dark ride section, it can turn into an unique dueling coaster. Outlaw Run's track switch twice between Topper Track and I-Beam track so it shouldn't be a problem. And consider that Colossus has a pretty long brake section connected to the station, Maybe an unloading platform can fit in there if storage track can get a better solution.

Knoebels Discussion Thread
gerstlaueringvar replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
By GCI, I mean those GCI woodies. They are everywhere nowadays just like B&M's. Knoebels has Phoenix which is from Playland Park, Twister whose layout is based on Twister II, Flying Turns which brought back the wooden bobsled category. Even if they build something impressive like Knight Valley's Wooden Coaster or those new concept coasters from GCI, it couldn't be that special. But I wouldn't mind if they build a completely normal Intamin woodie By the way, just heard from someone back from Knight Valley, Wooden Coaster became very rough already. -

RMC trains use springs to push the side wheels and up stop wheels towards the track and everyone knows that more compression force cause more friction force that slow down the train. The thing is not about traditional steel wheels or polyurethane wheels but I can tell that NTaG added 10ft of height and removed a giant helix, iRat removed the giant helix at the upper cliff and the helix near the station. Polymath and wheels definitely give much more friction than steel wheels but RMC's new technology on trains with steel wheels gives more friction than traditional wooden coaster trains.
