  1. Never had a wooden coaster in Vegas (except the faux one at The Boardwalk), it was Lightning Bolt at MGM Grand Adventures Theme Park, an Intamin Jr. Coaster that was first built as an indoor coaster then moved outside when they closed half of the park to build the MGM Grand Conference Center and new pool complex. I have some cool stuff from MGM Grand Adventures that I will post in the future!
  2. So a neat little fact. Yes the High Roller at the Stratosphere is gone, but you can go and see the train, its sitting on top of the Hammargren Home. The home actually consists of 3 homes at the intersection of Sandhill and Flamingo, about 5 miles East of the Las Vegas Strip. The home is owned by Dr. Lonnie Hammargren, Lieutenant Governor of Nevada from 1995-1999. More information about the home at a later date, but it has a ton of memorabilia from Las Vegas' past. But the house is normally only open to visit on Nevada Day (End of October). If it's open this year, I will be sure to visit and take photos! The actual train from The High Roller
  3. This is terrible news, I am very wary about rides at carnivals, just something isn't right about a ride that is just sitting on wooden or concrete blocks on uneven ground. Just some of these rides look like they are falling apart.
  4. OMG John! You have photos of a butchered train where they used parts of other trains to make one complete, look at the back car! It's a different color!
  5. WOW Thanks for sharing! This is going to be a fun conversion to watch!
  6. Every Friday and Saturday night after dusk Adventuredome is holding Neon Nights, the park has a DJ and club lighting. Worth checking out!
  7. A neat fact is that this Turbo Drop was the prototype from Logan, Utah" Yup, still rotting away across from Mandalay Bay. Yes!! In Search of The Obelisk, an IMAX RideFilm that is now the Jabbawockeez Theatre, will definitely be doing a spot on that in the near future, as well as the old Nile River flume that was once inside of Luxor. Not yet, but I have a few more drawings to go, until 9/12/18!
  8. Yeah it was the shooting log flume, when the guns and targets worked, it was a great attraction! Great addition to what would really just be a leisurely log flume with one drop. It was still a fun ride! There was a period of time that Buffalo Bill’s was operating with weekends only operations, the entire property would shut down during the week. I hope they do something to turn it around. I plan on adding a lot of content about Vegas attractions that are no longer here, gone, some forgotten, but I haven’t forgotten!
  9. It was amazing until the recession and ownership changes. When Buffalo Bill's opened, there was even a railroad that visited all three hotels and wound inside and outside of Buffalo Bill's, but that was short lived. I remember going to Buffalo Bill's opening weekend and Desperado had a 2 hour wait and they were running all three trains. The property was super busy and extremely popular. Here is some history of Primm: Primm is name for Gary Primm, who was a good friend of Kirk Kerkorian (they developed New York New York together, Buffalo Bill's is a lot like New York New York) Whiskey Pete's was the first resort built in in 1977, The second casino Primadonna, opened in 1990 and the last casino, Buffalo Bill's opened in 1994. The Fashion Outlets Mall opened in 1998. In 1999 MGM Resorts (Then MGM Grand Inc.) acquired Primmadonna Resorts and changed the name to Primm Valley Resorts, and Primadonna was renamed Primm Valley Resort & Casino. During the time MGM owned the resorts, there was a shuttle bus to Primm and the shopping center, it helped people out there, everyone loved coupons!! In 2007, MGM Resorts sold Prim Valley Resorts to Herbst Gaming (Excluding the Primm Valley Golf Course, which MGM still owns today). Primadonna was renamed Terrible's Resort & Casino. In 2009 Herbst Gaming filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy (Attributing to the Recession). In 2010 Herbst Gaming emerged from Chapter 11 Bankruptcy with new owners. In 2011, Herbst Gaming was renamed Affinity Gaming, (Terrible's Resort & Casino was renamed back to Primm Valley Resort & Casino) who still owns Primm Valley Resorts today.
  10. Hi everyone! I know there was a lot of general Las Vegas Area Attractions discussions in the Adventuredome Discussion Thread so I figured i would make one here for general discussion. I decided to take a trip out to Primm to get lotto tickets, I called Buffalo Bill’s and they said Desperado was open, but upon arrival it was closed and never opened. First off, the casino was very empty and slot machines are few and far between. People were playing but it wasn’t very busy at all. So I decided to walk around the property a bit and it’s really sad to see this place falling apart. I remember it in its hay day when it was crazy busy and people were all around! Walking up to Desperado the sign said closed on the stairs and employees said it wouldn’t open today. The train was sitting in the station and I saw maintenance walking around. At this point I just gave up since the operating hours are only from 12pm to 5pm, they weren’t gonna open it up for just an hour. I walked outside to where Turbo Drop once stood and you can tell they just tore the ride out as parts were strung about. They gave no mercy lol. Then I walked over to the log flume, at the ticket booth, was a sign that was printed and said “Closed for Refurbishment”, but you can tell no work is being done on the ride. The control panel had a paper on it saying “DANGER this ride is deemed UNSAFE”. So no go there either. So the only attractions open were the Frog Hopper and MaxFlight coaster simulator. Oh, and the Monorail that isn’t a monorail. Disappointing trip, but if I win the lotto, it’ll be worth it! Old Turbo Drop Signage The abondoned looking Log Flume What’s left of Turbo Drop Closed. DANGER UNSAFE
  11. So I’m just going to throw my two cents here, I’ve been reading posts on CP’s social media accounts. It’s absolurely obnoxious the refund requests, extended hours requests, etc. coming from people. Power outages, like weather are out of the park’s control. Society now wants some sort of compensation if things don’t go exactly their way. I’m sorry I know it’s a damper on the day, but it wasn’t the whole day, just a couple hours of inconvenience, just like a weather delay.
  12. It’s extremely popular almost selling out every night.
  13. From https://www.ktnv.com/news/fright-dome-not-happening-at-circus-circus-in-2018 Fright Dome not happening at Circus Circus in 2018 A longtime Halloween tradition will not be happening at Circus Circus hotel-casino in 2018. Egan Productions, which owns Fright Dome, told 13 Action News that Circus Circus informed them that it will not be moving forward with the event this season. The statement continues: While we regret this bad news, we are grateful to the people of Las Vegas for supporting Fright Dome over the past fifteen years. We look forward to many successful Halloween events in the future. No other details have been released.
  14. Here’s the area that used to be the bottom part of the reservoir of Rim Runner, it’s a lot of space!
  15. Happy 25th Anniversary Adventuredome! “Grand Slam Canyon”!!!
  16. Hey everyone, I have some business travel coming up and I may have a chance to make a quick trip to the park a couple of days. I may only have a few hours each day, for two days. I will be there towards the middle/end of September and I know the park will be on weekend only operations. Any pointers for me and what I should hit for a first time visitor? Thank you!!
  17. No, still a rumor. The only thing I can report is that the old part of the trough that led to the lift hill (the deepest part of the reservoir) is now party/banquet space. All that is left of the Rim Runner now is the lift, storage and maintenance area and the trough though to what used to be the drop. I still love the fact that Inverter and Rim Runner are still operating well and still look like brand new rides, they really take care of their attractions.
  18. All of Robb's advise is terrific, and for The Stratosphere, X-Scream and Insanity in particular, I have a couple of pointers. Follow all of Robb's advise, and if you are still having issues, cross your legs at the ankles, it gives you a bit more room for the restraints. Interactive Rides doesn't have too many of these seats and restraints out in the world, I can only think of X-Scream, Insanity and the one Tilt "Coaster" in the Philippines. The ride attendants at Stratosphere are not allowed to push down the restraint on you, you have to do it by yourself, but in my experience in operating the rides, crossing your legs at the ankle gives you about an extra inch and a half in closing the restraints.
  19. Hey everyone, Canyon Blaster is still down, but you can see that they’ve been working on the chain.
  20. If the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas can allow guests to be in line 800+ feet in the air prior to getting on the rides and simply allowing you to place your items in a bin, why can't a park on the ground!?!? I completely do not agree with the policy and I would not want to wait in line without my phone, sometimes our group goes and does something else if they don't want to ride the ride we are waiting on, they keep in touch with us to see where we are at in queue and it may allow them to ride multiple other rides in that timeframe. It's a method of communication, just let me place my items in a bin at the platform, I totally get not being allowed to take items on the ride, but don't tell me I can't queue in line with them.
  21. Wow that "Fantastic" coaster cars truly had "Headlights" on them!! Been a blast so far vicariously traveling with you all!
  22. Robb, totally love the mobile look and feel! Thank you! I think this will actually have me be more active on the forum instead of just reading! Thank you!!!
  23. So I have to ask... has the Yodobashi song gotten stuck in anyone's head yet?
