Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thinkin about HoliWood Nights this year. Have never been to the park, excited to finally cross The Voyage off my hit list. What should I expect both from the event and park? I've hard usually great things about both. Ya know how much can usually be done on ERT, how crowded may the park be, how's all the extra perks and HW in general? I see the event doesn't start till 6 on Friday. Worth getting there earlier? (If we even can) I am thinking of driving from Louisville where a friend lives, wanna know how long I should hang there before heading to HW -

Yeah anyone concerned about ERT lines really shouldn't be. I was able to do all, multiple times. And I could've done more. I saw the line for TTD already piling up so I hopped on to get a ride before it was massive before park even opened, (it was like 40 minutes before 10 and already line was getting long). If I didnt would've had even more time for other rides in ERT. Seriously no one should be concerned. Least I think not. Congrats to those who nabbed tix already damn that went fast. Given other trips I got planned guess CP is out this year -
Precisely. We love parks, and its natural to wanna defend stuff/people/places we like but we gotta be honest here. I mean it's not businesses have never done questionable things, sad as it is why would an amusement/water park be exempt. This is a very sad case. And it does seem this was deff more than just an accident/error but definite negligence. Very sad, and perhaps we're lucky it took as long as it did for something so tragic to happen

Ah the infamous question, one that has lead to many fierce debates Personally: to each their own. I don't care about "creds" I do keep track but only because I'm a nerd. I like keeping track of things, I liked spreadsheets and numbers and stats...and it is a hobby, just like some people collect sneakers (and I find it silly a friend has like 500 sneakers) I like to know how many coasters I've been on, and he may find that weird But I never cared about cred whoring, like ya know I dont do kiddie coasters, I avoid boomerangs and SLCs, I wont go out of my way strictly for a cred, and I take kind of a conservative view, like I dont count each side of an identical racing coaster as their own, clones are all diff but not re locations, no water slides no fair ground loops But if someone wanted to, that's cool to each their own.

Seriously. I love rides, I have defended them to people (even after accidents and tragedies) I am not one to jump to conclusions or get swept up in frenzy. Even in this case I personally don't have an opinion yet, just wanna look at everything, and us park lovers have to be realistic and open minded otherwise we end up like the "masses" we often make fun of.... It does seem there is a legitimate case for negligence. I get accidents happen, often its human error and sometimes plain on accident, I get and accept that rides are still safer than most other things (My friend just got his neck pretty hurt on some go karts!) but if this is actual negligence, we need to accept that. As for your other question, my guess is a single park incident. I have never heard anything about Schlitterbahn as a whole before

God, to think such an utterly horrible coaster now looks so amazing. RMC <3 And I've always wanted to experience a roll into drop. VA isn't tooo bad a trip -
Like...what exactly happened? Was it someone with no experience or knowledge that just came up with it and then they tested and tweaked it? I know that's the point of testing and tweaking but isn't a tad unnerving? That's basically like us fooling around with a coaster simulator game lol Except ya know, if something goes wrong someone can die If this is not the case, then we need to be careful what we throw around.

Have to admit, I only heard this news story, I haven't followed it or know much of the details. I will look into it, though from a first read it sounds like the boy was allowed on though he prob shouldnt have been (the raft being under recommended weight) or should've been seated in the middle. That said, it seems like rafts going airborne has long been an issue? Hmmmmm sounds almost like luck is the only reason something like this didn't happen sooner. It's such a damn tragedy when things like this happen, not only is a child dead but its supposed to be a fun day... awful As for the all the rest, it does bug me whenever people who don't know much about rides/may not even ride em suddenly have an opinion (which they are entitled to but throw it around like fact) and have their opinions influenced. Just a few days ago a friend who is from Kansas was talking about nixing a trip to this park and in fact being turned off all water parks, and ya know people always get into the "this stuff is dangerous anyway, why do we allow it/people are taking their lives at risk when riding stuff" all that craziness. That said, it's seeming like there really were concerns and issues with this ride, and I'm reading all this about designers not being engineers? Look I don't care if it's happened other times, that is just flat out disturbing. Sure, historically etc etc etc but then when something like this happens...ya know we maybe have to think about it and look into that? I know often park accidents are human error, and sometimes legit accidents happen and we accept that, but if it turns out this was actual negligence, beyond error, that is horrifying.

It surely wont be, thus why the ERT is so essential Ya do that, then don't have to worry for the rest of the day. I don't think they were saying SV would be under and hour, thats silly. I think they were saying outside that and the other top coasters, lines were under an hour. Which I agree, that was absolutely my experience. Come 10 once the park was open to all plus all us coaster nerds, I didnt think it crowded. Relatively, it's CP always have to factor in the crowds. But yeah I really didn't think it was terribly crowded. Ya know once you have already done all the long waiters already and don't have to fret. Outside MF, Maverick, Valravn, TTD nothing I saw was even at an hour. Not that it matters, is a great event and I always love CP. Shame it sold out already. That was a huge bummer, going to the site to excitedly buy my tickets and see too late but ah well. -

Guess I lucked out last year...though it IS CP, I'd hope we'd kind of expect large crowds. Would be worth it for the ERT alone, would still allow you to get all you want done in a way not possible (w/o fast pass) on a normal day. Deff super bummed. Oh well, I've yet to go to Holiday World, since I already got that June 1 off I may look into that event. And I'm not crazy right, there deff was a WCB 2018 announcement? I'll look on the bright side, been 5 years since I went, may be a better use of money, make a longer CA trip -

Whoa...coastermania sold out already? Holy hell, my paycheck finally hit, first thing I was gunna do is buy tix and..... yeah. Wow I bought em much later last year, I guess the Steel Vengeance effect for ya Was there an official announcement or anything? If so super bummed I missed it, if not guess I should've checked the site every day. Did they really limit the number of attendees this year? I guess I cant vouch for other years but last year the event wasnt crowded at all. I mean if you expected the park basically to yourself no, but I was able to do lots in the morning ERT, enough to get a jump on the day and do everything I wanted, usually multiple times, in one day and that was even with a 3 hour break. I agree with the above comment, "super busy" is not accurate of my experience. Even during the normal hours, yeah aside from the Maverick MF and Valravn I was able to do tons. Wasn't super busy at all. Anyway, that's rough, any chance they will open up more tickets? Maybe I should just save my $ and vaca days for WCB -
Where Are You Going in 2018?
JJLehto replied to ytterbiumanalyst's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Cedar Point almost certain. If so, Kennywood (1st time) and probably Waldameer (again) Probably Busch Gardens Tampa and the Fun Spots. Really depends if the GF takes any business trips to Orlando/Tampa I sometimes go along and have said next time I'll duck away to one of the parks. Hopefully Magic Mountain and Knotts Berry on the WCB, I already have a long ago planned trip that can't be moved in early Sept. Sadly if WCB falls during then I'll miss it, but if not I am 100% going this year, which would be the first time in 5 years :O Taking a trip up to Boston this year and I would love to hit up SF:NE, depends on time constraints as its not set in stone. So anywhere from 2-9 parks -

I missed meeting anyone last year because my hotel was 40 minutes away, I ended up rolling in the gate literally a minute as it was opening and I ran on in. But I do always like meeting people, hopefully this year will be different. So whats all this about ERT worries? Is there any validity or are people being usual internet cantankerous types? Last year I didnt get fast pass, still did everything I wanted like 2-3 times, and I even took a 4 hour break from the park. -

if you add them to your Club TPR membership, then they can get tickets. (my Membership includes my Spouse, for example, so he has a club TPR card too). I'm trying to recall, but I *think* they checked membership cards at the main gate before allowing us in? That is what I was wondering, can I bring just guests, or did they need to be added to my membership. Thanks for the info! Very true Elissa! My membership has just been re upped First thing I did with my latest paycheck! I will be adding those 2 to my membership now so they can go. Thanks again yall. Edit: He is actually a growing coaster fan, was scared to death to try em until his GF made him, and turned out he loves it. I will try my best to just pester him into getting a club TPR account And uh thank you for the very big picture.... to the shock of some here I can indeed read, but I also can remember, and I remember in the past people discussing bringing guests. So I asked, since I didn't see any info about it, (nor did that handy dandy picture provide any more) -

Sorry for the dumb question, but my brother and gf were salivating when I told them what Coastermania is like, we can bring guests correct? Also having gone to Coastermania last year, can confirm it was great. There were more people than I expected BUT it was certainly not crowded. I was able to have a mega successful day thanks to Coastermania. Just needed some (minor) day planning, but it was wonderful. I cant vouch for previous years but the ERT was great, it was the coasters you'd want/expect and I was able to do em all to my satisfaction -

Ah I understand, figured it was built around Coastermania. I did that exact same thing, it's indeed a GREAT way to fill out a Coastermania trip. -

Waldameer Discussion Thread

Seems the second is a Saturday? Any way you can do a Friday? I only ask because I did Waldameer on a Friday as part of my CP trip and the park was utterly empty. I got there a little after opening and I was literally one of a few cars. There were a handful of people. Buses came in later, but by then I was able to do everything. I went just to get to OH early but if I stayed could've done everything tons of times. It was a fun lil park. I'm skipping it this CP trip for Kennywood but you'll enjoy it -
Can't sadly, have the time but not the money, and though I will probably have the money in a few months wont have the time...the classic dilemma. Though it would be one helluva great experience! Maybe next year. I know in the past you opened up a couple of the parks to others for a single day thing (I went on the Knoebels day of the East tour a few years ago) any idea if such a thing would happen again? Unrelated, any word on possible WCB again? Good luck and I hope indeed people don't blow the chance. After so many years of griping "TPR doesnt do public tours anymore!" now's a chance, so they better not ruin for themselves again

Yes! Very exciting. Kudos for doing this, it must be a massive effort. I cant check the beta out at the moment but I will later when I'm back home. Hope we can help get this up and running! -
Not very sure Universal knows what they're doing, but alas... This is my first time at Halloween Horror Nights. Is fast pass recommended? We want to do all the rides open a good number of times, the haunted houses are a lesser priority. We will likely not do this again so this is our only chance. Whadya think? We figured it'll be packed, maybe most will crowd the houses and not the rides but I've never been to this event so no idea

Well....confirms what many of us thought: This will be epic and possibly the best RMC to date I am also glad they kept all the structure interaction as well. That (the overall aesthetic) was pretty much the only good thing about Mean Streak by the end. -

Very sad. Always tragic when someone dies too soon, just 18 years old, and how awful at a place where you're going for fun.
