  1. Most in one day: 24 each on Kraken in 2006 and Goliath SFOG in 2009. Most overall is probably Ghostrider, but I have no idea how many.
  2. I think it's the same qualities that make almost any coaster better than another. Combination of positive and negative g's, and layout/pacing being the most important. Coasters like Silver Bullet have the layout/pacing part down, but lack so severely in the forces department that many of us just can't get excited about it when there are other inverts out there that do both.
  3. I love how someone bothered to make this plane some sort of F-14 / F/A-18 bastard child. They put F-14 intakes on an F/A-18 fuselage. What's even worse is that the big mural on Flight Deck's station has Air Force F-15s (which the Navy has not nor could ever operate) flying over a carrier. Not that I expect parks to get these things right or anything. The aviation nut in me just finds it hilarious.
  4. You don't think that B&M trains, some of the highest quality, best engineered coaster trains in existence, can handle Magnum's airtime but the clunky old Arrows can? What, like B&M designs them to deliberately not sustain forces greater than what they are likely to encounter on a typical ride? And in what way does something like pacing have anything to do with how much stress a train can handle? Come on.
  5. Not sure about GIB's, but the Intamin Impulse coasters are not identical. Wicked Twister has two spirals, V2 has the weird angled hill and the rest are AFAIK different heights. I actually disagree with groupings, as one Boomerang can be smooth and the other rattly and awful. You're not wrong but....
  6. As one of the most legendary and significant wooden coasters of all time (regardless of how it rides now), I don't feel like The Beast should get an Iron Horse makeover. I think a RMC topper track re-tracking with Gerstlauer trains would be much more suitable.. Back to steel coasters. I'm curious, why are coasters like boomerangs and shuttle loops all grouped into single categories while the GIB's and standard model impulses have separate listings for each installation?
  7. I wouldn't be surprised if you turn out to be right about Bizarro. I never rode it prior to 2012, but it did not feel like the ride I had heard so much about for a decade on the six rides I got last year. The biggest difference between TTD and KIngda Ka for me is the roughness. Ka wants to rattle your brains out behind the first few rows while Dragster is still comparatively smooth. Combine that with Dragster's more scenic setting/visuals and that might explain it. I agree on SooperDooperLooper. Maybe it will climb next season after more riders give it a chance with the new trains? I actually preferred it to Fahrenheit. I also much prefer the Vekoma flyers to S:UF. I think this one might simply be a case of manufacturer bias to the detriment of Vekoma.
  8. Just a side-note on this. But Walygator is too cheap to use a midcourse or three trains. Where Raptor's midcourse is, Monster just has straight track with no brakes. It's possible that the Walygator version ranks higher because it potentially runs faster in the second half. I have not been on Monster, so that is just me speculating/guessing. Those who did the 2012 Europe trip mostly said that the 2nd half was really good due to the lack of the MCBR. Does Raptor's MCBR come on that hard now? I rode it many times from 2000-2004 but not since. I remember back then the train breezed right through and the MCBR shaved off only a couple mph at most. Finally returning to CP this year, so I hope it's not the case.
  9. Now if we could only get someone to recreate this.... http://www.thegreatoceanliners.com/index2.html The true greatest liner of them all.
  10. Riding Magnum XL-200 in the row behind pro wrestler Al Snow and his disproportionately hot gf... Back when he was a regular on TV and I actually watched wrestling. Nothing really happened, I just found the sheer idea of it to be completely hilarious.
  11. ^I always like to think of Pony Express as a joke that someone in management took literally, like, "Oh... you guys actually built that ride in the e-mail I CC'd everyone!? I was totally bullsh*tting you!"
  12. I think a central park view, balcony cabin on a Royal Caribbean Oasis class ship is just what you need.
  13. You're entitled to your opinion and all, but what exactly do you mean by "intense" in this case?
  14. Add me to the Matterhorn list. I believe my second was Viper at SFMM.
  15. Batman: The Ride at SFMM in either 97 or 98. I didn't really get hooked on coasters until I rode Riddler's Revenge a year or two later. It's funny when I think back on those years, when I truly felt Viper was better than both of them....
  16. Creativity left Vegas in the 1990s. Once MGM bought up the Mandalay properties and Harrahs expanded to compete, every hotel, restaurant, club, and attraction has been a derivative of the same idea.
  17. ^Hardly. You just need to build up those quads a bit. Get yourself some airtime-proof Intamin thighs! I think I'm done talking about weight lifting in this thread.
  18. You guys who think Skyrush was too painful on your thighs need to hit the gym and do some squats or something.
  19. The feeling that it's trying to throw me out of the train was my favorite part of Skyrush. As enthusiasts, I think we often feel so in control over our ride experience on most coasters, that when Skyrush comes along and says, "Um, no... I'm in control, not you!" it feels like an entirely new level of roller coaster. For me, if a ride can make people like us feel like the GP, even for a few seconds, then it's doing its job.
  20. If this thread is a good indicator, Skyrush is perched for a top five finish in its debut season. Looks like everyone who has ridden it so far have it top five or at least top ten. I also noticed Bizarro isn't ranking as highly on many of our ballots (mine included). It will be interesting if this is the first year in a while it doesn't finish 1 or 2.

  22. Man, some of you guys are hard to please. There are certainly far worse Downfall videos out there. I laughed a few times.
