Custom Coasters International in retrospect
AllenA07 replied to sirspud's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This thread reminds me how much I loved Ghostrider when it first opened. To this day I still rank Ghostrider circa 1998 as my #1 wooden coaster. -
you're forgetting the whole Bran storyline. . they saved that for next season, so that's still from the books. as is a TON more about Arya and her quest to be an assassin. I'm curious how much of the Bran story line they are going to cover. I could see the show glossing over a lot of that because it does get a little strange.

Finally the show is pretty much caught up, I've been afraid to talk about it in fear of giving book spoilers. If you haven't watched yet, spoilers below. I think the death at the end of the last episode was necessary and, as the writers have said, he is completely dead. The oath of the Nights Watch includes the line "I shall live and die at my post." I expect the death is going to be real and might last for a bit because it is necessary to end Jon's commitment to the watch. Not sure if the show will follow suit, but I think in the books Jon ends up wraging into Ghost.

Alton Towers Discussion Thread

I've made a tl;dr version of what you were saying, which is actually my thoughts as well on this incident. Again, not wanting to speculate and will be VERY interested to see what the actual report has to say, but I would be very surprised if this wasn't due to human error running the ride in maintenance/manual mode by a technician that didn't realize a train had valleyed and over-rode the computers safety systems. It's very sad that this is my initial speculations and part of the reason why I put more trust in computers than I do in humans. I would be shocked if this isn't a situation where there is human error. Biggest surprise to me is that even in maintenance mode there wouldn't be some kind of a "hey buddy, you're being stupid" alarm that would sound. If I'm driving too fast in a parking lot and not paying attention and my car detects I'm about to rear end somebody it will slam the brakes for me. I would have guessed at a minimum the rides computer would have alerted the operator that there was a problem, or not allow the train to continue, even in maintenance mode. -

The scary part of this isn't that there was an accident, but it was an an accident that shouldn't have been possible. -
Yeah it's there, it's now Willoughby's Resurrected. The building is actually quite small though, too small for a decent sized dark ride. I'm not actually saying in the same building, I'm just looking at the potential location. I've dared to dream for the last 19 years that SFMM would expand their horizons and add something other then a coaster to the park. No real reason to stop now.

I'm going with two for vastly different reasons. Top Gun at CGA gets my first pick. Ride is unbelievably intense. While I haven't been on every single B&M invert out there, going on recent reputation, I'm guessing that it may well be the most intense B&M out there. Other one is Silver Bullet at KBF. As far as a great coaster for enthusiasts, I'm going to say probably not. However Knott's basically has one of the more impressive looking family coasters in existence. You could stick you 80 year old grand mother on the ride and she would be fine.

Big thrills for a low price!

Not sure that 13 million is that cheap of a deal. If I recall that's about the price of a Batman: The Ride. My understanding that RMC conversions aren't that bad, though you also need to consider the cost of the original ride in that figure. -
When will Cedar Fair finally partner with RMC?

I would love to see Ghostrider get some love. That coaster was on nearly everyone's top ten list when it opened. I still consider it the best wooden coaster I've ever been on (circa 1999). It's a shame how much that coaster has degraded over the years. -
It's really amazing to me how huge of a splash RMC is making in the industry. I really wouldn't be shocked to see all of their rides place in the top 10 of lists of people who have been on them. I've been on two (NTAG and IRAT) and both are stunningly good coasters, I figure I'll eventually pick up Twisted Colossus as well as my third RMC coaster. The last time I can recall a company having this level of popularity among the enthusiast community was back in the mid to late 90's when B&M was coming into it's own.

Somehow I don't think this is the ride one would choose to describe an 'experience' over a 'gimmick'. It's two half-minute laps above a parking lot, strung together so Magic Mountain could claim that they had the longest hybrid in the world. Not opposed to the ride, mind you - just not convinced any park is going to consider this particular ride as some turning point where suddenly rider experience matters over marketable gimmick. It is a gimmick - it just happens that RMC pulled off a good ride in the process. Going on this, I think that means that basically means every ride is a gimmick of some kind.

R+L=J is almost accepted as being truth at this point, it's more obvious (though not confirmed) if you have read the books. My theory is that the North is going to end up becoming it's own thing again, and that ultimately the seven kingdoms do not end up as a unified thing anymore.

Nobody. The Seven Kingdoms break apart and the iron throne is not important anymore.
