^Wow - $6.75 for a movie! I don't think they've cost that down here for at least 20 years. Well enjoy, The Hobbit finally opens here today so I'm off to check that out.

Dreamworld getting a Kung Fu Panda land
azza29 replied to cymonster-rex's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Parkz have added a fairly extensive photo update on the new area: www.parkz.com.au/update/2012/12/21/#308 They've added a sort of playground themed to a kung fu academy, so I give that about a week before it's closed by their insurance company. But overall the area seems great - the park have even gone to the effort of properly theming the bumper cars rather than just adding a new sign (which is what they would've done 5 years ago). Can't wait to get a ride on that Air Race! However other parts of the park are getting a little worn - broken TVs in the Buzzsaw queue aren't a good look, and the Rivers of Australia is now themed to an algal bloom. Not sure if I'd go out of my way to tour the Big Brother house either, unless they turn it into a haunt. -

^^^Do they publish the full list passholder discounts anywhere, or is that something that is just listed at each store? -
We are halfway through 21/12/2012 in Australia and I am pleased to report it is a sunny and pleasantly warm day, with no signs of any impending apocalypse.

The plural of bus is 'buses', not 'busses'. *cough* SFMM thread *cough*

A LEGO Back To The Future set was officially announced this morning. Two of my favourite things, together at last! It doesn't get more awesome than this.

The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread
azza29 replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Pleasant surprise was Tower of Terror II - I thought that turning the car around would just be a gimmick, but it made the ride ten times better, especially from the front seat. Unpleasant surprise was Lethal Weapon. Rode this before I knew much about coasters so I wasn't aware of Vekoma SLCs' reputatiton for being rough. Don't remember much about the ride apart from my head constantly banging between the OTSRs. -
^I would be interested in this information also. Movies of musicals can be a bit hit and miss - Chicago was great but Rock of Ages managed to ruin a very fun stage show.

Maybe there are plans which will involve moving part of the carpark (public or staff) so shuttles have to drive across a public road, in which case the trams might need seatbelts (but enclosed buses would not). I know on the Warner Bros studio tour they have seatbelts on their carts specifically for the 10-second drive from the tour meeting area to the studio gate.

Missed Credits: Coasters you COULD have...
azza29 replied to RIP Psyclone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Eureka Mountain Mine Ride - too short at the time, next time I went it was closed for maintenance, and now it just sits there taunting me, SBNO. It's funny how these things go in cycles - back in the 80s when that part of Dreamworld was built everything was very heavily themed. Then for 10-20 years most new attractions had minimal (or crap) theming, and now they've just started to go big on the theming again with "Dreamworks land". -

Thanks for the update! Great to see they're planning to have it all done for the start of the season. This counts as a credit, right? -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

Crap. I was looking forward to riding that one next year, chiefly because it's fairly unique. But perhaps it's a ride better suited to a smaller park (or just a waterpark), where capacity would be less of an issue. -

^I'm very much looking forward to visiting this park next year - if it's OK then I'll be happy, if it's as terrible as it's reputation suggests I'll be ecstatic. -
But the UK is small so it's not like you guys have to drive very far right? Comparison for Melbourne - unleaded is AUD1.35/litre = AUD5.13/gallon = USD5.40 = GBP3.34 Diesel is about 10% more than that. Still well cheaper than the $4.80 they charge for a 600ml bottle of water at the cricket (=$8/litre or $30.40/gallon)!

One of my friends has been raving about Pitch Perfect so I watched it last night, pleasantly surprised. Kind of Mean Girls meets Bring It On meets Glee, except without Glee's relentless emotional angst and 'learning moments'. Very, very funny in sports and most of the musical numbers were solid. The trailer for this has seemingly been in front of every film I've seen for the last three months, and based on that I got the impression it might be overly mawkish/sentimental - is that the case?

As great as HK DL's Thunder Mountain ride is, I like that the different Disney parks have their own versions of this ride. Nothing wrong with DL just doing a refurb if that is what it needs. LOL at those who are going to count it as a new credit. I mean, each to their own with this but still... I felt dirty when I decided to count both sides of the Matterhorn as separate credits!

Thanks very much, Secret Santa! A parcel has arrived! From the land of Dragon Challenge and New Test Track! A lovely card! Park maps! Epcot magnet! A chocolate treat! And not just LEGO, but BATMAN LEGO! Huzzah! -
Lost my wallet on the weekend, not much in there apart from a few bank cards and my drivers license so no big deal except I have limited access to my money. Called the bank on Saturday to cancel the cards and get replacements, was told they would be out to me in 3 business days. Still hadn't received them today so I called the bank, turns out the genius I spoke to last week forgot to order replacements so I'm going to have to wait a few more days (and over the weekend). Grrr. They were very apologetic but still really inconvenient. The worst part? This is the same bank THAT I WORK FOR!!!

^^Nice. I find it incredible that this place can be open 3 months a year, plus 2 months of weekends only and still make money. And yet it does. -

I did the same - I figured my name was already on the customs slip so at that point it wasn't really 'secret' anymore. Australia and the US need some sort of barter system whereby we exchange Tim Tams for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
