  1. ^Fun stuff! It'll be interesting to compare this to the real answers when the ride is announced.
  2. It's definitely not in new condition, but that doesn't seem like that much of a displacement. I've seen much more extreme
  3. Colossus and (to a lesser extent) Cyclone have a different build than most wood coasters. It will be interesting to see how RMC does it, especially on Colossus.
  4. Alan Shilke told me there would be "2 next year." Guess this is it I'm a little bummed to see this one go, but I'm sure RMC will make a monster outta it! It was a great ride when I last rode (2006). I fear the *snap* on the first drop may say goodbye. They will probably make it steeper, but steeper isn't always better; the snap is where it's at on this one! Bill Cobb did that intentionally on this (including the station drop, which had it's snap removed when the topper track was put in... which was probably OK in that case as the *snap* was immediately followed by the pull out which caused you to SLAM down hard into your seat) and Texas Cyclone. SFNE is going to have a new king of the hill!
  5. Yup. 6 if you count both sides. Capacity was over 4,000 per hour. In 1984 Six Flags took ownership of the park and the ride had a minor collision. They said no more 3 trains per side.
  6. The Kings Island attraction was MUCH less mysterious too...
  7. And just as important... no ratchet bars, no headrests, no "wings," no super-tight seats. And a smooth all-wood track Still one of my favorite rides, though. Such a big deal when that ride opened.
  8. ^^I got the story second hand (not for the GG guys myself), so you're story could be the correct one. ^Indeed! Speaking of PTCs going upside-down, has anyone been on Wonderland's Texas Tornado with the PTC train? They look very hybrid-ish.
  9. ^Not that it would happen, but Gravity Group did calculations and confirmed the PTC trains *could* do a corkscrew
  10. How about just lap bars? They do the job well:
  11. ^Yeah, I couldn't help but think what a GREAT ride it would be w/o those harnesses. Maybe they will take them off at some point. In every close up picture I see of the ride, people are bracing themselves in odd ways.
  12. ^Perhaps Matt was being sly by getting wrong (i.e. deliberately disregarding) the facts on Goliath.
  13. ^I would like to have a word with Maverick... and maybe a couple hours with an Allen Wrench to remove those awful neck jabbers
  14. ^Meh... Voyage is still over twice as long and 10x more rockin' than Goliath
  15. ^I would say yeah, CP has some fantastic rides. Just not the best of any category. I'm hoping they do eventually do something crazy and world-class with Mean Streak. The potential is there, big time.
  16. We might have to file this somewhere between "they don't care" and "they don't have to." Fact is (as much as I disagree with it) 99.99% of people who walk through the pearly Gatekeeper gates of Cedar Point really do think it is the best collection of roller coasters in the world. So, if they think they are the best, then the park is the best to all those people. That's a lot of people. We're the minority in this situation. I didn't go to Cedar Point for 10 years (2001-2011). I was just "over it." After that long break, it was fun to get back. It may be the "worlds largest collection of mediocre rides," but they're still fun. The operation is the best of any big thrill park I've ever been to (well, except we used to do over 1,200 pph on Blue Streak when it was still classic, but I digress.) You hardly ever have to worry about rides being open, how many trains are being used, the dispatch times, or general disorganization (like you do at other big corporate parks.) Even the parks we really criticize (like SFA for example) we still manage to have fun there. Even if it's just for 90 minutes while traveling between other parks
  17. They don't have grab bars b/c RMC wants people to get FREAKED OUT
  18. ^^I think I can see Paula in that picture. And she's laughing
  19. Part of the reason people don't like woodies is because they were at their local giant corporate park riding a huge but poorly maintained wood coaster. A properly maintained wood coaster draws riders, no problem. Look at Kennywood, Holiday World, Knoebels. When big parks started building HUGE woodies in the 80s (well, 1978 for Colossus), that's when the problems really started. Even the mid-sized Cedar Fair racing coasters have become headache machines with those heavy/frankensteined trains (ratchet bars, tight seats/seat dividers, headrests/hard backs).
  20. ^I was talking to them and asked "mind if I get a picture?"
  21. Had a great time today at the park (well, the Goliath area). It was my first RMC; crazy elements and extreme angles! I met (and got my celebrity photo with) both Fred Grub and Alan Shilke of RMC, great guys! This ride is gonna be a real scream machine for the park!
