Hypercoasters don't exactly guarantee success. The same apply's for anything new introduced by a company. By amusement park standards, building a hypercoaster means your trying to appeal to more people and make your park shine. Parks usually build them to cater to their customers. When a park builds something the size/cost of a hypercoaster, I'm sure there going to really advertise it. People pay the most attention to anything when it's "new". If a park is smart, they will capitalize on it and try and bring in as many people as possible via-advertisements. Hypercoasters don't guarantee success, however if you play your cards right, it will.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Well, it's nice to hear some numbers. If CP were to do the Iron horse, how would they make it significantly different from TNTAG? They'd probably throw some inversions in there somewhere, hopefully a heartline -

It just seems more feasible to re-track MS using topper. I heard somewhere (salt grains people) that CP said it was too expensive to use the Iron Horse. -

Unless they do something with MS, i doubt we'll see another woodie. What's the point of building a new woodie if you can't take care of the one you have now? Of course the wooden coasters of today are light years away from dinn coasters of the 90's. Seeing how MS Que was pretty much eliminated shows that they've practically given up on the ride (other than re-tracking it during the off-season). I honestly don't think CP would go with the Iron Horse treatment. They seem to really be pushing/preserving the fact that "its a wooden coaster". The ride itself, meh. Although Timberliners/MFlyers and some topper track would turn this sucker around. The coaster isn't anything spectacular from an enthusiast's POV (>5% of attendance I presume) , but this parks main crowd is the GP. Think about it, a wooden coaster the size MS running silky smooth.......I smell long lines there. This thing has the potential to eat up the GP. Everyone says that topper track won't save the ride, but I beg to differ. Smooth it out and you got a decent ride on your hand. Honestly topper track would help bring this ride back to its former glory, which has a high possibility to bring back the lines. And if that happens, its a success. Just because it doesn't have Ohh-my-jebus-banked curves---loads of airtime---and a insane drop, doesn't mean the coaster is terrible. It's a classic wooden(in this case a silky smooth one), and one the calibur of MS is something that's sure to sell. Look at it like this: -A horrible cracked/bumpy/beat up road that's sometimes used a short-cut of a major road (There was one in my hometown) -No one really used it because of the above reasons -They recently repaved it and got ride of all the weeds/over-grown greenery (nothing great or exciting there) -However, theirs at-least 2 or so cars are at the stop-sign following, so of-course more people are noticing and using the road. -Mean streak is in the back of the park, yet still very busy -No one rides mean streak because its rough/hard to find -Add some topper/new trains (nothing new or exciting there), and some more signage/promotion material around the entrance -If it rides good and is now promoted.....there should be an increase in ridership, right? This is just my way of looking at this. -

Even bigger/better innovating rides and attractions. The Wing coaster concept just recently appeared, so I'd say whats in store next for CP is something we've never even seen yet. Although it is a bit early for talk like that, construction has only just begun. -
After a bit of digging, I finally found my notes. Freeze was designed with a maximum bank angle of slightly more than 130° at the apex of that overbanked turn. Most of the turn is banked less severely, of course. As is the case with all of these maneuvers, it's only the maximum instantaneous bank angle that ever gets noted. This certainly wasn't the first time that a ride's advertised stats were a poor fit to its actual stats, but this case is a bit unusual because generally the numbers tend to get inflated rather than deflated... Interestingly - and I had completely forgotten about this - many people were calling that overbanked turn a "wingover" in the late 1990s. "Wingover" has a different generally accepted definition now. You there! Fetch me an onion for my belt! Well, this is what I found. www.ultimatecoaster.com/spring.asp?cid=746 www.guidetosfot.com/attractions/coasters/mrfreeze/ www.admiraldfw.com/specials/six-flags-package-2.php

But was Millennium Force the true holder of that record in the first place? Mr. Freeze is listed in RCDB as a one-inversion coaster. If that's true, then the ride's overbanked turn must be a non-inversion. I'd have to go to my notes, but I believe that turn is banked to more than 122 degrees off the vertical. If my recollection is correct, then MF never had the record in the first place. That could bring up the well-worn question of how overbanked you can get before you become an inversion, a la Drachen Fire's cutback element. But rather than wade through all that, I'll (try to) limit the question to just Mr. Freeze... Is it widely agreed that Freeze is a one-inversion machine? If this question is too OT for this conversation, then I'll happily accept redirection to a new or different thread without complaint. Mr Freeze is considered 1 inversion, well atleast by me. And Mr. Freeze is banked at 120°.

Behemoth opened in 2008, Diamondback opened in 2009. So if that "pattern" were to continue, KI should get another beemer next year. (not looking likely) -
Multiple things wrong here. -Not the first "upside down roll" Outlaw run already has two, so that claim is false. -It will only have the longest underground tunnel, and only barrel roll on a wooden coaster -This coaster is not "all-wood" -The coaster will steal the "steepest non-inverted turn" record from Millennium Force(which has three, 122* overbanked turns)

Agreed. A newer launch coaster would be an instant success. Just no gimmicks or prototypes, this park has paid the price enough -
Great America, Over Texas, Over Georgia. Those would be the closest things to "flagship" parks, MM doesn't even compare. MM is a "coaster park", and not much else. Three train operation could work on the Full Throttle though. One Train on course, Two Trains simultaneously loading/unloading (Maverick).

Coolest Ride Vehicles

I know this thread is about the coolest looking ride vehicles. But, Phantom's Revenge has the UGLIEST cars I've ever seen. Giovanola hypercoaster cars are a close second, hideous. The coolest looking ones....Fiorano GT Challenge, hands down. -

Those are Hyper and Wing Coasters, not Inverts. And out of all the reviews, it seems Wing Riders (so-far) aren't meant for the forces (many say they hardly have any). They are just fun "wing riding" coasters. Although I have yet to ride one so I shouldn't judge them to harsh. -

Have you been on a Batman Clone? I find B:TR at SFGAm to be very forceful, and one of my favorite B&M rides around. Name a recent B&M invert that isn't forceless (post 2004)
