Dang! I KNEW this thread had been posted before! I used Search to try to find if this thread was already posted, as I was afraid it had. Oddly enough, it didn't show up when I typed in "are you an ACEer" or something like that in the Search. So I posted another poll with the exact same question. Result: My first locked topic. Super "Guess I should be more careful about using Search from now on, huh?" Dasher

I'm curious, about what percentage of the forum users here are ACEers? Probably a surprisngly high percentage... I'm not an ACEer myself. I mean, I'm American and I'm a coaster enthusiast, but I don't have an official ACEer card to use for ERT and other such goodies. I'm seriously thinking about joining ACE and becoming one, though...the coaster magazines and stuff sound cool. Not to mention the prospect of seeing my girlfriend's jealous face when I whip out my new ACEer card...*forgets that he's lacking in girlfriends*...ohhh... http://www.aceonline.org/

The Internatioal Dateline. How many dollars are there in a tree? -
I don't know about you guys, but I like to tell stories of endurance to my collegues. And so, I created this thread about sicknesses. Here are the illnesses I've gotten myself: -Jaundice a couple days after birth, had to be put under UV light as it was fairly serious Mom said. -Roseola when I was 2. -Hypothermia when I was 6. -Chicken pox when I was 8. -Scarlet fever when I was 9 (I was luckier than Helen Keller, thank god). -Head lice when I was 11 (Got it from a baseball helmet I believe, had to use a special shampoo to get rid of them ). And just like everyone, at various ages I've gotten the typical common stuff: colds, flus, food poisoning, etc. My illness rate, BTW, has decreased significantly in recent years. Other than those listed above I've never really gotten anything particularly dangerous that's worth bragging about (I think the highest fever I've ever gotten was something like 104), but maybe some of the other people here have. Post 'em here!

Funniest thing I've seen all day! Now I bet all the people on the UK Trip will scream "I'LL HAVE A BIG MAC WITH FRIES!!!!" at the top of Stealth...just to be funny. How did you get the pictures in the middle of the track? Did they actually let you climb all over the launch track to get those "catch car" shots and stuff? If so, they're definitely risk-takers...

Best B&M Standup
Superdasher replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've ridden three myself: -Riddler's Revenge -Mantis -Vortex at PGA Riddler's Revenge is my favorite by a long shot. I like the theming, the Dive Loops/Incline Loop, and the green track! Super "It's also the biggest and fastest of the ones I've ridden" Dasher -
You're just TOO BIG to ride!!!
Superdasher replied to SlimCoasterRider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I think you're absolutely right, PortugePunk. Take Elissa, for example. We all know how she eats McDonalds and almost nothing else, but I'd be surprised if she weighs more than about 140 lbs! Personally, I think it's more a question of metabolism and fitness, hence why I voted for the middle option - those who eat fatty foods but excersise a lot are obviously going to have more problems fitting on a ride than those who snack all day while watching TV and not getting any excercise! I have to admit that I'm a "full fledged sugar enthusiast". But... For me, the main concern when I ride a coaster is maximum height restrictions (if there are any). I weigh about 165 myself, but almost all of it is bone and muscle. I'm also VERY tall for my age (over 6 feet), and my main concern on a few rides is whether I'll be too TALL to ride, not too fat. Poll: Favorite Inversion?
Superdasher replied to timetrial3141592's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My favorite Inversion is the Cobra Roll. It has a nice cool name, and appears on a lot of B&Ms. Second is the Dive Loop, just because I like the name and it's fun. What does everyone like about Zero-G-Rolls? -
Which is worse?
Superdasher replied to Superdasher's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^By Boomerangs, I mean the standard Vekoma Boomerang on track that is found at many parks, not special versions like Deja Vu. -
Q: What did George Washington say to his soldiers on March 3rd? A: Tomorrow we shall march forth! (Prepares for an onslaught of tomatoes and cans) Anyone visiting any theme parks tomorrow? If so, I guess that could be considered "marching forth".
-
Both of them are made by Vekoma, and both are cloned. Both equal credits, but at the price of bashing renowned. Which of these two types of Vekomas do you dislike more? Personally, I'd say SLCs are a little worse, particularly the ones named "Mind Eraser" in the northeast. Boomerangs are more common too, and that means more credits for me!

Probably at least once in my life, I prefer bass though. Would you burn down your least favorite wooden coaster if you knew the park wouldn't get mad at you for doing it?

Sometimes after a theme park visit, I can still feel the motion of rides when my body is stationary. For example, even though you're lying or sitting still, your bed or chair can sometimes feel like Riddler's Revenge or Goliath. It should be noted that I used to feel this a lot when I first started riding coasters, but now I don't really feel it anymore unless I ride 10 or more coasters in one visit (Cedar Point and SFMM are the main ones that I still feel). Certain B&M Inverts will occasionally do it. I think it must have something to do with getting used to coaster riding.

Which gives more feelings?
Superdasher replied to Superdasher's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here's a thought on this matter. Drops tend to give you an increasing feeling as you fall faster and faster. The reverse is true with launches (the most powerful feelings in lanches usually occur right when the launch starts, then slowly die away with the G-force). Also, usually with me, the factor of how much feeling I get out of a drop sometimes seems to be not the height of the drop, but the speed at which you descend it. In fact, there are many drops that are over 100ft tall that don't give me any feelings at all, but smaller bunny hills on woodies can still give me a quick stab. -
http://www.ultimateshowdown.org/ Apparently this song was made by a signer I've never heard of: Lemon Demon. The animation was done to the words of the song. But, it has some of the BEST rhyming and flow I've ever heard in a rap song, turn on the subtitles and see for yourself! I warn you though: A couple parts of the animation might be too much for you if you don't have a high tolerence for this material. Let me know your feedback as always.

"Best. Coaster. Ever." Round 1
Superdasher replied to Superdasher's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's right. And because of that, I'm going the democratic way...that is, see which one the MAJORITY thinks is better...of the people here. That first matchup was a no-brainer for me. How about these two? Which of these two do you guys like better? #5 Nemesis Inferno #4 Montu -
All right everyone. After hearing tens, even hundreds, of roller coasters get called "the best coaster ever", I've decided to create a little tournament to settle this matter. I've chosen 64 coasters, many of which I have heard called "The best ever" at least once on the web, and ranked them 1 to 8 in each division according to manufacturer based on the reviews and how I've reacted to them. Note, however, that I have not ridden them all, so please do not take the seeding personally if a coaster you like a lot has a low seed number. Each day, vote for the coaster you think is better, out of the two given. For example, the first day it is run, you would vote for whether you think Dueling Dragons or Air is a better ride. Do not post a vote for anything other than the one that I tell you to. Try to post not only your choice, but also reasons for why you think it is a better ride. At the end of each day, the coaster with more posts moves to the next round, while the one with less will get eliminated. In case you are not sure how a coaster looks, I will post pictures of each when it is time to vote. At the end of each round, I will create a new topic to make navigation a little easier, and to remind you how the pairings stand. The last coaster remaining is, according to TPR Forum Members, the "Best. Coaster. Ever." Here are the tournament pairings: B&M Division A #1 Dueling Dragons VS #8 Air #4 Montu VS #5 Nemesis Inferno #3 Superman Krypton Coaster VS #6 Hydra The Revenge #2 Incredible Hulk VS #7 Silver Star B&M Division B #1 Nemesis VS #8 Batman: The Dark Knight #4 Raptor VS #5 Superman Ultimate Flight #3 Riddler’s Revenge VS #6 Talon #2 Nitro VS #7 Silver Bullet Intamin Division A #1 Expedition GeForce VS #8 La Vibora #4 Wicked Twister VS #5 Colossus #3 Xcellerator VS #6 Shockwave #2 Kingda Ka VS #7 Bobbaan Intamin Division B #1 Superman Ride of Steel VS #8 Disaster Transport #4 Volcano-The Blast Coaster VS #5 Tornado #3 Storm Runner VS #6 Rita: Queen of Speed #2 Millennium Force VS #7 California Screamin’ Woodie Division #1 Balder VS #8 Judge Roy Scream #4 Raven VS #5 Ghostrider #3 Tonnerre de Zeus VS #6 Gwazi #2 Thunderhead VS #7 Mean Streak Arrow Division #1 X VS #8 Python #4 Vortex VS #5 Top Gun #3 Viper VS #6 Demon #2 Magnum XL-200 VS #7 Vampire Vekoma Division #1 Jubilee Odyssey VS #8 Goudurix #4 Invertigo VS #5 Boomerang #3 Rock ‘n Roller Coaster VS #6 Mind Eraser #2 Deja Vu VS #7 Superwirbel Misc. Division #1 Hypersonic XLC VS #8 Scorpion #4 Flight of Fear VS #5 Mindbender #3 Montezooma’s Revenge VS #6 Ultra Twister #2 Goliath VS #7 Space Mountain So today, decide on Dueling Dragons at IOA or Air at Alton Towers. Which one is better, out of those two? #8 Air at Alton Towers #1 Dueling Dragons at Islands of Adventure

Weird dream about SFMM
Superdasher replied to BarryH's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That would be pretty funny if the first part of that happened in real life (unless I was on the ride, in which case it'd be kind of annoying). I had a similar dream to that once, where me and my Dad were in line for Dueling Dragons. We were in the castle part with the skulls where normally scary music and warnings are played, when suddenly, the music stopped, and Peanut Butter Jelly Time began to play over the speakers! We were like "WTF?!", but since the line is normally empty we kept walking. We got to the Choose Thy Fate sign and the song was still playing. We went down to the Fire station, and the whole station was like a dance club, with lights flashing everywhere! Brian from Family Guy was in his banana suit dancing in front of the fire dragon train, and two other ride ops were dancing to the song too! The people on the ride seemed kind of annoyed, though, and were like, "Let us go already!" I woke up laughing my ass off...funny. -
Damn, I'm STILL a Coasternovice? Oh well, I only need 4 more to become a Coasterkid. I've GOTTA get 'em this spring... Random ACE-er: I bet you aren't even in triple digits for coaster credits yet! Superdasher: I only need to ride four more to break 100! ACEer: Ha! You have some catching up to do. *shows coaster list* As you can see, I've already ridden 243 coasters! Still think you've got what it takes to be a Coaster Enthusiast? Superdasher: *sigh*

Sometimes, particularly on rides with a fast part before the lift hill, the train will shake as it catches the lift hill. This seems to be mostly present on rides made by Arrow and Vekoma. It sounds like "clickclickclickclick-CHUNK! *lift hill sounds*" (At "CHUNK" the whole train shakes) If anyone still does not know what I mean by this, Robb's video of the Corkscrew at Nagashima Spaland shows it. Right when the train shakes, Robb says, "Oh yeah! That's the stuff Arrow's made of!" Personally, I hate it when rides do that, as it makes me bang my head... Does anyone know what causes this? I know that it has to do with the train catching and engaging the lift hill...but why is it more noticeable on steel coasters, particularly Arrow? Does it just have to do with bad lift hill design reflected in the manufacturer? Or age, perhaps?
