Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
UrbanLegend replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There's actually one of those types of maintenance roads at my old Scout camp. Except it's permanently partially submerged and occasionally decides to wash away trucks... I absolutely cannot wait to see this start testing. EDIT: Whoops, I forgot that TPR really doesn't like the word J-e-e-p, even if I am referring to a particular kind of car -

Burning a meal to the point where it causes a house fire. What's worse than your childhood home being sold? -
Whitewater-Kyuss Every single song they made makes me want to go drive around in the Mojave Desert in a '74 Dodge Charger.

Most excellent! I feel the next week or so is going to shape up extremely nicely for Hershey! -

Could either of you tell if the trims were on/out? I wasn't sure in some shots, but in others it looks like the train definitely took the hammerhead a lot slower than in earlier tests. -
^I was going for artistic license with that exaggeration, but I guess it's irrelevant at this point.

How did you get your screen name?
UrbanLegend replied to waterviper's topic in Random, Random, Random
Urban is my last name. When I first started learning to play the trombone in elementary school, my music teacher thought I was exceptionally good and called me 'Urban Legend'. When the time came to choose a username, that's what came to mind for... some reason. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
UrbanLegend replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is inexcusable even by GP standards. I would assume that there's a general consensus for what a 'wooden roller coaster' is: Chain lift hill, PTC cars, a fairly spread-out layout, and no inversions. Flight of Fear has none of these elements. I would love to have heard the thought process that led them to conclude that a coaster that launches you from a standstill into 4 inversions and an incredibly twisted layout (all in a building not much bigger than a McDonald's PlayPlace) is made of wood. -

Everything is coming together quite nicely! Is it just me, or is entering and exiting on the same side rather uncommon? I'm guessing they'd let guests unload and file through the exit, then airgates would open to let the next guests in. Might that cut into capacity a little bit? Also, what are the far right stairs going to be used for? -
The "GP" of Theme Parks Facebook Thread!

On Hersheypark's March 6 Skyrush photo update: ...Um. Is this one of those deeply philosophical "sound of one hand clapping" sort of things? I may actually lose sleep over this one. Also: Can't tell if that's supposed to be an Incredibly Lame Pun or not. -
It's coaster-related, but I didn't know where else to put it. I've always thought that the height of a roller coaster is a bit of a stupid thing to boast about. Most of the time the height and the drop are close enough that it doesn't bother me too terribly. But with something like Wild Eagle, the disparity is great enough that whenever I hear someone making a big to-do about how it's 210 feet tall I always see them as uninformed. The drop height is a much more relevant statistic, but nobody ever seems to talk about it.

Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?
UrbanLegend replied to RtherBOnACoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
For the past few days it's been sunny, breezy, and in the high-60s/low-70s here in West Philadelphia (despite the troubling lack of Will Smith). Perfect theme park weather. But everything's still closed around here It's been an extremely mild winter overall. Great for construction, but simply awful for fans of definite seasonality (like myself). -

I think the reason that, erm, Dragster H2O (I can feel the brain cells dying as I type it) is so popular is because the average person's thought process is probably "DRAGSTER H2O WHOA IT HAS THE SAME WORD DRAGSTER LIKE THE BIG FAST ONE THAT GOES REAL FAST I LIKE WHEN IT GOES FAST OKAY MAKE IT THAT NAME" GP think with caps lock on, by the way. -
If Flashback were to get new trains, I'm guessing it would be the new-style Vekoma trains. I haven't been on Sidewinder at Hershey since the change (in two months I'll be breaking my 5-year embargo on Boomerangs), but I've heard that they're quite a hit. Has Premier ever supplied trains to non-Premier rides before (well, other than Golitah Vu)?
