  1. At two hours its just a little too far away to bother with a season pass. The sh*tty fast track doesn't help. All I ever hear is how busy the place is all summer. When I win the lottery I'll retire to Hershey, PA. I'll work part time at Troegs and spend my evenings at the park lol. For now I'm content to make a trip up once a year in the fall, just have to remind myself to avoid Saturdays next year. I'd heard that even during HPITD the crowds were out in force on Saturdays, but now I've seen for myself. Its too great of a park to experience it when busy when I can simply go on a Friday/Sunday in October and have the run of the place. Already looking forward to next fall! Yeah, well, considering we have SDC passes every year considering the, er, okay, fastpass system, and the proximity, yeah, we really would. What is Troeg's? Did I miss something really cool in PA?
  2. Great report of course! Glad you got to ride Fahrenheit. It's really great, though I am surprised I rode it more times in one day than you have ever. Skyrush is absolutely incredible, one of the best coasters anywhere at any time. These days I rarely have that petrified feeling right before getting on a coaster, but Top Thrill Dragster, Kingda Ka, and Skyrush all do it. Pure adrenaline rush the whole way. Once is absolutely worth the trip, and I say that living 1,000 miles from it. Several rides on Skyrush makes it the trip of a lifetime. Love all the Halloween stuff. Very cute and kid-friendly. Seems like the sort of thing Silver Dollar City would do if they ever actually did Halloween (unlikely). Hersheypark is so great, and I already miss it. If I lived as close to it as you do, I'd absolutely have season passes every year.
  3. This sounds like it could be an utterly epic trip. Assuming you're taking two weeks off work to do it, I'd go ahead and stretch this out to 16 days for a more relaxed vacation and a better experience. I'd also skip Kings Dominion amd Carowinds on this trip, because they're both so close to you that each can be done on a weekend trip. Definitely do those, just separately. Get a Six Flags America Gold season pass if you don't have one already, as it'll be cheapest there. Day 1 (Sat): Drive to SF America, have fun, drive to NJ or as far as you can get depending on traffic and how long you stay at SF America. Day 2 (Sun): Finish driving to NJ if needed, SF Great Adventure. Get a Gold Flash Pass. Do the Safari. Day 3 (Mon): Go back to Great Adventure, go straight to El Toro, ride it non-stop until the other park guests figure out it exists.Leave and go to Dorney, plan about 3 hours there, then continue on to Knoebels. You can camp there if you like camping; otherwise, there are hotels about a half hour away. Day 4 (Tues): Knoebels! This is the best park on your itinerary. Get a handstamp, spend all day there, ride everything. Get some pierogies, they're the best I've ever had outside Poland. Day 5 (Wed): Go back to Knoebels, but get tickets this time. See the free museums, ride whatever appealed to you most the previous day, leave mid-afternoon for Hershey. Get to Hershey about an hour before the preview plan begins and go through the Chocolate Factory Tour. Once the preview plan begins, go into the park proper and ride Skyrush and all the low capacity coasters. Day 6 (Thurs): Hershey all day. Be happy. Day 7 (Fri): Drive to Kennywood, stay all day. Be happy. Day 8 (Sat): Drive to Erie, go to Waldameer for a couple of hours, drive on to Cedar Point, and make your own "preview day." Ride the coasters at the front of the park because the lines will be short when you get there in the late afternoon/early evening. Day 9 (Sun): Early entry to Cedar Point, stay all day. Probably gonna want Fast Lane +. Day 10 (Mon): Early entry to Cedar Point, stay until about noon, then head out to Kings Island. Get to Kings Island around 5 (yeah, it's a long way between the two, took me about 4 1/2 hours), then ride a couple of things and wait for nightfall. Ride the Beast at night, it'll blow your mind. Day 11 (Tues): Early entry to Kings Island, stay all day. May need Fast Lane +. Day 12 (Wed): Early entry to Kings Island, then Kentucky Kingdom. Drive to Jasper, Indiana, and have dinner at Schnitzelbank. Day 13 (Thurs): Holiday World. Probably not an all day park if you're not into waterparks. Four great coasters, and the second best service of any park on your trip, behind Knoebels. Drive part of the way to Pigeon Forge that night. Day 14 (Fri): Finish driving to Pigeon Forge, ride the mountain coasters, do tourist trap stuff, get to Dollywood for the preview. Day 15 (Sat): Dollywood all day. Probably gonna need Time Saver Pass. Don't miss the shows or the museum. Eat cinnamon bread. Be happy. Day 16 (Sun): Drive back home exhausted and depressed that you have to go back to work after all this fun.
  4. I've heard great things about Breakers. I'm staying in the Hojo across from Thirsty Pony again. It's a super cheap hotel in a great location, and with a Platinum Pass, it's not really necessary to stay on site.
  5. That sounds about right. I work in the hotel industry, and seasonal properties almost always begin loading next year's inventory once the current season ends.
  6. City Museum is absolutely great, and anyone who hasn't been should do so as soon as possible. It isn't a replicable sort of place. If you've been to a place you think is similar, you haven't been here. There's nothing else like it, and there never will be again (the creator died a few years ago). Glad everybody had fun, because of course you did.
  7. This is great news. In this case, every one of Kings Island's coasters is smooth. Bat is fantastic. Make sure you're prepared for the walk. Bring water, food, bug repellent, a machete, and a pop-up tent. As long as you're a relatively good hiker, you should make it to Bat's station in just under 2 days. Is it worse than Zumanjaro? It's probably about as long, but Bat's queue is better because the walk to Vietnam counts as theming.
  8. ^ Yes, bring a friend deals are valid at all CF parks. I used it last year with my Platinum Pass from Worlds of Fun to get my family into Valleyfair at a discount. There are certain days they're valid, and these vary by park. Check the individual park's website under season pass discounts. Basically CF treats a Platinum Pass the same as having the highest tier season pass to every park. So for example, if you have a Platinum Pass from any CF park, Valleyfair will give you whatever a Valleyfair Gold Pass holder would get.
  9. Probably Six Flags St. Louis for Holiday in the Park Nov. 18 or 19, but we may make a trip to Silver Dollar City before then.
  10. I could not think of a place more worthy of giving all your money than Knoebels. Totally disagree about camping--I find it fun--but then, I don't work five days a week either (4x10 FTW!). What the hell is a Schmeck seat? Enthusiasts.... I can't believe Knoebels manaaged to make itself more awesome, but yeah, Jamison on tap will do that. Fandango is awesome! While that's a ride type that I usually ride after a couple of beers, I really enjoyed it. It didn't quite have the ridiculous air of "It", but it was pretty great. Oh, and as a longtime fan of Kids in the Hall, I totally approve of pinching loaves, people, and other faroff things.
  11. Not much has changed in the past year, But these two have! Intamin hypers are awesome! Specificially Skyrush--holy crap it's great. And I've now been on three full size whips, the best of which is at Knoebels.
  12. They should move it to the junkyard to make way for something. That ride is awful. Eh, it wasn't bad, not great either. I wouldn't mind if it were removed, but I didn't find it any more uncomfortavle than any other mouse. Then again, I'm 5' 11", and those couple inches you have on me may make all the difference.
  14. Oh god...the withdrawals... Hi, my name is Andrew, and it has been two months since I visited Knoebels. Seriously, this looks really great. The only downside to enthusiast events is the enthusiasts. I don't really care for Halloween events generally, so I really love the total dorkiness of the decorations. What can I say? I'm a sucker for puns. Oh, and totally jealous about the Impulse line, or lack thereof. That thing was 45 minutes every time I went. Great coaster; they don't have a single bad one, and that includes Kozmo's Kurves.
  15. This month, Outlaw Run. Best ever? Quite possibly the same.
  16. I have to agree. I rode Ghostrider for the first time last year, right after the renovatons, and it's a Top 10 woodie for me. I love it just as it is, and I hope the next time I get to L.A. (probably once Disney finishes Star Wars Land) it's still that good.
  17. Maybe it's just because I've been married for 10 years, but analyzing a photo for a nip slip just seems pretty desperate to me.
  18. Just catching up on this report. Alton Towers and Port Aventura both look amazing, and I hope to get to them both eventually. I had heard mixed reviews on Blackpool, but after the extensive review, it totally looks like a place I would love, a place that's equal parts horrible and awesome. I loved Moreys, and Blackpool seems to have that same sort of vibe.
  19. The parts are probably coming from Intamin. Saying "overseas" is fine because most people don't care where the parts come from, they just want to know why it's not running.
  20. That's cool. My hotel was near there, so i walked past that one and it seemed to be abandoned. Glad to see the town maybe doing something about it. Wildwood had a vibe about it of a place that works really hard to keep people coming back. I totally understand living in a place that depends on tourism for its survival. Good for them for doing what (hopefully) will get the next generation hooked and coming back for years to come.
