You Might Be A Coaster Nerd If....
livinandrockin replied to PCW_Nut's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
-If you have made a k'nex coaster without using tubing (just lots of yellow connectors ) -If your favortie 'game' to play with your wife is where she looks up random POVs and you see how quickly you can identify them -If you describe certain coaster elements as 'sexy' (i'm looking at you, meudsa's vertical loop!) -
Weird Roller Coaster Dreams
livinandrockin replied to alpengeistdude321's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I relate a lot to not being able to ride them. A lot of times, it's because I'm with my parents and they are still getting ready back at the hotel. When we finally get to the park and get in line, I wake up every damn time. I suppose it dates back to my childhood in real life, as we would always get to parks later in the day cuz my freakin parents take forever to do anything. Also, every time I become lucid, my dreams go to crap and the rides disappear completely. So damn frustrating. I also know what you mean by the wrong coasters being in each park. I dream of going to Knott's a lot and it always has the same bizarre layout in my dreams with space mountain where perilous plunge was. And every time montezooma's revenge spikes somehow spin in place with the trains on them. This thread is very cathartic for me, because whenever I tell this ish to my wife, she thinks i'm going nuts... -

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
livinandrockin replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
First time on El Loco!! Nice break from the poker grind (which didn't go well) much better than steel hawg wife kept jokingly saying she would fall out on the dive loops lol -
worst b&m: also going with vortex west. just too stinkin short. still a great ride though. worst intamin: flashback! man what a joke the intamin space diver project was. everyone hated that pos... rough and repetitive. not to mention i had to go to sfmm like 30 times to get the credit cuz it was constantly sbno worst gci: gotta pile on the wildcat hate. i was shocked at how friggin rough it was...odd since lightning racer is so great...

Best B&M Coaster Type?
livinandrockin replied to I305's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
credits are also best to worst 1. inverted- (montu, alpengeist, afterburn, silver bullet, raptor, dragon challenge, great bear, flight deck, batman west, batman chicago, batman NJ) how can they not be number one?? so many different layouts, inversions, and forces. each one (other than the batman clones) feels like a whole new experience. vertical loop after the brake run? awseome! (hell, most of them dont even have mid course brake runs!) monstrous lift and inversions? no problem!, etc etc etc 2. flying- (tatsu, S:UF chicago, S:UF NJ) the supermans are ok (hated shockwave so GAm gets the edge), but tatsu blew my firckin mind. i kind of have a pipe dream of flying for real so this pick is biased...i could ride tatsu again and again 3. floorless- (medusa west, kraken, medusa east, scream) i love floorless coasters, so, so smooth. and i cant get enough of the zero g rolls. they are like an out of body experience... definitely want to try out medusa east as bizarro and see if it climbs thre ranks 4. dive- (sheikra) not enough data to make an informed opinion but i feel like these are pretty awesome coasters 5. hypers- (nitro, diamondback, apollos chariot, raging bull) love nitro, rest are so so. prefer the awesomenss of intamin hypers. but like most of you, i wish the clamshells were used on every coaster (cough cough im looking at you skyrush) 6. wing- (gatekeeper) again, not enough data but i dont see it being ranked lower than sit downs. majestic, fast, and smooth. i love the dive loop and keyhole inversion but a little on the boring side after that...and the noodles are a little painful for a big guy like me 7. sit downs- (kumba, hulk, wildfire) kumba was one of the first b&ms i ever rode so theres some nostalgia there. all three coasters have good layouts and are butter smooth 8. Stand ups- (riddlers revenge, mantis, vortex east, iron wolf, vortex west) gimmicky and somewhat painful. however, i really like riddlers, but the rest are way down on my list. -
Weird Roller Coaster Dreams

I'm so excited this is a thread!! I dream about roller coasters, and other rides, darn near every night. The wierd thing is, I never ever get to ride them! (save for an occasional log ride for some reason) Also, even though i have a great photographic memory and can remember track layouts like nobody's business when I am awake, every time I dream about them, they are completely screwed up and are usually in the wrong parks. (I'm pretty sure i was at cedar point again last night. the layout of ttd changes drastically every time, and wicked twister is always at the back of the park for some reason). Not only that, but the coaster cars constantly fly off the track and follow me in the air while I run away! THey never land on me, but it is terrifying just the same. The odd thing is, I love, love, love coasters in real life (260+ U.S. credits) and have no fear of them! Side note- i dream up some insane flats too (which also constantly fall apart, especially the enormous 200ft zipper-like and topspin-like flats). I love the "chaos deluxe" with its huge gondola and extensive light package or the "wings of fire" which is the bottom half of a ring of fire that spins! -
As a rider of 250 coasters (but not NTAG); a former coaster op at KBF; a mechanical engineer; a 6'2" 250lb fella who was recently denied ridership of my first coaster (wicked twister); and a reader of the past 40 pages of posts and articles i wanted to put forth my 2 cents: -i believe with a high degree of confidence that the restraints operated as designed and experienced no sort of failure -i believe that seat belts alone would not have prevented this tragedy. as others have stated, seat belts ensure that a minimum angle of closure of the restraint is met. according to y'all, NTAG's limit switches, which manifest as green lights, provide this same function -i believe that nothing can be designed with 100% certainty. again, as others have stated, this tragedy was most likely a freak accident, that is, the perfect storm of rider size and proportions, and the level of operational safety checks -i believe that at a minimum, operational procedures will be revamped such as being required to ensure contact with the thighs, or any other recommended measure to ensure rider safety. we may also see new restraints, new trains, or even, as a worst case scenario, a ride experience alteration, such as trim brakes (hope not as i don't have the credit yet) thanks for listening, and i do wish to extend heart-felt condolences to the victims

What is the best floorless?
livinandrockin replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Have ridden both Medusas, Kraken, and Scream. Kraken's theming makes it the best of the four; the second vertical loop is also fun and unique. SFDK is my home park so west medusa is probably my favorite; the sea serpent the forceful pacing of the flatspins are great too.
