Us coaster riders have probably experienced many-a-time the loved "stomach coming up" feeling at theme parks. The question is this: Which in your opinion gives a stronger tingling sensation - drops or launches? To prevent too many posts of "it depends", let me clarify this a little more... By drops I mean drops that are in the 45-90 degree range...and preferably over 100 feet tall... And by launches, I mean those that pull 1G or more (basically anything from Rock 'n Roller Coaster to Hypersonic) Compare it in coasters if you want to (i.e "IMO, the launch on Xcellerator gives far more feelings than the drop out of the Top Hat does")

If you have NoLimits simulator, you've probably "ridden" all of the pre-designed coasters. Tell us what your favorite one is to "ride". My favorite is either River Raid, United Spacelines, or Steel Comet, can't decide which of those three I like the best. I'd probably be terrified of those three rides if they existed in real-life, but..it sure would be cool if those were real roller coasters! River Raid would definitely replace Storm Runner as the best "not just a top-hat w/ optional bunny hop" Intamin Rocket Coaster...Steel Comet would put Millennium Force to shame, and United Spacelines would...well, you get the picture. Real-life Intensity Ratings
Superdasher replied to Superdasher's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
^ I have NL. But the editor for NL is SOOO hard to use you wouldn't believe, I've just given up on trying and used RCT3 for building recreations. I prefer NL for the "POV simulation", because the rides look so much better, there are more track options, and the pre-created coasters such as United-Spacelines and Monstrum Awakens are REALLY fun to ride. BTW, Hulk was my first coaster with inversions and it was AWESOME! The first time I rode, when I saw myself in the Hulk On-ride photo I was a little uneasy looking, but the second time I rode I was like, "YEAAAAAAHHH!!!" That figure you have sounds about right though...In case you were wondering, Dueling Dragons IS, IMO, more intense than Hulk. I like Dragons better because of the awesome theming and dueling, but Hulk gets top nods too! -
Here's another tip for those who like crashing coasters. Build a Reverse Freefall Coaster that has no vertical track, just the curve piece that goes from horizontal to vertical. Then launch it at its max speed (220+ mph). As you approach max speed the car will start to shake due to the sheer velocity. When you hit the curve, you'll be vertical in .1 seconds if not faster, and then it will look like you're going into space (complete with the shaking) before you start to flip over and over with the park WAY down below! The car will explode before you even start to come back down!

I've attempted to recreate several real-life roller coasters in RCT3, and I thought I'd share their Intensity Ratings with you. Note, though, that these are according to my best attempts at recreation, and they may or may not be entirely accurate for the real version. * = I've been on Batman The Ride: 8.12* Boomerang: 7.47* Deja Vu: 8.68 Dueling Dragons Fire: 7.91* Dueling Dragons Ice: 8.02* Goliath: 10.23* Hydra The Revenge: 6.82* Magnum XL-200: 6.48* Mr. Freeze: 10.01 Montu: 8.20* Nitro: 5.89* Python (BGT): 6.29* Raptor: 7.84* Superman The Escape: 7.97 Superman Ultimate Flight: 2.85 (?)* Talon: 7.19* Wild Mouse (Dorney Park): 4.26* X: 10.63 o_O Xcelerator: 9.53* X-Flight: 3.83 (???)* Tell me what you guys think and if you have any other recreations and their Intensity Ratings, you can also post them here.

That's funny. I think I remember watching an episode of The Simpsons where Bart did the same thing! The Simpsons were staying in a hotel or something, can't remember, and Bart pushed all of the buttons in the elvator (like 20 of them total), and got out. And then, when a woman walked in, the doors closed just as she said "HEY!" and then Bart did his now infamous laugh The trick to jumping on the elevator is to time it right. If you jump at just the right moment, the elevator will be going maximum speed when you jump but will immediately after slow down, and you'll go up higher and float for a second or so.

Not making the basketball team. I can't believe the coaches took a bunch of smaller 9th and 10th graders over a tall person like me!
-
No, I'd probably get bored before the end of the first day and want to ride something else. Have you ever gotten a speeding ticket?

Sometimes when I stay at a hotel on a theme park trip or whatever, me and my Dad will spend 15 minutes or so jumping on the elevators. It's REALLY fun. See, it's like this. You are on the 4th floor. You go to the 10th. When the light hits 9, you jump, and...airtime! It's really amazing. A couple of words of warning if you want to try it yourself, though. 1. The first time I tried this, which was in a hotel in Orlando after a long day of Dueling Dragons/Incredible Hulk at IOA, I attempted to do it the other way, and hit the floor. THAT was funny. 2. Don't try this on Disney's Tower of Terror! Let me know if anyone else has done this before (Maybe you, Robb?).

Yeah, I like to crash roller coasters too in RCT3. In fact I've always liked to crash rides in the RCT games. I'd call such rides designed to crash things like "Death Coaster", "This Coaster will kill you", "Goodbye", etc. In RCT3, I like to build a Strata Coaster with a fishhook-shaped hill too small for the launch speed. Even if the hill is over 400 feet tall, it will still clear it on the strongest launch speed (which I believe is something like 123mph). Then, as soon as the ride hits vertical on the downward part of the fishhook, the cars break off, separate, and explode after a few bounces on the ground! It's a really great view from the Coaster Cam too It's also funny to get guests on a ride designed to crash and view their thoughts as the ride is crashing. Unfortunately in RCT3 the guests do not die, like they did in previous RCT games whenever a ride crashed (I think it still decreases your Park Rating and deters guests from riding that ride though). But in Sandbox Mode, that really doesn't matter!

Funny POV Video
Superdasher replied to Superdasher's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah...the ride looks like its in horrible condition, with flaking paint work in places of the track, and after hearing coasterinsane's screams of "OW!!!!" and "It hurts!" in an on-ride video of it, it's pretty obvious that this thing is not going to show up as a component of many Top Ten lists. -

This video really made me laugh. It's a POV Video of Typhoon at Santa's Village. I've never actually ridden this, but it sounds from the video that it's a headbanger - just listen to the guy who's recording the video! http://www.weeweeslap.net/coaster_videos/santas_Village/Typhoon_WWS.zip Important note: I think you have to sign up before you can view the video. It's worth it - they don't ask for much information. This site also has some rare POVs and park videos, by the way, so it might be worth checking out if you're looking for videos. Usually if I get sick on a ride, it's on a spinning flat ride (like La Revolution at Knott's), not a roller coaster. The most an inverting coaster has done to me is make me slightly nauseous for just a short amount of time afterwards. Depending on how nauseous I feel, I may or may not ride again, it really depends. Usually I'll ride at least one more time, even if it's not in the same visit. But one ride that made me really sick somehow was Insanity at Stratosphere Tower. I probably won't be paying $8 to get on that thing again. I prefer X-Scream. Super "Spinning is more nauseating than inverting" Dasher

Whenever I film a video of a theme park, I always use only off-ride footage. I've tried asking staff if I could shoot a POV and they've always said no. My Dad has recorded some POV Videos with his cell phone camera, but I myself feel it's too risky to try and sneak a camera on board, especially when you can get caught off-guard by things like on-ride photo cameras. I mean, don't you think that staff would get mad if someone suddenly showed up on the ride photo display holding a camera out in the open? It takes a lot of skill to record a good POV anyway. For me it's any ride with a 90 degree drop, such as a free fall (or a B&M Dive Machine/vertical Intamin Rocket if we're talking roller coasters). Out of all the coasters I've ridden, I was definitely the most nervous on Xcelerator. When the 0-82mph in 2.3 seconds launch hit me, I was like, :o  . And then the vertical 200 foot drop out of the Top Hat...I was shaking from head to toe for like half an hour after riding Xcelerator. TTD or Kingda Ka would be out of the question for me...for now, at least. Super "Hope that's not too humiliating" Dasher
