Rides You Can't Ride?
bert425 replied to DoinItForTheFame's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm 47 and my Partner is 55. . and although there are coasters we prefer not to ride (Boomerangs), we don't skip them because we "can't ride" them. . and occasionally do get on them. So for COASTERS the answer is none. . we ride all of them, just some not as much as others. however, there are some spinning/flipping flats that we avoid and are simply unable to ride because the result is we're dizzy/sick. We're ok on Tilt-a-Whirls, Himalayas, Sooper Loops, Sizzlers, etc stuff of that nature (heck, we're even OK on Enterprises and Looping Starships). . . but keep us away from Top Spins, or Chaos type rides. will never ever get on that again. oh. . we also don't ride these: we've never actually tried one (and we love Frisbees). . .but just looking at it?. . we agreed this type of ride will make us ill. . so we've never been on one. -
The Tale of the Grow Walk ….Hunh? photo Report
bert425 replied to jenseib's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nice report, even if it's starting out rough! (I almost missed it, as the title didn't flag me right away it was Disney -- guess I still don't see "Grow Walk" as Disney LOL). We used Dollar for our rental car for our June trip across Pennsylvania. We were SUPER happy with them, and they even worked with us to let us return it with an almost full (not completely full) tank, since we got to the airport without passing any gas stations! We did note that (as typical) when you rent in one city and return in another, they really get you with charges. . but in our case, checking the cost resulted in us flipping our trip around -- to rent in Philly and return in Pittsburgh was going to be $900 for 10 days. to rent in Pittsburgh and return in Philly? $500 for 10 days. so yeah, we flipped our trip, started in Pittsburgh, and saved $400. and we absolutely will use Dollar next time! can't wait to read more -
Told you so, and why I'm pretty much done with the show again already this year. Mediocre singers are getting thru, while talented acts (such as the two male dancers, or Loop Rawlins) don't. and AGAIN the judges chose poorly, a child over seasoned adults -- and this is AFTER Howard made a point that they are looking for a million dollar act to headline in Vegas. not worth my time.

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
bert425 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have to agree that navigating is difficult in Hershey. I got so lost because i could see the rides i wanted to go in the distance but the path layout is awful and very confusing. I probably could have gone on more rides but kept backtracking because i was gling the wrong way. we used the best app in the world for that -- stopping and asking at a booth/shop/ride every time we wanted to go somewhere yeah. .the Hershey map was pretty much useless. -

"Bellagio", "Mirage", and "Cosmopolitan" (Wicked Spoon) http://www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/taste/restaurant-collection/wicked-spoon.aspx are the 3 best buffets in town. (ones that are good, but have been surpassed by the above 3: "M resort" "Rio" and "Golden Nugget" (tho if you catch Golden Nugget on Seafood buffet night (the weekend), the food is a great value for the buffet price) http://www.goldennugget.com/lasvegas/eat_buffet.asp Ones to avoid: MGM Grand (used to be fantastic, but TERRIBLE the last two times we were in town), Flamingo (edible, but only as a last resort), CircusCircus (Cafeteria or worse food), and Mandalay Bay -- way overpriced for the quality of the food. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
bert425 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
we were there in June, and that was not the case. everything operated until there was thunder, so we rode in downpours. . until we heard thunder -- then everything closed. so if this is the policy, it's not followed consistently. -
I could happily watch if AGT banned both salsa dance groups, and singers. they always take up spots in the semifinals, and there are other shows they should be on. as you note, truly unique acts -- that COULD support a Vegas show, don't even get a chance, since the young girls voting, always put thru the cute singers, and the older ladies who vote, always put thru the salsa dancers. (I can pretty much guarantee the male salsa duo next week won't make it thru - the folks who vote won't like seeing two men dance). hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so. yeah, the judges got it wrong. . cute kids grow up. they should have gone with the Jumprope

The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread
bert425 replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was shocked how much I hated Skyrush. I won't say Flying Turns was a "letdown" as I knew from reading stuff here (by Robb and others) that it was a family ride, rather than a "high thrill" ride. . but honestly, it wasn't super exciting -
for YEARS was Ghostrider at Knott's then we rode Wildcat at HersheyPark. (shiver) my back just screamed even typing the name. ..

Parks Coasters and Rides in Movies and TV
bert425 replied to spike's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just finally got around to watching this, after buying the DVD earlier this year. yep, that's exactly where it was. . they give it credit for filming on location (also having now seen "Mission Amusement" where they "fix up" the park, I'd recognize it NOW as Conneaut Lake). not only did they allow them to film there, but they didn't do a very good job "hiding" it (I would guess due to low budget). they use the ride names "as is", there's tons of "Conneaut Lake" signage in background shots, and even on some maintenance signs in the "management office" scenes. at least they filmed during an annual "Ghost Lake" event, so there were horror decorations around -- so it kinda looks like it COULD be a fright themed park. oh, not at all a good film -- many, many plot holes (the biggest being: if there's a big restaurant/bar on site (which is where some of the characters hide later in the film), why in the world would their after hours party be in a tiny mgmt office? And why would they need a character to BRING booze, when there's a bar on site?). and the film starts out in the haunt that they found in "Mission Amusement" that they then upgraded into the "Haunted Hostel" attraction on that show. So it was kinda fun recognizing that ovrall tho? the acting is terrible (almost across the board); the "advertised star", Doug Bradley, only shows up over an hour into an hour-20 film (for about 5 minutes). . and it's obvious his scenes were shot separately; and the "kills" are poorly done - I'm sure due to budget (one goth character mentions she sometimes dreams about getting ground up in the gears of a ride . .. does that happen to her? nope, cheap slit throat gag). the digitally rendered "killer breaks thru glass doors into gift shop" is the biggest laugh. Obviously Conneaut Lake isn't going to let them destroy a glass door. . but the way they did it in the shot? 1) the Door on the left is CLEARLY open (you can see the signage on the door to the left of the new, "digital" door thru the glass windows. 2) Ogres left arm keeps disappearing every time he moves it behind the door on the right (which is closed). .. yeah, his arm disappears when he steps behind a GLASS door. 3) when he breaks thru the glass, none of it hits the floor inside the gift shop. still tho? I'd recommend it still tho for Theme Park fans, because as noted, the park gave them free reign (apparently) to film wherever they wanted, and there is a lot of footage filmed on and around rides - in particular Little Dipper and Blue Streak. -

Great pics! and wow, Tivoli is beautiful at night! -
^^ thanks again. and yeah, I know what you mean. Austin is the Capital of Tx, but we never do any of the Capitol tours, or the Stevie Ray Vaughn Statue, or ACL tapings, Margaritas at the Oasis overlooking Lake Travis, Hippie Hollow (Texas' only official nude beach) ect. . unless we have out of town company. We rarely go to the Alamo or Riverwalk in San Antonio for the same reasons -- and that's just an hour drive

really good report. I'm enjoying reading about Hershey, since we were just there too
